Oh goddamn you, Rakugo......Don't fucking break my heart like this!

I know Yakumo's death is coming, but goddamn man...right after he and Kona make up and FINALLY accepts her as an apprentice?

Biggest surprise: She and Yota are having a kid! I was seriously 'YAY!'

Nonononononononono. Don't you fucking dare. This was yet another masterpiece episode, and just as I was thinking something about that scene, and the cherry blossoms, was beautiful to the point of being unnerving, that goddamn ending. No redeye warning this time either.

I need Yakumo to hold on a bit longer with everything that's happening, but the finality of Sukeroku's words this time just...

Despite the ending, this was a really happy episode. It was full of feels, and was really emotional. Konatsu's pregnant and Yotarou is happy. I'm happy for them.

I guess this episode confirmed that Shin took the knife in place of Kiku. And this episode confirms that Kiku was willing to go through a double-suicide with Miyokichi. He has no reason to lie to Konatsu now, and I am very happy that they both had a heart-to-heart.

Kiku better not die yet! He still needs to teach Konatsu, and even Yota was trying to get the writer guy to compose stories to be told by women!

This anime needs to stop trolling us making us think he's dying at the end of every episode, I'm hoping they're trolling us again cause I'm not ready yet to see Yakumo leave :(

Everything about this episode was just perfect and I wanted to hug them both so much when I heard Konatsu say she was pregnant, it was such a heartwarming moment. Yota was soooo happy, it was adorable. I wonder when he's gonna stop calling her sis though lol.

Yeah I was pretty much inwardly squealing with happiness when Konatsu said she was pregnant with Yota's child lmao. To me , this series is doing a lovely job with mood shifts, because I cycle through the motions with these characters. I went from having this adorable feeling to bittersweet and gentle to being filled with dread everytime Yakumo closes his eyes. Strong ep, and probably my fav one so far.

I was smiling and giggling for like the entire episode except in the beginning when we saw the theater was burned.. It looks like would be a good ending.. and suddenly at last scene ... Oh God please, don't let the old man die the moment he stop thinking to die ...

THE FUCKING CANDLE ON THE OP IS BEING LIT YET HE WAS DYING?!

The sceneries when Yota doing his rakugo on the radio and Yakumo's smile to let Shin-chan throwing more flowers is just SO perfect. I may be biased towards this show but it was for a solid reason. Nothing in this year could top this anime for me.

The scene with Yakumo and Konatsu was phenomenal. That's been a long time coming. Akirai Ishida and Kobayashi Yuu deserve all the seiyuu awards this year.

No good deed goes unpunished...

Just as future starts looking brighter, disaster strikes. Or at least something akin to it. After all, the exact nature of that final encounter remains unknown, despite the obvious implications.

On another note, the artistic side of this week's episode was particularly enticing.

If I didn't know about the fact that this season is 12 episodes, and if you take out that last part of the episode, I'd legitimately think this was the finale. However, it took an unexpected turn with Bon going to the Land of the Dead. I mean, I had a feeling for most of the season that he would eventually die, but for it to happen in THIS episode of all episodes, after everything seemed to be going well with such a lighthearted atmosphere, really came out of nowhere.

Next Friday, come faster please.

@Chumara you're referring to Shinnosuke right? Konatsu had him with the mafia boss according to the official wiki for this series. That's why she specified to Yotaro that the child she's currently pregnant with is his.

Why do you keep on trying to kill Yakumo T_T please tell me he's not dead!

She had a kid but nobody knew who was the father then, Yotaro adopted him. It was revealed later that the father was the Yakuza boss.

Yeah but Konatsu just know the first story. So it's kinda of weird to me, I don't like how they wrote that part of the story. Bon was bringing Shin and Konatsu back with him, so he certainly had not planned to die that day, he didn't even choose Miyokichi over Rakugo years before. In the first story, Bon doesn't look decided to jump with her either, when she pushed him he told her "wait" and the rest looks like an accident. In the second story we don't know what happened, was that knife really for Bon? Seems like a violent way to kill him. I don't know, that whole story with Miyokichi didn't work for me.

And they were reunited... finally. That part between Konatsu and Yakumo was very emotional, maybe the best episode of this season.

To end at peak of happiness rather than at bottom of despair.."

With two more episodes left I wonder what's more to tell. Cause this felt like an ending if you ask me.
But there will timeskip again, probably, to let their child grow a bit.

Then, everything comes to closure when Shouwa ends. The end of one era, the season of beginnings.

By far, this was the best episode so far. To be honest, I thought this episode would be boring, but it actually gave us closure on the daughter's negative feelings for Yakumo. I liked that this rakugo story on the radio had a lot of imagery behind it and that cherry blossom tree symbolism leading to the ending. Now that is good writing, my friends. This show has a lot of foreshadowing, which I like.

This show makes me the happiest this season.
Yotaro is ever endearing when he is happy with Konatsu. Best couple of Winter 2017.
Konatsu and Yakumo finally made up. This is the first time in ages where Yakumo is geniually happy and that makes me happy..
Shin's role in the story seems to be being Yakumo's reason to continue. Glad to see he has the making of a great preformer.
Konatsu might finally do rakugo professionally. Her being under Yakumo's wing and Yotaro wanting new women works, this is her time.

This episode was just swell ... wait he died now of all times. That was a nice way to go but he needs to stay a little longer. He never named the child yet. The theatre is still burnt down as well. You can't just blind us with happiness and expect us to forget that show. Rakugo is still filled with saddness.

Yes, Konatsu had that kid with the mafia boss and Yota voluntary become his stepdad. They've been together as"let's play family" all this time but it seems that behind the scenes and years, they've grown to actually love each other, got busy, and now produced a baby of their own. It's going to be a rakugo super baby.

Zoos said:

But not everything can be happiness because, if you remember correctly, this is Rakugo Shinjuu. Since when there is completely happiness in this anime? Exactly. And now it seems that the moment in which Yakumo embraced life through his family --in a higher place than rakugo itself since he allowed Konatsu to be his apprentice, and not anymore as a burden that keeps him anchored on earth by means of his responsibility towards them--, was the moment he was welcomed by his beloved Sukeroku in a place beyond this realm.

And this is how this anime broke my heart. Again.

literally my thoughts with that part and i was like wait something really bad is going to happen now isn't it, this is too happy. honestly seeing sukeroku always makes me bawl for 15 minutes but this time, i knew that was his spirit for real and really did not want to see him so soon. Not yet!!!!!! it's just so much release, forgiveness, and relief for yakumo, i'm so happy he will get to leave like this, he deserves it but i'm just really sad :(

Well, now that the new episode is out, I think Shin just implied that Miyokichi failed her suicide by tripping and falling with the knife plunged at him. It was pretty bad to even have Shin and Bon witness that suicide. Still, I think that an attempted double suicide between the two would be fitting rather than a failed suicide attempt, especially since it is in the title of the anime.

I think it was maybe a mix of the first death scene and the second, I don't know, I should watch it again. I was under the impression that she was maybe holding the knife telling him not to get close to her and/or that she would kill herself but also previously wanted to commit double suicide with Bon. It was not the first time she was doing it, so I don't know if she was really serious about it.
The title of the anime may also refers to her and Shin.
Or Bon and rakugo.

It's the part of the anime that is unclear to me. Really, I wonder if he really meant that he wanted to die with her and another took his place or if it's not her that took his place (or maybe he just wanted to die with rakugo but Shin took his place). Either way, they didn't convince me with the death plot. Although those scenes looked like rakugo stories...

If I were to describe this episode with a thousand words, I would fail miserably. So, I will just use one word for it. "Beautiful".

The news of Konatsu conceiving Yotaru's child was already too much. But then Kikuhiko finally seem to have finding the reason to find peace left me speechless. The moment when Konatsu cried on his chest was so beautiful I paused and cried like a five year old. T_T

There's no competition. Best anime of the season, and will probably take some beating this calendar year. With this episode it has truly become a masterpiece.

The theater owner was all like, "Ya'll get out of my burnt down theater and take your drama elsewhere!" LOL

I wasn't expecting Yotarou and Konatsu to be intimate for some reason. I thought their marriage was just on paper but I guess they actually had intimate moments, who would've thought. Now they're expecting a baby together. I like how Yotarou started to cry when he found out he's going to have his first biological baby. Yotarou is like Konatsu's loud little brother so it's hard to see him as her husband lol Maybe their relationship is more fleshed out in the manga than it is in the Anime.

So I'm guessing Yakumo really died :(
