A very interesting series, it was creepy and scary but also confusing for some parts. The way they puzzled everything from a confusing start was a good one, although it was confusing. But honestly all of the characters were interesting and I love it. Overall a great show, definitely one of my favorites.

Damn still a lot of things I have questions about,
We got some hints about the timelines though from Rika. It seems like it’s a endless cycle of repeating June

Interested to see how this mystery unravels... looking forward to season 2!

That crazy fight scene between Rena and Keiichi lol but seriously though, this show was amazing! Sadly, I'm still confused on what the hell is going on. Is the Curse real? Is the Sonozaki family behind all the murders? Is Rika stuck in a time loop forever even though Keiichi seemed to have stopped it? Are Aliens behind it all!?

Sigh... at least Mion is still best girl.

I don’t know if it’s just me but this seemed like a very different episode and arc altogether, by this show’s standards.

For one thing, the focus on the arc totally changed gears from the midpoint and, to be honest, the transition didn’t entirely sit right with me.

Getting a step closer by being able to knowing oneself’s sin, certainly makes me wonder what the true purpose of all this is and how accurate the theory circling around aliens is now.

Rika with a very interesting reveal in the end there though, “Endless July Cycle”. Very highly intriguing indeed and hopefully we’ll get to the end of this next season. Is this the power from being the reincarnation of the Oyashiro?

Keichii’s hug out of the blue and the reactions of Mion and Satoko’s as a result was an absolute treat to watch though. Kawaii~

We haven’t really gotten much relevance yet from Rika and Satoko’s bit except for the respective arcs of course either. I wonder if and when we’ll get around to those...

Overall, this has been one entertaining ride! Especially enjoyed the non-linear storytelling from Arcs 2 & 5 but the first arc really sucked me brilliantly first up. Story is but half done it feels so I suppose it’s best to judge after seeing through everything. Mystery and the gore were the highlight of the show for me. Within 2 sittings, in one day, to finish all 26 episodes after all.

Damn, some of those extreme facial expressions from the characters though. If I didn’t do my research early up, I could’ve possibly be in for a traumatic ride jeez. Voice Acting was one of the departments that really stood out too imo and I’m very glad that the VAs of the main cast will be back again for the 2020 version.

Really liked the Op and ED too! Fit the show perfectly. Some of the eerie soundtracks really knocked it out of the part too in creating the atmosphere, all round good stuff! Animation-wise, there was a lot more to be desired and for this finale too. However, I must say that the facial expressions and the details put behind those was downright perfect for the series.

As such, I think I’m going to settle with a solid 8/10.

Staying up the whole night watching this definitely wasn’t a great idea. Still feeling chills every now and then and waiting for the sunlight to break in to reassure me xD. Guess I’ll have to do the same tomorrow too.

Edit: Bumped this up to a generous 9/10 after watching Kai's finale. (Nearly-) Everything ties up really well and I'm just left amazed, really.

Pretty good episode! I loved how Rena took the entire class as hostages! It ended pretty happily. Also, right at the end we see that Rika is saying that she will be redoing everything over and over. does this mean she will continue until she can change fate? Season 2 is gonna be interesting!!

Not bad. Not bad, that's what I think about the ending. It felt a bit rushed in this last arc, the truth behind the curse I mean. Also, despite the more or less "scientific" explanation of the curse, some parts remain a mystery to me, such as Rika's clairvoyance or Keichi's flashback. Maybe they'll explain it in the next season. That aside, everything was pretty much decent.

Well... I hoped for more explanation in the last episode, but we only get a reset in the end and a peaceful solution for the arc. I'm having a hard time giving this a good score because apart from episode 25 nothing really made sense. I hope that stuff will get explained in the second seasson, but as a standalone show season 1 is quite bad. 2/10

I still wonder what exactly happened on the first arc with how Reina and Mion seemingly bipolar (I'm guessing this last arc was a parallel to that and its just keichi's delusion) and who exactly drugged and ripped rika's gut's out on the satoko arc or even the even more confusing disappearance of Hojo's father's body, that's honestly the most confusing thing out of this. I hope they get answered in the next season. I agree with most that this last arc was not as entertaining as the previous ones.

I'm reminded by the first arc of Hakomari of the whole scenario of higurashi but more graphic

i'm conflicted about the ending, the last arc was one of the most engaging ones for me but i think they brought up too many potential theories (e.g. the scientific explanation, aliens and clones/zombies) right before the final episode that never get answered properly for the ending to be satisfying

also the message of "your friends will always be there for you" seems too basic to end on... keichi really annoyed me at times but i liked seeing rena question her actions like that

it's probably expanded on in kai but right now i'll probably give it a 7/10 on its on since the arcs were either really interesting and tense or plain boring to get through

Yeah, its actually pretty simple for both of them to regain a sanity. Alongside with what happen to Shion-Mion arc; realizing mistakes and took an atonement, then not holding another grudges, and trusting your friends with all of you had, and promising to forgave each others much and releasing the fatigue by hugging each other, or maybe a little kiss was okay too xD....

Okay, it may sounds silly. But its happening to that cursed village. It may sounds Sci-fi, but i still believed the supernatural being impacted much on their time looping and why they had the infection on their own bodies. As the result? It still remain mystery, how and why its happening. And what should they did to get rid of that curse, or parasites, or viruses, or whatever the fuck was that. Until the time looping at 'an endless June tragedy' still not over, the whole shit might still happening. The girls still went insane. And more cruelty situations always happen in front of me. Kek! The mystery still blurred in some place. So, let me see the next season then!

Scoring time. Its really hard and i might decided to mess up my judgement here. But, as always, i had my own decision to be retold:
Story: 10
Art: 9
Sounds: 10
Characterization: 9
Enjoyment: 9

The art surely came from a massive crappy deen style format. While the characterization and enjoyment decreasing point came from a multiple different timeline arcs that somehow couldn't reach its max about their characterization and my personal enjoyment. Yeah, the whole resetting time was not my thing. And it get worst by the multivariable multiple timeline arc they had to progress the plot. Or maybe, there were actually no actual progression plot, except that few seconds on these episode. What a tireful event. Its indeed a truth. The level of an anxiety, Higurashi had it more than an endless eight at that famous female god. Lol. What a beautiful proverb. And it took a week for me to finished this xD. 9/10 at the end. With detail score might be at 9.5/10. Thats it.

Okay enough the nonsense. Lets go to the second season!

Endless June indeed. So that was Season 1! Enjoyed it totally! Thre are still some mysteries left. Will have to watch Season 2(Kai) for that.

Damn, what a great ride this show was. And there's still much more to cover. The way they tie-in each arc is just really fantastic. This is the first horror anime I watched and I gotta say it's pretty good. It doesn't rely on cheap scares but, on psychologically scarring your brain which is far scarier.

That battle between Keiichi and Rena though, even Oishi can't help but be mesmerized by that battle. But, they really pulled a sike with that ending. Ow you thought they was happy? Nah nah, there's more to come. And boy I am looking forward to starting season 2.

The end to this arc felt off and too easy. Rena regain her memories and that lead to a happy ending, felt forced imo. It was pretty much a non-ending considering there a whole another season left.

I liked this series, it's a really good mystery anime. It give you all these subtle hints and clues and character interactions that make you question everything. It like playing detective while watching this and piece things together. And even still then, the show might choose to subvert your expectations through unreliable narrators or something else completely unexpected.

7.5-8/10.

Edit: On the subject of Rikka not really surprised by anything involving her since...

Well, I think this arc ended decent but I'm not a fan of this "friendship" theme.
They could have shown how Rena came to realize what she is doing or rather, at least some flashbacks for this to be convincing.

The only thing that made this episode for me is Rika. After snapping in the previous arc, I know, she has something to offer to make everything intact.
Since another season is available, the last second teaser will hype things up.

Overall, I loved the series concept. Different arcs of what seems to be unrelated at first but as the series progressed, started to tie up. Although not completed yet which is fine, because it will leave space for the sequel. From the start, I already noticed the loop symbol from the title art but can't seem to find the connection right away until the previous and last episode.

On to the sequel now!

Incredible ending to the first season.
I absolutely loved the scene when Rika challenged Rena, "this isn't the first time". Keiichi's duel with Rena on the rooftops while casually teasing each other was magnificent. It moved me to tears when the fight ended and she couldn't finish the job, they had to much love for each other.

This show has such good character development, it's definitely one of my favorites of all time. Solid 9/10 for me.

This was an absolutely thrilling episode and a great way to end the series. It does leave a lot of mysteries hanging which is a little bit disappointing for me, but it's pretty obvious that they'll be answered in the next series and I would much rather that than rush the story.

Regarding the episode itself, it was definitely was not lacking any intensity. It was awesome seeing Keiichi become a hero; I especially really liked the scene when Satoko handed him Satoshi's bat. I'm also quite surprised that Rika made it out alive, since I was really anticipating for her to get slaughtered by Rena. Aside from that, the only other thing that I thought was a bit off was just how easily life was able to return to normal as shown in the last scenes after what had happened through the span of this episode. Although Rika being questioned by Oosishi at the very end could perhaps imply that this was happening in yet another timeline...?

Overall, I loved this series, and it's of my most enjoyable watches in recent memory. It's listed as horror but I didn't really find it all too scary, but the suspense and mystery aspects of it were thrilling and completely compensated for it. I really enjoyed the way of storytelling with the separate arcs and adding bits and pieces of new information each time; it really was an engaging and exciting experience trying to stitch together the info from different arcs to form one cohesive timeline. This show has been such a wild and fun ride, and I'm so glad there's still more to come!

On one hand this anime is kinda interesting by itself and I liked it in some way when watched it many years ago but on other - it's so weak in comparison with VN (especially renewed Steam version) where music is much better and story driven in more mystic and thrill way, anime simply based on non-detailed craziness, overwhelming gore and undeveloped characters. VN is like Silent Hill 2 and anime is more like Silent Hill Homecoming if you know what I mean. VN's renewed character style is also better than in anime.

This series is not about horror. It's about mystery and its creepiness. Maybe a little bit of blood too.

The anime is good about the characters' voice, the action/fight scenes, and the bloody scenes, but the novel is better at explaining important details, characters' thoughts, and thrilling atmospheres, which explains why many people, even after watching this last episode, are still confused with how things work.

I only read the steam version novel, which uses new music/ sound sets, but old fans apparently prefer old music/ sound sets. I never tried the old version, though, so I cannot compare. The character sprites/ artworks, old and new, are both great. Heck, I love all the characters art, in all the novels and anime.

What a Series. Really sad that not many people know about it. The storytelling is sooo good.
What a way to the end the series. Rena going freaking insane just had me jumping out of my chair 🤣 even though she was there to kill everyone 😅.
They told us so many things in the last episode, but still we don't really know what is happening. Plus what in the hell is RIKA.
After the first arc Rena was the most mysterious character, but now that the series has ended ig Rika is more mysterious rn.
Well ig I will have to complete S2 quickly or else I will claw my throat out of curiosity 🤣.

Honestly this anime turned out a lot better than I thought it'd be.
It started out a bit confusing but the more we learned about the real stories behind everyone's actions it all made a lot more sense.
There's still so much more to learn like Oyashiro, the curse and lots more which Kai will most likely explain.

I feel like pretty much every scene had a purpose too, even when you think it's just some banter it turns out to be some hints like Shion (which we thought was Mion at the time) saying she was tired from the night before.

Got kinda lost in the plot few times but I mean who didn't.
I didn't thought Rika would be such a damn mastermind, I mean the last episode was just wow... easily my favourite character.

The doctor saying he wants to marry Satoko was just straight up creepy but okay...

Well, that was a hell of a ride. No wonder this show is categorized as Avant-Garde.

This arc was definitely my favorite. I wonder what the second season has in store for us.

It seems like the second season will be the same case with the curse, but with a different outcome. Over and over again. It's either a parallel universe or a time loop (with different outcomes).

I just want to know more about Rika. She's the most aware of the situation. And if I recall from the past episodes, she is the only sain person that wants to protect her friends. All of the other friends has killed one or the other from each arc.

Overall, I give this series a 6 or 7 out of 10. Some illogical parts made me mad. Plus, the first couple of each arc is boring to go through, but I guess it was worth it in the end (kinda)

Well, now I completely understand why I've seen people comparing Rika to a certain someone from Madoka Magica. She's an intriguing character and will probably turn out to be the most interesting, I'm looking forward to that.

For the rest, that was a good arc, though I found Rena's characterization a bit odd, even when taking the curse or whatever that is in account. I'm also not very sure when it comes to the reveal about the worms and all that. It was still good though, Rena was still an interesting character and the arc was quite tenseful.

Regarding the rest of the show, I liked how mysterious it was and how the cast was developed. But I also found that for most of the arcs, the episodes that didn't involve any character losing it weren't that interesting, and the rest of the time, the violence was too over-the-top even if I understand why it is so.
Some of the characters' reactions were also a bit weird (aside from what is caused by the "curse"), Mion being a good example but also Keiichi who apparently was barely shocked to remember the previous timelines.

But judging by the way it ended it seems like the next season will be the real deal, so I'm very curious to see that and if it can change my opinion on the first season. I'm giving a 7 for this one, I initially was going for a 6 but considering that it is most likely purposely confusing, I don't want to be too harsh until I've seen the rest.

Okay, the ending quite well resonated with my feelings for the heroes. The atmosphere among friends seemed to go back to normal even if Rena was that close of making the improbable mistake, the kind of mistake Keiichi prayed away in Ep. 25.

Rika-chan is an observer, or the custodian, that lives through all the variations of events inside the summer of 1983. It's not clear why the events unfold the way they are developing and happy ends are pretty rare. I'll leave this series without a score as I always do with the ones I can't say I thoroughly understood but all in all I'm happy that I finally finished it even after a long break.

Now to season 2, with a little break in between, there is an aftertaste I want to live with for some time.

You should probably wait to rate it until you see the series through to completion. The first season and the second season are quite literally two parts of one story and inseparable. It would be like watching a 3 hour film and attempting to rate it halfway through.
