| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- I just got randomly linked to one of the pages of this and found Punpun's design to be kind of ridiculous and wanted to know just what is this manga about, so I read the first chapter... I'm not really sure what to think, this manga is either brilliant or totally stupid. |

While Punpun's character design looks rather comical, the lack of detail prevents any form of emotional expression on his side, setting him apart from everyone else (even his parents who are drawn the same way are more expressive). He seems lost and detached from his environment. |

I can't really decide if I like Punpun or not, but I can't stop reading... |

| 1. i knew i was going to drop this manga when i saw the freaky girl with the crazy smile in the beginning of this ch. 2. punpun can't show emotions on his face & can't talk to people. i just can't buy into that. 3. i just find the story to be boring/slow paced... punpun wants to be an an astronaut to impress a girl? not my thing. 4. geez... this manga is ranked top 10 in MAL, the genres are great (drama, SoL, Psy., Seinin), and it's 147 chapters long. -------------------------------- it doesn't matter if the manga is long or short, top 10, or with great genres... if the story sucks, so does the manga. 0/10 |

| I'm astonished. First off, the protagonist a a poorly drawn bird who can't speak. Second, the people who aren't birds are TERRIFYING. Third, this manga has a score of 9.07. I'm extremely curious as to what will happen next because this first chapter is simultaneously, hilarious, sad and horrifying. |

| Reading the synopsis of the manga, coming across some of its panels, and asking others; I've tried to get the gist of what Oyasumi Punpun really was about by doing those things but I couldn't put my fingers on it but now that I've started to read it for myself, I'm finally a step closer towards the answer. It wasn't the best thing to read before sleeping though because of the unnerving faces. Punpun and his family's weird bird forms and the nightmarish designs of every other human except for Aiko aside, what happened at the first chapter really was heavy for me, especially the whole family situation he had. Hell, I even tried to ask God the same question he did many times before, oof. What Punpun walked into that fateful morning was pretty much what happened at home very recently. I definitely know that feeling of not wanting to blame someone despite pretty much catching them red-handed all too well... |
