The original series was in my ptw for over 10 years now, haha, finally checking this out. Can't compare as I still didn't see the old version, but so far looks good. I was worried it's probably not something I would like but looks relaxing and nice. The ED was cute.

What a glorious time to be alive. Don't know what anime gods were responsible for finally granting us a complete adaptation of the manga after all these years, but thank you. If this does truly go the distance, no matter how many seasons we get - and how long - we're in for quite the journey. This will basically be the FMA Brotherhood of shoujo. So many twists and turns in the series. I've read and watched quite a few shoujo out there, but Fruits Basket will always be my favorite. There's just something very special about it. Can't explain it really. I'm curious if Yuki will still be as emotionally resonant and relatable as he was for my younger self. We'll see.

It was a great start. And a great adaptation. Based on the staff, the director hasn't done too much in the past, but the episode itself was fine. I was a little worried, but so far nothing out of the ordinary. The entire voice cast has been changed, obviously, and while I'll dearly miss Hocchan, Iwami is doing a fine job as Tohru. And Sawashiro Miyuki as Tohru's mom? NICE. But what I really wanted to mention was the composer and sound director behind this new adaptation. Incredibly talented, the both of them. Based on the list of works the sound director has worked on, this dude is a god. The music is in good hands, especially judging by the first episode.

Can't wait for more. Newcomers are in for a treat. Plenty of emotional and heartwarming moments ahead.

It's here ;__; The feeling I have right now is indescribable...but besides a huge wave of nostalgia, I'm really excited and can't wait for the rest of the series! I really hope that this time around, Fruits Basket will get what it deserves, a full adaptation. So far, they haven't rushed anything, and I sure hope it stays that way. The character designs aren't my favorite, I would've liked to see the updated art style from Takaya Natsuki, but I think I can warm up to the new designs by the end of the second episode.

As for the music, it's quite fitting so far, but nothing special. However, I have faith in Yokoyama Masaru, he's a really versatile composer. I love his battle music, but he composes really beautiful, emotional pieces. The ED song and visuals made me tear up as well.

It's been way too long since I've watched the first adaptation, so I honestly don't remember the VAs at all. It's probably for the best, because I think everyone so far fits their role quite well. With the exception of Yuki, because I have sort of a bias against Shimazaki's voice (although I quite liked Eugeo).

Needless to say, I loved the first episode. It was a great start in terms the faithfulness to the manga, and it definitely builds a bit of intrigue with Tohru's past and current situation (flashback to when her relatives were arguing about who will take her in after the funeral), and especially the cliffhanger. The chibi parts and iconic poses are still there, which is great. Honestly I never thought Yuki was that good looking, lol, so it's always funny to see the Yuki fanclub. Anyways, can't wait for the next episode x_x Haven't felt this restless in awhile.

One of the first manga I ever read and definitely a classic to boot. It's so good to get a heavy dose of quality nostalgia especially after being jaded by so many less than ideal titles over the past seasons. My feels were touched, my memories began to flow, and my heart is dancing in joy already. Cannot wait for more.
Don't believe the hype.

But why the OP so Yuki centric? Gimme more Kyo!

I'm actually quite surprised at how Yuki centric it is and how it focuses on Yuki and Tohru's relationship more than Yuki and Kyo's considering

Maybe the actual OP will have more Kyo/Tohru or the later seasons/cours?

Maybe it's because

[spoiler] The romance between Tohru and Kyo just starts to really develop after the revelation of the cat true form, before that, in the beginning part of the series most of the development is centered on Yuki's character [/ spoiler]

Okay so I was a bit worried initially that it wouldn't capture the humorous tone from the 2001 series, but it managed to be similar and at least satisfying.

This almost feels like a perfect adaptation we needed, I just don't seem to recognize the prologue scene.

Perfect start and a 5/5

Solid 5/5 episode.
Furuba was the first manga that really got me into this world of anime and manga, it was about 14 years ago, and it still has a very special place in my heart.
The first episode was very faithful to the manga, the animation of beautiful (Hopefully the quality won't drop with time...) and the voices are good. I do need to get used to them but I feel like they can grow on me.
Great overall nostalgia. :D

Loved the 1st episode already!
I've been a huge fan of the series, and I usually read the manga again at least annually XD
So, I'm quite glad I can be alive to watch the remake! Can't wait until it finally covers more of the series!

The ending feels like a fanservice because of how the characters are portrayed, lol.

Gaaah this was such a good episode!! Fingers crossed the adaptation will be accurate, but I am not much worried about this considering Takaya sensei's involvement~

The voices are going to take a while to get used to, but I really like the art and colorful animation.

As someone who watched the original series in dub and now doing the same, it was really cool to hear some of the voice actors of the original series! I am especially glad Tohru, Yuki and Kyo have the same VAs.

As this is the second series of the same show, it is inevitable that the original series oscillates in my mind. The first episode did not feel as humorous as the original first episode, seems like this one will be more slow paced in some aspects. The soundtrack is lovely. Yet again, it can’t top the original soundtracks. They were literally amazing.

All these being said, I am very moved to see my favorite anime once again. I love the art style, the subtle way the story is being narrated and the mysteriously deep aura it has. Already obvious this is going to be a heavier narration. I can’t wait to see the other episodes.

5/5 <3

Yeah this has a very classic shoujo feel to it. Pretty good first episode. I forgot that this series had supernatural elements to it. Seems like the entire family is the zodiac ppl. I wonder how closely that story about the cat relates to the family.

It's pretty meme that they turn animal after being touched by a girl. It reminds of girls bravo where the MC is allergic to girls so basically can't touch them. Anyway I liked the setup. Pretty excited that this will be a full adaption split into multiple seasons (from what I've heard).

I loved the original and gosh I was so happy to hear there was a remake!

though admittingly, maybe because I've seen the first animation that this one falls short of my expectations. both in the animation and sound. certain moments felt a little less feel's provoking and the humour felt undermined by the lack of both visual and sound effect.

BTW, Yuki has white hair?!?! this will take some time getting used to!

overall based on the first episode I do prefer the original. but besides that, it was still a decent episode and I look forward to seeing how much of the story we get to see this time around.

I'm just so happy :) I can't believe how much I missed the old Fruits Basket characters (especially my favorite Shigure <3), and watching them again with modern animation and direction just warmed my heart. They did manage to do make enough differences to avoid making it feel like a rehash though (the scene where Yuki goes to get the stuff with his rat pals is sufficiently creepy) which I like.
Also, at the ED title card, did it say Fruits Basket 1st Season? As in they're planning for 2+ seasons??? Woo hoo!

Those girls were in the original, but with different designs, if my memory proves correct. They called themselves the Yuki Fanclub (in the dub, at least) and even got a focus episode on the president (she was the prez right??? I kinda spaced out most of that episode).

actually, looking now, the one in the left, with long hair, is pretty different from the fourth member in this scene in older version (and the mangá...)

but, there's another member of the club (that appears way more ahead) that looks a lot like her, if I remember correctly

I'm not sure since everyone's preferences vary, but Fruits Basket will gradually turn darker.
This is coming from a fan of the series so my opinion might be biased.
This anime will be focused about the Sohma's zodiac curse and the series is more character-based because there will be many flashbacks in the future. It will turn deep and serious later, which is something I really like. Though there will still be comedic and slice of life moments. In conclusion, no, it won't just be repeating the same shitty comedy or your usual slice of life. That's why it's quite popular, I think. I hope you will give it a try!

It makes sense that they would be very similar, since they both cover the first chapter pretty faithfully. Yes the original changed a bit of things as the series went on, but it’s first episode was pretty on point, with really just one major thing omitted, which the new anime included.

As this new series goes on, it will begin to distinguish itself as different. Especially when it comes to things that were anime only from the original, which I assume will not be in the new one.

In the manga and original anime, the two on the right, & one other girl who’s not here, are the ones who confront Tohru, with the pigtail girl being the main one. Later we learn the black haired girl here (who had brown hair in the old anime) is the Prince Yuki Fanclub president, and the girl on the left shows up later in a fan club centered chapter/episode.

This first episode was almost the same as the first episode of the 2001 version. I not really like that Yuki now is voiced by a male VA I prefer is old VA over his new one. The animation is pretty cute but simple. I still like the scene where Shigure laugh about Tooru living in a tent. It's just is a funny part I like in manga and 2001 version as well. I also like to see my first anime crush ever Kyo again! I totally love Kyo and Tooru together! The transform scene was priceless.
Overall I prefer the old animation style over the new one even tough the new animation is pretty cute! I also not really happy over all the VA's in this new version beside that I really like the new reboot version a lot!

Haha when Kyo appeared on the screen I squealed! He was also my first anime crush ;-; It's so nice to know he still sounds the same! I love them together as well haha.

The part where Shigure laughed at her made me laugh LOL. I just wasn't expecting it since it's obviously been a long time since I've seen the original and it just came out of no where. Here she is coming home all tired and stuff and he just laughs at her LMAO. Oh god I missed this Anime, I do hope they make a season 2 as well.

He looking pretty damn fine in that scene cracking his shoulders. I like this version more than his old 2001 one, he looks more bad ass and manly.

I also prefer Yuki's new voice actor over the old one.

I still love the 2001 version and despite this 2019 being a reboot, it still feels nostalgic with some old Anime humor. I can see them implementing new things like smartphones, tablets, etc. to give it a slightly more modern feel.

I was excited to see "first season" after the ending credits, I wonder how many seasons it will take for them to adapt the entire manga.

I'm very pleased with how the 1st episode turned out. Beautiful visual, fluid animation, awesome voice-acting! I hope this quality will be maintained till the end!

I have an impression that they tried very hard to follow the old anime scene-by-scene, which I believe they shouldn't, because it made some scenes feel awkward. This remake should be completely new with their own touch (and follow the manga, of course, which I'm glad they do).

Laughed so hard at the "Sea of Decay" scene.

The scene in which Yuuki turns around in the sunset and the music starts playing softly is beautifully done!

The ED song is nice. Waiting for the OP song. It'd be amazing if they kept the opening song from the old anime or at least use it as background music at some point!

People who think this is a lighthearted slice-of-life anime, be prepared for a hell of a ride!

I can't believe there are actually people who are only just hearing about this series for the first time now...I feel old. The art style is very different and the characters don't really look like how I've known them but I like the new voices and the flow of the episode better than the old version. This made me feel so nonstalgic and I'm looking forward to seeing if they keep to the original manga this time.
