What's important though is that Subaru is fighting not for himself but for the sake of someone he cares for. Cool to see some Frederica in action especially with her transformation. Elsa hasn't changed much and isn't a pushover.
I feel like Subaru always is forced to manage multiple crises at one time nowadays. Last time he had to deal with the Witch’s Cult and the White Whale now it’s the Sanctuary and Elsa. Usually, he’s impatient to deal with the crisis that results in deaths of his loved ones first, like with the Witch’s cult, but he actually had to deal with the White Whale before he could deal with the Cult. Maybe same deal with this one, he will somehow have to deal with the trial first, and that will give him the advantage to take on Elsa and the mabeast, because it seems that no matter how quickly he gets to the mansion, she’ll be right on his heels.

It takes away from the hype. I've waited patiently years for this whilst managing to dodge spoilers left and right. Don't fail me now y'all.
Wow, people are really handling things differently now. I'm guessing Garfiel only wanted him to do the trials when he was the only one who knew that Subaru could do it, but since he blurted it out to everyone, including Ryuzu and Ram, Roswall's confidante, he couldn't do that anymore without consequence. He could've made it so that everyone thought Emilia was doing them instead of Subaru. And then there's Emilia, who doesn't want to turn tail and run. Props to her.
Even Roswall was acting different, he didn't sound like he trusted or had faith in Subaru anymore. Glad to see someone finally pick up on Subaru's ramblings that could clue them in on RBD. More so than ever, I think (theory)
that Roswall knows something about RBD
That pause that Ram had when Subaru was joking about throwing her off into the distance, Subaru actually did that when he was trying to get Rem back into her senses, but since Rem no longer is remembered, she got confused for a bit, I wonder if their twin psychic link is more powerful than we think, and that she will end up remembering Rem.
Wrote the above while watching, and then it was addressed a moment later lol.
Hmm, so I'm now realizing that the reason why she's more loyal to Roswall than ever is because she has nobody else, she used to have Rem, but now she doesn't, and that's why she was ok with being a sacrificial pawn, because she had nobody else to live and come back for.
Wow, I did not expect Frederica to be so cooperative after suspecting her for so long. My theory was that
she's actually half-mabeast and answered to her creator or to a shaman. But now I'm not so sure. Who does she have an oath/contract with? A witch?
Wait, is Ram using a wand? Probably one that Roswall gave her to channel her mana better, like a portable horn. Maybe because Rem is not around to do the fighting.
Return of the Shamac! Why did he grasp his chest? That didn't happen before...is it because his gate still isn't healed? Or is it because he's using the Witch's miasma for Shamac?
Ram just casually throws Subaru out of the cloud. She's stronger than before.
Wait, so Elsa was roaming around the mansion for two days straight? What for? Looking for someone, like Beatrice? I guess Frederica isn't in cahoots with Elsa after all, unless it's an elaborate act, since we never see her again after she goes off to fight her.
Woah, did not expect Frederica to just rip off her clothes, if she was going to transform, then they would've ripped in the transformation anyways lol
Did not expect her to go full beast. I guess Garf gave the stone knowing that she needed it to fully transform. My theory is that
because its a pair, one sibling needs the other's stone to fully-transform, kind of like how Ram and Rem only had one horn each when they were born.
That's no normal mabeast, it got bats floating around and everything! That's definitely (theory)
someone who has transformed. Elsa? or Maylie?
I'm going to have to go back and watch what happened when Subaru was floating in and out of consciousness. It sounded like Emilia, but that can't be! Edit: Never mind, that was totally Ram, I guess she tried to save Subaru by getting him onto Patrasche, but looks like they got knocked back by that mabeast. Excellent animation.
I have to admit, I started crying when I realized that it was only going to be Petra's arm. I almost threw up from gagging (happens when I get incredibly disturbed). It's been so long since I cried in a Re:Zero episode, I think I might just cry again thinking that, out of joy. I was thinking this would just be another exposition episode. I should've known they were going to do that to Petra when she was acting all cute for too long. That cry of Subaru's got me. Best anguished scream he's ever given in the whole series. Looks like Ram's hair tie and Patrasche's body means they all died. I think Ram had to cut off Petra's arm because she was trapped under the rubble and Subaru wouldn't let go. Lots of jump cuts this episode. I wonder if those were in the LN too. (This you can tell me about, whether or not those random cuts were LN material or not, which would explain a lot).
Brings back memories of when I watched Corpse Party, when someone was left holding just the arm of the person. That was traumatizing then and even more so now.
Maylie, a new name, very interesting. My theory is that
Maylie was the mabeast we saw earlier, and that Maylie is actually the blue-haired girl we saw in S1 who was controlling the ulgarm. So now not only do we have Elsa to worry about, but a super powerful mabeast that looks like Melaquera, the beast in the Frozen Bond OVA (My other theory was that Elsa was the mabeast the whole time)
Hmm...Elsa's client knows that Subaru is a shut-in. Echidona and Satella know about his past. But they couldn't employ Elsa, so who else? (Theory)
Someone with a Gospel that actually talks about Subaru? Would make sense, because Elsa apparently knew the future of what would've happened if Subaru hadn't reset. In that case, her client could be Roswall,
because it seems as if both of them have access to the contents of a future-telling Gospel, and both know more about Subaru than they should. But why would he?
What were those spikes that Elsa threw at them? Was it Elsa? That's a new one. Is she half-porcupine? It looked like Ram fully expected her arm to be shredded, but her arm is stronger than the average human's. Plus, she moved around like an animal when fighting Reinhard.
Beatrice saved Subaru. Is it because she doesn't want to see people die, or does she know that she is being targeted and wants Subaru's help?
We all expected Subaru to die and reset, but I'm glad he didn't. Now it's getting interesting.
Tea was next to Beatrice. It probably was always there, but now tea has a new meaning.
Still think Beatrice is a former Witch, or a relative/friend of a Witch, or a current Witch who has changed her name
Episode was called the Maiden's Gospel. There were three maids, and no Gospel in sight. Very interesting choice for a title.
Out of the cuts there was a short moment in the novel where they described Subaru getting hit by a short seering pain from using Shamac with a screwed up gate, as for the jump-cuts you get to see the failed escape attempt (from getting surprounded by several Mabeasts while a Wounded Patrasche powered thought and uses the last of her strenght to thrown Subaru away towards the mansion.)
Though this episode would be less intense after the ending from the last one, but I was completely wrong. Big fat F for Frederica, Ram, Patrasche and Petra. Beatrice's timing wasn't the best :'( I guess Subaru will find a way to kill himself redo this at some point, but still.
Frederica wasn't behind this all after all, she was just a red herring. She proved to be a great girl, even if she ended going full furry mode.
Cannot belive we are already at the 6th episode. I feel this season is going to end way too fast.
Hmm nice location for Subaru's checkpoint. Though Subaru's attempt to help Emilia by offering to take her place in the trials was with good intentions to Emilia it's anything but. Though the memories of her sister its still gone at least Ram now knows about Rem. Ram and Frederica's relationship though is quite the interesting one. Elsa's ambush sure put to rest Subaru's suspicions though. If anything Roswaal sure has quite an impression of races that serve as his maids though first Oni's and now beast man. Despite being a child Petra did well in remaining calm and helping Subaru with his plan. Her determination to see things through is pretty impressive for someone so young. Overall an excellent ep that combined excellent revelation, character advancement and dread as Subaru encounters another trial that has steep odds arrayed against him. Beatrice's save sure was unexpected though not unwelcome. Curious to see what happens next.

OMG what a VERY great episode, so much tension and this end of episode was just perfect, now that Petra, Frederica etc are dead Subaru definitely need to die to reset the timeline but damn Beatrice at the end is very interesting I wonder what will happen next
God Damn I love Frederica even more now then ever. I love how she can control her hair I thought that was pretty cool. Also I LOVE her transformation sequence as well.
Honestly this was a pretty good moment for Emilia as well that will probably be thrown away once Subaru eventually resets. (Unless the reset updates)
Why Beatrice why did you save him? Everyone is toast!
I still think Subaru will reset. Also Rem told Subaru that if he ever saw Beatrice to tell her "Roswall said to ask the question."
Speaking of Roswall my man looked super suspect in this episode. Subaru kind of messes up when talking to him which made Roswall question him in some type of way which makes me think that Roswell has some sort of idea abut Subaru's reset ability.
Ever since Subaru got into sanctuary, i get vibes that Roswall somehow knows he is coming back from death. At the very least, Roswall knows there's something big going on with him cause he was like: ''this time huh?''. If he is only suspicious, he might get on to Subaru if he asks Beatrice ''the question'' whatever the question is, since in this timeline Roswall didn't send that message trough Ram. Man! This plot is complex! I'm loving it!
anime of the year so far!
I think I don't know wtf I'm doing. Maybe. Probably.
I still had not time to watch the ep today, but just checking the score in this topic, it is (for while) the highest rated episode of this series after 200 votes.
Even higher than the 4th.
wow, what happened in there? did Sub&Lia already made out?
Just dropping this surprise here, later i came back to read the comments, after watch the ep.

Anyway, I can't wait to see what question Beatrice is going to ask Subaru ("Tell Beatrice that Roswaal said to ask the question"). Maybe it's going to have something to do with return by death. It seems Roswaal is aware of Subaru's power, given as he said "this time?" in this episode and had faith that Subaru could beat the witch cultists in the last episode. Can't wait to see how this plays out!
By the way, this really bugged me - why the heck does Elsa call Subaru a shut-in (hikikomori)? He hasn't really shown hikikomori behaviour in this world, could she know about his past?

Oh yeah! I totally forgot about that part, where Subaru can just ask Beatrice to ask the question. I really hope he says that in the next episode and isn’t blinded by anger and rage to remember. I want to see everything change, I don’t want something that significant to be carried over into the next cours.

Wow, that was risky coming here before watching the episode. I‘m surprised you made it out unspoiled.
Loving this arc alot. Elsa just fuckin shit up. And that camera work of subaru being blown from the dragon and right into the mansion was cool as shit. Props to the animators who did this at home, but this is what I like about Re Zero. The suffering and gory deaths
This is getting better with every episode. The atmosphere that is so discomoforting and intriguing. The OST is on point and the action scenes are really good. I love how the thriller enfolds and we get bit by bit more information and can cross characters off the list of culprits.
Sweet baby Jesus! Another fantastic episode. They keep piling them on and damn do I want to know what Frederica is about to say! Talk about cliff hangers

Why did no one take out that thing out of Subaru's shoulder the moment they escaped? Talk about conveniently wasting time xD.
Subaru is professional "rewind" guy, panicking is not a choice, it'll make things worser.

I'm not certain they noticed at that point. Even Subaru might not have noticed if he had enough of an adrenaline rush. It's also possible Ram noticed but didn't pull it out since that can exacerbate blood loss, while Petra pulled it out not knowing that or after realizing the wound had become more complicated and was less likely to become worse by removing the spike.
Every day you can read a book or watch some anime is a good day!
Holy shit! This episode was awesome from the begining to the end.
I really like the first person Subaru perspective they did at the end it was cool.
Also big cliffhanger, how will Subaru get out of this i wonder.

Maybe, maybe not, but it reminds me of that stupid convenience in Japan Sinks, where no one noticed the girl had a wound in her leg until the very end, so I found it stupid.

Or blood loss, he was bleeding very badly and it looks like he may have just lost his left hand.
This episode gave me the best scene of the second season.
Subaru cuddling and hugging a Petra who is already crushed on him, while Ram slightly jealousy comes out with (the sarcasm of a forgotten Ram), which shows that deep down but deep in her frozen heart a little bit Subaru holds, but little .
I spent much of this episode's second half trying to figure out the timeline of Elsa's attack in relation to Subaru's new respawn point. If I'm remembering right, Emilia did the trial again a second time in the previous loop, and Subaru left the next morning after she failed again. By this point, Elsa had attacked and presumably killed everyone in the mansion, giving us a timeframe of up to 48 hours between the save point and the attack (depending on how long it takes to reach the mansion from the Sanctuary, with it at least being implied to not be a long journey (so presumably less than 24 hours away)).
However, this time Subaru and Ram left the morning after Emilia's first failure and Elsa appeared not long after their arrival. This then suggests that the attack took place at least 12 hours and at most 24 (given that it's relatively light outside from what we can see, I'm guessing more like 16-20 as it's definitely not evening), which really wouldn't give Subaru a lot of room to work in to get past this obstacle. But then Elsa said that Subaru's arrival was earlier than her schedule had suggested, so it's hard to discern what exactly the timeframe Subaru has to work with is. More pertinently, though, is the fact that Elsa's client seems to know exactly who's in the mansion and when, as well as having some idea of when Subaru is expected to return; seems to me someone (i.e. Roswaal or Frederica) is feeding Elsa's client information, for whatever reason.
Beyond my confusion about the timeframe, I'm not too surprised that Emilia reacted as she did to Subaru's suggestion about taking the trial in her place. As viewers, we understand exactly why Subaru is doing this and know that he doesn't mean to seem like he doesn't trust her with it, but it's only natural that Emilia would see it that way. Frankly, I'm a little disappointed that Subaru didn't apologise for overstepping his bounds there, given that he knows full well that he has done so.
And then there's Beatrice "saving the day" at the end there. I assume that this will merely delay Subaru's fate, but it gives him a chance to potentially get some more information out of her, as he still has that key question Roswaal told him last episode that he can use to get through to her. So let's see what sort of answers she has in store for us.

She was talking about Beatrice, not Subaru when she said "shut-in"
Great episode. Interesting checkpoint. Finally hint that somebody actually works with Elsa, but for who they work for? And end was daaaamn, here we go again, let's start over Subaru, then suddenly wild Beako appears. I didn't expect that last save. But honestly who would believe all those maids are dead? This probably won't last long but I am interest to see Beako fighting Elsa who will come out better.

Your maths is pretty good but you're missing three days it took Subaru to prepare for the Villagers to return to Irlam.
