Like do you hand out high scores like candy, to anything with any sort of enjoyment or are you very strict with what you give high ratings too?

Generous and will rate anything highly (your vote)

Not every time though, especially with music videos. My mean score has dropped so much because of them.

I'm very selective with what I'm picking up so it's only natural that my average score is high. Does that make me generous or strict? I guess strict with selecting and generous with rating.

I am generous. Never rate works by 1 or 5, usually it is 6-9. Generally 7 or 8.

I'm quite generous since I only watch stuff I like, therefore rating it higher.

I'd say I'm fairly generous unless the anime is really bad

Well, I was generous in the past and would rate anything really high. But the more the time is passing , the more I'm becoming strict with my ratings.
I guess now I'm somewhat middle between generous & strict.
Hope to find that distinct person.

I think I'm pretty generous and may sometimes rate shows higher than they arguably deserve. It's mostly based on how much I enjoyed the show, really.

I think I'm of the more generous type. It's easy to make me happy, so when I rate something a 5 or 4, then it's really bad (for me).

I guess strict, since I give the score I think it deserves. What's the point of giving a false rating, it's not like you're a teacher who's grading a student who will get their feelings hurt or something.

Basically 7 and above means I enjoyed it. 6 it's okay but was boring sometimes, and 5 is meh (a lot of boring). Below 5 is just degrees of bad.
But I rarely "step on a mine" and watch something bad by accident, mostly it's the things I know I will like.

I mean, I'm generous by all accounts, but it's less about rating anything highly and more about not being overly critical as a whole.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

I am pretty generous, something's gotta be so extremely unwatchable that I'd give it lower than a 3 or 4. (Which I havent yet, Seikon no Qwaser II is my lowest rated ever)
Most of the time I have a reason why I decide to watch something

Also I finish everything I start to give it a fair chance.

I think MAL has an issue where 6 is seen as average rather than as above average/good. My average is a 5 so I'll just base my reviews off of that. It's why my mean score is lower than most others and why people are surprised when I give good shows a six.

I’d probably say quite generous. I never give anything below 4/10.

Admittedly, sometimes I get a bit self-conscious about giving low scores to popular anime, so I bump up the score by a point. I know it sounds really stupid ^^

Occasionally I am strict with some scores, especially if I’m not in a good mood. I try to counter this by not watching anime whenever I feel in a bad mood.

I find positivity generally makes me a happier person so I tend to be more generous. I usually round up and do my best not to nitpick things. I think I’m fairly reasonable for the most part and don’t believe too many of my ratings are overly inflated.

I also have a personal policy of not rating anything I have not finished, which I think you could also call generous.

I also tend to be a little more generous if a show already has a low rating to begin with but don't tell the mods because I think that's actually against the rules.

I was more towards the generous side when I first joined MAL, now I feel like I'm slowly going somewhere towards the middle (in between generous and strict). I've been adjusting scores lately, dropping a lot of things lower as I've realized they didn't deserve such high scores. It's hard for me to do that too much, though- because a lot of those shows were really meaningful to me when I first watched them- and I want to respect that somewhat.

But also, it still comes down to personal enjoyment and feeling, for me. So in that sense, I can be absurdly generous if a show's ending really resonates with me (like to the point of forgiving everything else that came before it), but I feel like I'm also really harsh when the opposite happens. I know going forward, though, I'm going to at least be a bit more strict with my scores (like in terms of 9s and 10s, and rating below 7, now that I know more solidly what those numbers mean to me).

We can always go somewhere again.

I would say I'm somewhat generous with ratings, but that's primarily because I rate shows based off of how much I personally enjoyed them, rather than trying to rate them based off of some objective measure.

Between the two probably more on the generous side. When I look back at my list it is much more common for me to see an anime that I mildly enjoyed or was neutral about and see I scored it higher than I feel I should have than for me see an anime I really enjoyed and think I scored it too low. Almost always if I adjust a score after the fact it is to lower it because I was too generous originally but most don't get adjusted.

I feel like I generally try to be fair but then I see people with mean scores >5 and so I have to conclude that I'm more on the generous side. Still, given that I basically won't watch stuff that I would rate 4 or below (for the most part) it's not actually so easy for me to conclude that I overate things.

Both, kind of? Looking at my malgraph it says I've given a 7 to 139 titles and I vividly remember not liking some of those shows at first or in other cases on the later episodes. Sometimes I'll even let some stuff slide to a 6 just because of their animation such as with God of Highschool's case. Don't really have that heavy of an opinion on most popular shows, I generally like "mainstream" anime and don't search for anime to hate-watch, I give shows a fair shot... well that is if they don't bore me to death, if so they stay in limbo for a while.

I kind of encompass the worst of both worlds, there are certain titles that I've given that I know probably deserve a higher score, but at the same time there are some scores that I've given that even at the time felt overly generous.

Just a few examples, I gave Cyberpunk: Edgerunners a 4, which is definitely too low. I definitely didn't enjoy it that much or think it was good, but I've rewatched the last episode a couple times and I do like the music. Basically everything I've given a 6 to I feel conflicted about, those animes could easily go lower or higher. But there are a couple 7s, like "A Whisker Away" and "Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop" that if I ever watched again I most likely would give a much lower score to.

I tended to be very generous and gave anime higher scores than they deserved. A year ago I changed my way of rating anime and now they represent how much fun I had. 1 means I had no fun at all und 10 means I enjoyed every moment. This seems very strict for giving beloved or good animated anime a rating of 1 but it just means I had no fun, it's nothing against the anime. When my friends see my ratings they are often shocked at certain anime. It always needs an explanation why the score is so low or so high.

and my 5-1 are mainly short animes with short eps or shorts or stuff I dropped

It depends on the genre maybe. For example, if a shonen anime gets overly hyped but the story is simple and doesn't have much to offer, I would really be strict. I want to watch anime that surprises me

i usually watch stuff that i'm sure i'll enjoy (except seasonals, i try new genre and types of animes every season) so they obviously end up getting rated higher, thus my high mean score. so you can say generous with ratings. i also tend to give relatively highscores to bad animes to which i got emotionally attached, example, tate no yuusha season 2, i loved the first season and was attached to the characters and stuff by season 2 was a disappointment, still i couldn't rate it low. gave it a 7. seemed fair.

Maybe I need to branch out and watch some garbage to make me appreciate the good stuff more.

Depends on what the title's like. If it makes an effort to be different in some way, I tend to be more generous with my ratings. Anything that feels lazy creatively or run-of-the-mill in my eyes, I'm a bit more strict with.

I could be very generous to the things that suit my taste but mostly very strict when it comes to rating things. By giving such contrast, it would be much easier to pin down which one that I truly like or dislike.
