Best episode for me! But not reading novel I didn't get they was sleeping with each other from the ending scene, more like they needed to be close to each other during sleep due to recent events - that really doesn't imply sex for me.

During this episode, Saki has breakdowns and Satoru comforts her. This lead to sex in the ending which they didn't really show, but more of an assumption. I do love the two together.. <3

Next episode is of them as adults! ^^ Excited!

Hah, they finally had sex. Naisu! I don't get why people care so much about it, though... It is just sex.

This episode was probably the most sad and depressing in the show, the letter from Maria, Saki's breakdowns, the weird nightmare with 'Shun' saying that Maria has to die and the snow... Now, can't wait to see gorgeous 26 years old Saki and Satoru <3

Well first I've got to say I'm impressed by this episode, this was totally different than normal, way better story development and a nice take on that letter and dream... although why did they only now added an op? It's a bit silly I do hope it's only for this one occasion because of the letter but well either way lets see what happens next!

One of the best episodes of the show for me, it was really sad, but beautifully handled.

I thought it was very well handled, it wasn't fanservice, but a normal development and reaction to their circumstances and the bond that existed between them since they were children.

About time, Saki and Satarou were meant to be together. But why did they have to take the scene out?? They should've showed the sex scene for at least a second with them kissing. It's like they have something against heterosexuality.

Nonetheless it was a great episode, 5/5

New ED is decent, not really the best song I heard from Hanazawa Kana. I think the previous ED was a lot better.
The old scenes about Maria and Saki were so cute :)

So...they had sex? They should have showed it a little better (just as much as the other pairings). And after reading what the others said about it (how it was a major part in the novel), I'm quite sad.
I expected them to end up together though, so I guess I'm happy about that at least.

I wonder what exactly does Maria do that causes so many deaths (as it was said in the first few episodes), and if Saki listened to the guy in her dream or not (not covering for Maria).

BAM, 12 years later... Seems a bit too much, but whatever. I wonder if they'll actually tell us what happened in those years and not just like (well I works as a ... now)

Btw, the scene before them having sex was very well done. It was truly sad when Saki suddenly started crying and when she fell 'silent' (I don't know how to say it).

Nah they just decided to take off their clothes...
Bad sarcasm aside heh, it's pretty obvious(at least too me) that they had sex.
You can even see some sweat on Saki's face.

But yeah great episode nonetheless, manly tears were shed when Saki was reading Maria's letter.

I think alot of the people here forgot thats ex in this society wasnt necessarily a sign of romantic interest or love. Though that doesnt make saki and satoru any less ship worthy, though seeing how this series seems to be going i may be getting my hopes to high that anyone will survive

Maria's letter was sad, I almost cried. I confess it shocks me that when Saki it's so worried about Maria and crying over her she is able to have sex with Satoru, it's hard to understand that, I know the whole stress relief thing, but still odd. I wonder why Maria needs to die, seems like I will not like the ending, I really like her =/

It seems like many approve of the Satoru x Saki relationship. I don't and seem to be in the minority with that.
The reason is, that to me Satoru always felt dangerous in a psychological way. The way he behaves most of the time makes him a candidate for being "disposed" of. I thought he only gets so much screen time because he will play an evil role later in the story.
And Saki didn't even like his behavior. For example when he killed all those queerats and wanted to go on she looked troubled.
I don't think that he would be a good choice for her and rather believe that their genetic manipulation (the thing with the bonobos) made her have sex with him.

I do agree that there are many hints for their strong and deep friendship but i also agree with those saying that the friendship/love-relationship with Maria seemed to be much deeper. After her being in love with the kind Shun i don't understand how she could like the brutal/cruel Satoru on the same level.

Am i the only one vaguely annoyed by the fact that younger and younger people are having sex in anime? This isn't the first time I've seen it and it's getting more and more common. At least SSY had the whole Bonobo conditioning thing, most don't... i just find it odd and kind of disturbing.

GOODBYE MAMORU, YOU WON'T BE MISSED YOU USELESS TRAP MOE-BLOB CRYBABY. Of course, being the little shit that he is, he took best girl with him. Her letter was quite poignant and brought up a great point about their village's humanity. While I understand their point of view, it really does feel like they only look at children as potential ticking bombs. Also, I don't understand why weak/powerless children are considered liabilities. It's never been said that they have any potential to become dangerous. In fact, I don't understand why skill matters at all, since they're not warring or anything.

edit: I see. The next episode offers some plausible explanations.

Maria's letter was sad ;_; I wish they showed more of Saki x Satoru's sex scene simply because apparently it's a very significant part of the book. Unless they've moved it to some other part of the anime it feels a bit strange to miss it out.

Nice shot by the plot and narrative, the first makes deep and fantastic series, the other translates and puts into practice the plot masterfully.
Unfortunately, so much excitement turns off when you switch to the technical and graphics, a real shame not to have the best designs and animations. So much beauty in the story, he deserved what other anime series have had the worst with regard to the implementation in the drawings! A real shame! D:
From what can be deduced from key visual art, and Yakomaru Kiroumaru are more and more present and decisive in the plot, also saw the promo now! * _ *

Mmm, what I'm the most curious about is that dream. How did she had that premonition? We know since the second episode that everything would have been ''better'' if Maria hadn't survived her childhood ill, but how was she able to know it years earlier.

Maria letter was really spot on their society problem. The fear of the child to the point of killing them as prevention is horrible, in fact, I can't find a word to describe how disgusting it is.

In the end, they never found Maria and Mamoru, which is understandable. She find confort in Satoru arm, but she can't get over what happened.

In the next episode, another huge timeskip and they are now 26. We can be pretty sure that the ''terrible thing'' Maria haven't already happened, so that mean that they survived quite a long time. Squealer is also back and he seem as deceitful as ever. Saki did said that he was only using them, as the narrator. It will probably end in a bloody rebellion. Maria will turn crazy because Mamoru death, maybe Saki will have to end her herself. This show is playing too much with my emotion :(

I've been thinking that maybe the Queerats are simply a product of the humans subconscious bestial nature.

They said earlier that the world and it's creatures have been warped because humans are trained to fear outside of the village and thus project all of their negative subconscious pk stuff outside.

My take on that in relation to the Queerats is that they're the humans subconscious sort of living out this primitive animalistic nature.

I love this show. I love that it creates an entire story of its own THEN draws parallel and gives a cluster fuck of metaphors relative to our world and our time, rather than focus on a specific metaphor and force a story around it.

This entire show is one big awesome pile of metaphors. Love the visuals too. Gonna rewatch this another time to remember the story, just to watch it a third time to focus fully on visuals. Too bad there's no dub.

Lol, that wasn't an OP. Why do people think that was an OP? Was it not just an insert song while Saki was remembering her times with Maria?

Anyway, good episode. What really got to me was the part where Saki said it was just her and Satoru at this point and she didn't want to lose him too. That boy in her dream, which I can only imagine is Shun, telling that Maria has to die was pretty interesting as well.

dunno about maria and mamoru staying far into the wilderness, with all the queerats activities they may get found anyway

..did squealer just said that the bones of queerats and humans are similar? wonder how far is that similarity

saki is right, one by one, all the members of group 1 are vanishing, quite depressing

..and the manifestaton in her dreams(shun?) is not helping, announcing the death of maria..

Wow that letter... I know its not typical and I've made remarks over how its awesome seeing the whole girl/girl kiss thing but with that aside, I really feel that Saki and Maria have this beautiful bond. I mean honestly, if the anime worked itself in a way that they could have been a couple, I would believe it with complete sincerity. The characters compliment each other almost perfectly and their understanding of one another is very unique.

The wording of the letter also pointed out (as I'm sure most people understand) that Maria does indeed love Saki deeply but has to ignore that bond for multiple reasons, one being that she has to save a friend in need.

There's so much more depth to this stuff than I could ever describe, hell, I bet some of it is over my head and I'll discover more upon a re-watch. But the way everything is playing out, although tragic, has such an inherent beauty to it.

Dayum. They had sex.

Timeskip next episode. I love how this show utilizes its narrator to tell you these horrible, ominous things to keep you on the edge. God damn, I'm about to fall off that edge. What dream Shun said corroborated with Saki's monologue about Maria's birth in episode 2. I cannot wait until the big revelation.
No they didn't. From my viewing experience they hugged, and snuggled a bit close to each other because they are in a very cold place. If that was supposed to illustrate a sex scene then that was pathetic. It was so subtle that I was questioning myself since it really only looked like they were under a blanket snuggling due to the cold temperature.

The level of discussion on MAL sometimes depresses me. So much written about the OP or the insinuation of sex between them, when there was so much going on in the chapter. Maria's letter was absolutely beautiful and clarified for me why she left with Mamoru. It also raises the absolutely vital point of questioning the society that the adults had created. What point is there in living in such an awful system based on distrust? I wonder if/when Maria shows up again what she will do to make her infamous.

There's also more than ever the insinuation that Squeeler and co are at one point going to present a huge challenge for their community. I wouldn't be surprised if we get an uprising soon.
