Well it definitely looked like his sister was trying to make out with him in that episode.

I really like Jury as a character, so all the episodes focusing her are just awesome.

Fantastic episode. Sure, the battles may be getting a bit repetitive but the storytelling, as always, is magnificent. That scene with Shiori in the elevator was powerful as was the rest of the episode.

One interesting thing for me is that Utena seems to be going to Akio as a sort of confidant and, as we know, he seems to be far from trust worthy. I think this will be interesting in the future. Also, what does the pulling the sword out of a body symbolize. We've seen it throughout the series with Utena and a few others pulling it out of Anthy, as well as people currently stealing abilities from those close to them.

Mmhmm, the "transformation scene" before all the duels and the duels themselves are way too repetitive D: Oh well, the rest is making up for it.
I don't particularly like either Jury or Shiori, but I did enjoy looking into their thoughts and fears. I wonder what Anthy meant by "she hasn't changed". Hmm.

Utena talking to Akio about everything, surprised me too. He's going to manipulate her someway, I'm sure of it.

I was wishing that Shiori would put up more of a fight (seeing as how Jury dominated Utena and she had her sword), but it wasn't even close. Anyway, why was Utena talking to Akio? Also, I wish Miki answered the question about the damn stopwatch.

Finally, the stopwatch thing was brought up but Miki doesn't answer! Lameeee XD. /really wanted to know.

So seeing as how every Black Rose duelist gains some of the ability of the person whose sword they pulled out, doesn't that mean that Anthy must have some potential? :o However, the Prince is always descending to help Utena, she never wins her own battles anymore.

Nice to see some more development for Juri since I thought her story was pretty interesting when they introduced it in the first part of the series.

A morgue seems pretty reasonable when you compare it to a giant dueling arena with a floating castle inside. Plus, they mentioned something about 100 people being buried alive in that building; and body storage facilities are a must have when that happens.

Maybe it shows that the person they pulled the sword out of is their source of power, or their reason for fighting?

I really wish Miki had answered that question about the stopwatch. :(

Decent episode.. the fights are definitely becoming too repetitive and even the scenes are mostly all the same, only good thing is that at least they're over quite quickly.

Without a doubt Juri is my favorite character in this series. This episode only helped prove that when I had thought it in prior episodes detailing her backstory.

I love the Juri backstory, but I'm also a sucker for anything yuri. Juri I feel you girl! Shiori is pretty cute but she's all kind of a beezy for wanting to make her friend suffer because she was jealous of her.

I'm kinda notice that the scene with Utena entering the dueling arena last longer than most if not all the fights in the series xD

I loved this Episode. In the beginning when juri senpai was introduced, she instantly got my attention. I knew she would be an interesting character and now after watching this episode it's quite clear that she's a great character. I hope there'll be more episodes like this to come.

Best episode of the Black Rose Crest arc thus far, mostly because it tapped back into developments focusing on the core cast rather than a side character I barely care about: This episode was more about Jury than anything.

The situation is pretty sad and horrible all around.

Since it seems swords can be pulled out of more people than Anthy, that makes Anthy kind of special in a different sense, doesn't it? The sword within her is stronger than the swords within others.

Unlike Miki's sister in the last "seminar", Juri's old friend was completely unsympathetic before she got possessed by the Black Rose. It seems that she became a better person after she lost. I don't know why they're bothering at this point...Utena can kick anyone's ass.

Stole the man I thought you loved and don't have any qualms about, but we broke up so can we go back to being friends again? Hopefully Juri can move one now.

Getting a bit repetitive though.

Shiori has a rather annoying voice.

Yuri is a great character, one of my favorites from this show, glad to see some love for her :3

So next episode is about Tsuwabuki, I'm guessing it's filler then. Maybe not and he's the dark rose counterpart for Nanami, but I doubt it because 1. That should be Touga, and 2. I had thought he was a filler-only character (introduced in a filler episode and has only appeared in filler). Yeah, I think it's filler, besides, the Dark Rose arc would be too short if it were that way.

Nice episode, I love Juri's development. I hope she'll become strong someday!

Also, I wonder why do the previews spoil so much? I skip all of them and watch them only after finishing the episode in the preview (i.e. I watch episode 16 preview after the episode itself) just to see how much does it give off (everything)

My one main problem with old shows like this is the pacing. Its just so long. Unnecessary at that. All the repetitions. Fight comes, Utena wins, done. 3 times longer than the fight lasts the stair climb.
Nothing new about Juri was revealed, this was all already shown in her last episode.

And 20 more episodes to go.

PS: Totally read next episodes title wrong. Hehe.

So we finally get Juri's flashback.

So the she really did care more with Shiori than that other guy.

So Utena is just fighting anyone even not related to her :O

This is probably one of the fights where it lasted even longer than the Juri fight.

This episode really reminded me why this show has the psychological tag, idk how sane most of the characters are but Shiori's pretty nuts. I hope Juri doesn't end up with her and can find someone better tbh, but I'm not sure how likely that is. Regardless, it's nice to see a continuation of one of my favorite earlier episodes.

It was also kinda cool seeing Anthy at the end recognize the situation better than Utena, since that shows that while Utena deals directly with her opponents more, Anthy understands them better (to an extent at least, that's just my interpretation, but there could be more too it; I'm sure there's a breakdown somewhere with explanations for after I finish the series). An alternate to that is that maybe Anthy understands Shiori specifically better since she can relate to her, which would then raise some questions about her true feelings towards Utena, probably, or possibly her brother. It could be something completely different tho so who knows.

here are some Utena crackpot theories for this episode.

-The shadow play is a bit of a stretch but it kind of makes sense. The skit is about a person who is lamenting because of how she secretly wears three layers of wool underwear and is sad because she may never get married. She is confronted by an angel who convinces her that her secret is nothing to be ashamed of and the devil points out how no one wears three layers of wool underwear. This represents how Shiori is using her defensive side to convince herself that she hates Juri but in reality she secretly wants to be closer to her. Wool underwear can hold liquids so that symbolizes how Jury makes Shiori turned on(even if it is or isnt sexual). Yet she puts up barriers(the woolen underwear) to convince herself that she hates Jury. Also the angel’s hairstyle looks similar to Jury so it represents how Jury keeps motivating Shiori to be true to herself, but her devil is preventing her from doing as such, and even Utena tells her to take the underwear off.

-Even if the bird, which is a Java sparrow, probably does not have a specific meaning behind it, it may just be more of a catalyst for the breaking point between Jury and Shiori, since it crashed into the window.Since birds cant see glass, that may represent the blind knowledge and unexpected revelation that Jury does not give Shiori the cold shoulder because of the relationship trouble in the past with another boy. Shiori has be thinking for a while that's why Jury didnt interact with her.

I like the overall structure and creative ideas , all these obvious and hidden behind everything morals , but can we get a little progression to the main story? It's kinda repetitive. Not boring , but just seeing all these people getting ''one-shotted'' by Utena again and again...

New characters are still not explained at all , expect for the fact 2 of them are shounen ai fans and the other one loves some incest before sleep.

Repetition like this has always been one of Ikuhara's hallmarks (when the series length allows for it). However, one of the benefits of this is it allows you to build up characters slowly as you learn more about them, and it makes it easier to subvert once the series hits a stride.

A lot of people do have issues with the Black Rose Saga, but I think seeing the main cast by way of these secondary, attached characters is a nifty way of revealing more about them through narrative perspective shifts. (One upcoming episode in this arc really demonstrates this...)

Honestly wish I could care more about these student council characters. I don't feel anything towards both Juri and Shiori as characters but guess it was interesting to know more about their inner thoughts and fears. The sudden revelation of Shiori always hating Juri was kinda lame tho.

So Souji tried to use hatred as way to defeat Utena this time, huh?

Now that I really think about it, Utena is the most relatively normal character.

Shiori is either insanely in denial or just a sadist. Probably both.

Juli's pretty cool though, hope things work out for her and she can get over that crazy ass psycho.

This was my favorite episode so far. I found Juri relatable since Shiori reminded me a lot of someone I used to be friends with a long time ago.

I think what Anthy meant when she said that Shiori hasn't changed is that she can see that she's still just putting up a front.
