What are some anime female leads you consider to be the most realistic to how real girls are? In my view there are at least 5 qualities that make a female character resemble a real person:

!) Distinctive hobbies and goals.
2) Realistic intelligence level, not too stupid, dense or too smart.
3) No over the top undeserved violence or whining, or too shy to talk to a guy they like.
4) They wear normal, everyday clothing and not extravagant outfits.
5) They have other close female or male friends, no missing parents.

Bonus points if they have a normal sense of humor and aren't repulsed by sexual topics.

Characters that sort fit in my opinion: Robin (excluding the 5th one), Yagami Kou, Mion Sonozaki, Chitanda, Aoyama Nanami, Chisa Kotegawa, etc.

To be fair, your average rom-com tsundere is a good portrayal of a real girl. I mean, when I try to help pure maidens and tip my fedora, they always get angry and some even try to assault me. Wtf, life is unfair.

If we wanted "realistic" females, we wouldn't be watching anime.
Anime as a whole is idealistic representations for characters, with a healthy dose of exaggerated characteristics.
You're never too old to watch anime.
If I ever stop watching anime, check my pulse I'm likely dead.

I wake up with coffee & anime, I go to sleep with coffee & anime.

Sorry if my sarcasm is bad, it's not my first language.

Adachi Mitsuru girls are usually quite realistic and down to earth as far as I can tell.
I'd also mention Oniisama e...

Most of the cast from Oniisama e, Nana and Shirobako (if you exclude Kunogi). As for individual characters, Saki from Genshiken and Anne from Akage no Anne are my favourite characters that I'd consider the most realistic.

The problems lies in the fact that no matter how you look at it, the best way to dig around the community is spread ecchi related thread.

Realistic in a sense is too good to mention in my waifus if you ask me. They're beyond that, they're not merely a pigment of human qualities. They stood at the top of us and we, as their slaves worship them.

Don't worry, resisting is one of the sign that you have the tsundere quality. And I must say that you're far better that most...

I consider most of the cast in Love Live School Idol Project to be pretty damn realistic enough, minus their squeaky voices.
Honoka is cheerful, passionate, but also lazy and forgetful. She dresses up girly, but not too fabulously. She clearly has parents (even though the dad barely shows up). Physically speaking, yes, she's short, despite being 16, but actual Japanese girls are pretty short with a lack of any bust.

Nana Komatsu because she is a naive slut that will fall in love with any guy that gives her attention and is attractive. These people exist in real life, so I will call her realistic for that character trait.

I thought realistic characters are a bit boring.

- I want my female characters to be super strong and can hold up on her own and is a leader (example: Erza)
- I want my female characters to be super smart like, sherlock holmes or eisntein level of smart (example: Victorique, Kurisu)
- I want my female characters to be a bit funny on the head or maybe batshit crazy is nice too (example: Yuno, Rena)
- Women in armor is my aesthetic (example: Erza, Saber)

I think a realistic anime female character would be Akiho Senomiya from Robotics Notes.

1. Likes robotics and want to built a life size robot.
2) She is smart in robotic engineering but average intelligence else where.
3) She is an optimistic girl but she is not too happy.
4) She wares normal clothing no fan service clothes.
5) Both of her parents are alive and she has close male and female friends.

The girl from NHK acts a lot like somebody I know, Misato from NGE. Has personal and relationship problems, personality is affected by events, drinks a totally reasonable amount. Idk who else, I don't watch a lot of anime that would produce those characters. Animate Solanin, so I can see the perfectly accurate anime version of my best friend and get depressed about it.

From what I have seen how women in my country are, they are very different from the women that usually show up in anime. They're more outgoing, social, have unique interests, other stuff. I never met a girl that behaves like the typical tsundere, yandere, kuudere, dandere, etc. Of course that's what I have seen around my area, maybe @Wasshio can provide a different observation.

Last part of point 5 is really uncalled for imo.

Anyway, Kou Shuurei from saiunkoku monogatari is both realistic and an amazingly written character.
She also fits to a "t" all your points except that (IIRC) "no missing parent" part. Which, like I said, is uncalled for anyway.
Also, Ayase Yue from Mahou Sensei Negima fits your criteria, and is another great character.

Can I just mention how unrealistic your "realistic" expectations are?

1) Distinctive hobbies and goals.
Not everyone has clear goals, but I do find that girls tend to be better at this than guys.
SuperRed said:
2) Realistic intelligence level, not too stupid, dense or too smart.
Go YouTube, search "my world is getting dumber". You'd be surprise how dense some people really are.
SuperRed said:
3) No over the top undeserved violence or whining, or too shy to talk to a guy they like.
Well... aside from the violence part that makes sense generally. Many people that I'd consider normal like to moan and hesitate when approaching a guy they like. Might be a cultural thing, but yeah they are real people.
SuperRed said:
4) They wear normal, everyday clothing and not extravagant outfits.
It's all relative, where would you draw the line where it'd be "extravagant"? I think any amount spent on makeup and beauty products is a excessive waste of money. And before I get lumped in with most guys, I think guys need to wash their faces more. I personally wipe my face with a wet towel maybe 3 times a day (more if I'm doing activities that make me sweat), my skin's fine.
SuperRed said:
5) They have other close female or male friends, no missing parents.
I've known girls who mix more in girl cliques, girls who spend lots of time with guys and girls that are loners. I don't see how 1 is more realistic than the other. Also must be nice to live in your world where missing parents aren't a thing. Reality is cruel, though they are a minority, they are a significant minority.

Maou_heika said:

Not really, you might want to check single parenthood rates in the US and Europe. Not an ideal situation.
I'm not a lolicon, you're just projecting your tendency to lewd 2D characters.

If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Sawako from Kimi ni Todoke. She WAS too shy to talk to the guy she liked, but there's this general, not overplayed (in my opinion) sense of awkwardness and shyness about her that I found very natural and relatable, not only in myself, but in people I've come across.
