I think you've just been unlucky with who you engage in a debate lately. I'saw a couple of your 'fights' and it's usually in situations where I would have abandoned the discussion much earlier because the other person was just being an obvious asshole more interested in not losing face, being obtuse for the sake of feeling intellectually super and 'winning' than in actually discussing the topic and gaining some sort of mutual understanding or new perspective. Oh Carrot couldn't be condescending if she tried, at least if you know her personality. It may have been a cheeky look, but I found it to be very likable still. Shimarin on the other hand is a bit of aloof loner so I just realized my image of their personalities probably influences how I interpret their avatars. But I definitely felt the Carrot one was more welcoming and fun because she was expressive while Shimarin just looks emotionless/disinterested in that shot. Yeah I think disinterested is the best way to describe it now that I think about it, and projecting disinterest in a forum where you engage with what other people say might make them angrier? So first and foremost, if you absolutely can only play a single game in the series, 0 is the one to go with. Its the best the series ever got in both plot, gameplay, and side content. HOWEVER I really urge people to not make it the first game. The thought of a prequel may sound inviting as a intro but in reality the game is deeply rooted in knowledge of future games with how it plays on expectations of what you know of these characters and how they are so different than what are in alter games. The comparison ive used before that I think is fairly accurate is steel ball run, technically you could just go and read it and you will get a good story out of it, but if you take the time to build up to it you are going to be hit from all sides from absurd amounts of fanservice and love for the franchise and its fans, the amount of callbacks is actually absurd and they are actually meaningful not just throwaway. Then there's 1 issue i think is a big drawback to starting with 0, and its less damage it does to it but more to the other games. Setting aside the concerns of starting with the best entry kind of uncontested potentially weakening the other entires, theres generally just this sort of progression of mechanics and such that slowly define the personality of the franchise. Alot of people are turned off by the originals especially 1 cause it has a bit of a bad rep, but its kind of only comparatively bad its actually a pretty solid ps2 game just rough around the edges, 2 is pretty widely considered to be the best game of the series by many only really getting contested with 0 (personally 0 is much better for me) and really just improves on the first in every way to an absurd degree. Its really up to you in the end but If i am going to recommend the best possible experience for you, starting with OG 1 and slowly work your way up. You can hypothetically start with any of the games from 2-4 cause they all provide massive recaps of the game's plots in movie form (5 and 6 dont for some reason) I dunno i shilled this way to @ReaperCreeper and ha splayed through the first 3 games so far, I assume from the brief talks ive had about it that he is really enjoying them and might back me up on this shilling more or less. Obviously, im biased, but keep in mind I think this is like my favorite franchise in all of gaming and I dont think there is a single series like it. Recommending anyone to skip a game in this series hurts cause its one of the only I can think of where they all hold so much merit even the flawed first one, its an investment of time believe me but I urge against marathoning them anyway, jsut space them out between whatever your playing as you slowly make your way through and you will be absurdly rewarded. If you ever get the time try watching the first 10 minutes of this video (the length is misleading as most of it are mini summaries of each game), it really introduces the overall charm of the franchise, its uniqueness, and partially why its so worth it to play from 1 |

| @SuperRed there's a real charm in seeing how the Yakuza series evolves. Knowing full well that the first game had a shitty dub and some other kinks that later get worked I jumped in and had an absolute blast. Just knowing that this first game still held up so well despite these problems made me really excited to get to the sequels. Also I kinda missed the cheesiness of the dub afterwards. Immediately after I jumped onto 2 and it was astounding how well it improved on everything. I could really feel why it's considered the best. 3 is definitely the weakest from what I've played but was still fun, especially since mechanically it just continues to improve. I did miss the ambient city noise from the PS2 games a bit though, plus the way combat felt. Just a different feel to it, from the limitations of the system. Real hyped to get into 4 which I'm probably gonna do after I finish up with Deception. |
