Fills me with adrenaline. Not necessarily gore, but extreme violence, blood, backstabbing, sadism, torture and cold-hearted killing. They're my favorite thing to watch along with psychological/thriller/drama.

That's not my favorite genre, but some are really good though. I'd say I don't mind watching it as long as it's not only this.

It's not suited for today, so I don't really miss it. The old gore is different from the new cringe gore and torture porn, which seems to be aimed at horror audience more than action audience. Gore in the old ones is often rather hilarious over the top element to enhance action (Riki-oh manga is a fine example). Or look at what happened with Mortal Kombat. There is a big difference in the fatalities between the splatter of old games vs slow motion x-ray intestines crunching of the new ones. One of the reasons I've lost interest in the franchise.

I don't really mind with gore, but it just gives me a shiver when you see a series that has a gore which pretty detailed especially with manga, i mean, it just like you see the real thing

I do enjoys blood and gore mostly because action/thriller/psychological/horror are among my favorite genres. I also enjoyed psycho/crazy characters. And so I do enjoyed the blood and gore it usually brings.
However, it's not a requirement for me to enjoy a show, I just enjoyed it if the anime offered it.

BUT, I do dislike anime when the main focus is blood and gore, or anime that rely solely on blood and gore.

Gore is nice and all as long as it's not the ONLY thing going for the anime or the manga, or as long as it doesn't overtake the plot.

Imma be of different mind here and say gore in anime is usually really fucking shitty. Like honestly it's animation they could do anything with it, but majority is just adding shit-ton of blood and call it a day. Few heads being shot, few limbs getting cut off, but nothing else really there so it would actually be "disturbing". Manga and Asian movies are better at it.

Now for just using some gore for otherwise doesn't really interest me. Works with action heavy scenes, but those can easily go to "trying too hard to be edgy".

The thing is that Anime has minimal Gore (only blood and etc) because they are made for tv and thus aren't allowed to go all out.

They are only allowed to go all out on Movies, OVAS and etc.

I don't mind gore at all to be honest.

Yeah I know most gory stuff in anime is from (old) OVAs, but I'm not just speaking about making gore more graphic here. Inserting every organ while someone is getting ripped apart is all cool and nice, but I also want creators being more creative with it. Actually why even insert any blood, they could literally make some bugs crawl out from the body instead of blood. There's no limit what they could do, beside censoring on TV, so why are they only using your standard blood and mutilations (sometimes monsters and body horror but rarely).

Something like this
isn't really bloody but still manages to be gory. Trying to avoid censorship but include gore at the same time could actually result in to really interesting stuff, movies have for long stepped around to see how much they can do before rated r-18, but nah here we are having our anime looking like some one emptied a ketchup bottle. Actually even hentai could have gore in them as they're automatically r-18, reason why gore artist sometimes insert erotic stuff in their work to get them published, but there's not even gory stuff there. Anime just isn't good for horror.

I'm a big fan of violent, bloody, gore filled anime and manga really. Idk why, but I find it awesome seeing someone being brutally killed with no censorship at all, so there'll be blood pool. Haha. And I think it's Junjo Ito-sensei made me a fan of the gore manga.

This.
I like gore anyways. But if it happens from time to time for no reason at all it eventually becomes a "here we go again". Look for example Blood-C. Saya fights with a katana and she cuts monsters in a half, then what you get? What you are supposed to get: Gallons of blood and entrails coming out.

For example, the gore in Perfect Blue was mostly just brief shots, but it made much more impactful when a gory moment did occur. Fantastic element of a fantastic film.

Hellsing Ultimate is hella over-the-top gory, but it sells the action scenes and fits with the overall atmosphere of the series.

On the other hand, Elfen Lied is an edgy eighth grader's wet dream.

I agree with this. If gore has a purpose, it will make a story that much more memorable. If the gore is senseless, then I tend to lose interest.

Alright, gory anime arent your thing, its cool. but what about works that are mostly story with just a few elements of gore to it example: Baccano! has to be one of the best and most unique storylines ive ever seen and thats comparing books, manga, anime, tv shows, movies, games etc. Or how about anime where the main character refuses to commit violence but his enemies still do example; Trigun. Is a bit of blood a dealbreaker for you? and if so, why? just out of curiosity.

It is cool if there is a little bit. But if the only selling point of the anime is blood and gore I just don't enjoy it.

Sometimes it goes overboard and it's just there to grab your intention which usually doesn't give the wanted result at the end.

I like gore to be over the top and exagerated (like Hellsing and Blood-C). Half assed things like the Tokyo Ghoul anime adaptation are boring. If you are going to show me gore, give me more than censorship and dismemberments.

1) I don't like blood and gore. I'd much rather watch a show where girls hit each other with attacks that shred their clothes without leaving even a scratch on their nicely exposed skin.

2) Sure, I am an adult and can handle some of that in a show I like for other reasons. Like having violence, blood and gore inflicted on people I dislike IRL.

3) But when Attack on Titan ends its first episode on a bloody massacre without giving me any actual reason to watch it, I know I'm dropping the stuff.

4) For some reason, I expect shows that are explicit in violence to be the same when it comes to sexuality. Kind of like Highschool of the Dead does it. It gives a "they live fully on the edge" feeling.
When this does not happen, like when people tell me that women of Attack on Titan are always well-dressed, it makes me suspect these shows are actually just torture porn meant for evil people to enjoy when they can't find a puppy to kick or a kid to steal a candy from.

nocoolnamedanny said:
I have noticed a trend these last few years of less and less gore, and whole lot more of "Moe sexualized preteen schoolgirls type anime". It doesnt bother me that much as i dont watch that garbage, but i am really craving for new material.

Well, times are changing. We don't get much space sci-fi now, because starships seem a lot more of a distant dream now that the space race is over. We don't get much old-school cyberpunk, because it's pretty much here, the worst predictions have not panned out, and the actual problems with technology are more like Netoge no Yome than like Ghost in the Shell.
Likewise, the old age of OVA gore seems to be over. Doesn't mean we aren't getting shows like Blood-C, but it's not fashionable anymore - only people who like that stuff make that stuff.

nocoolnamedanny said:
and if you dont, what do you think about most anime that happen to be violent story wise?

Stories about violence have always been bread and butter of storytelling. It has all the explosions, and secret powers, and conflicts. I like that.
It's just that I am not a fan of good people dying, and do not find blood and gore to be adding anything to these kinds of stories.
I realy liked your response, i kind of have a better idea as to why gorier anime hasnt been shown as recently. I also really agree with your assessment on Highshcool of the dead.

I'm more partial to the hyper violent ova produced in the 80s-90s for my gory needs, though I do enjoy some modern stuff too. Of course anything made by Go Nagai is an instant 10/10 for me on the gory factor, Uncle Go never lets me down.

Were these actioners by chance? There's a difference in action and horror. Gory horror tends to linger on the blood. Gory actioners just stylize their violence and create a beautiful chaos.

Nobody mentionned Shigurui again :'(

If you like violence, gore, blood, insanity, nudity in a realistic way and for the purpose of a good story, you have to watch/read it.

Loved Berserk movies too

Think it's hard to find mature and "realistic" gore/violent anime. If you have names, drop some <3

I'm...................weird XD

I'm a lot stronger than I used to be as a teen....but stuff STILL bothers me. But it just depends on so many factors........

*How graphic?
*What part of the body is the gore happening to?
*Who is it happening TO?
*How realistic is the scene?
*Sound effects and acting

About ten years ago, I watched Elfen Lied. I was grossed out at first but by the third episode, I was numb to the gore.

So I was like "Animated gore? Pffft I'll be fine."

Today I watched episodes 10-13 of Made in Abyss

I was not fine.

im kind of against it, especially in kids anime like naruto. the early episodes were too gorey. like seriously they shouldve died so many times. later episodes became much less gorey. havent watched boruto yet. thankfully one piece, dragonball and whatnot also toned down a lot.

NOTE: im 28 and have a kid, so yeah a parents view on goriness.

I believe violent anime tend to have better storylines too. But storyline is never a big concern to me and violence is never my type of thing, so I don't usually watch them.
I prefer anime to be peaceful and sometimes sexual.

I love me some gore, but sadly the way most anime utilise it is very juvenile and half-assed.
If you're gonna have violence in your show, either go big like Hellsing Ultimate or go home.

I don't mind gore and violence and horror, but I absolutely hate body horror. That is, stuff like torture and prolonged screentime of weird stuff like eyeball piercing or taking their sweet time pulling someone's nails off in detail.

Makes me squirm.

Gore is similar to fanservice. It's mostly distraction and very hard to do right. The thing is, unlike sexual fanservice gore can actually work. Good gore can help increase the intensity by its visual presence. We naturally notice and react strongly to gore.

The thing is, it needs to be done right, it needs to fit the tone of the show and go along with it. Overpowering it turns it into a boring gorefest. Using it for emotional effect is the hardest. You're always on the edge of milking it. Using it as a means to increase excitement is less difficult. Currently watching Akame Ga Kill and I can understand why people hated it, but I think it gets it. It's a silly story about pure heroes and devilish villains. It needs a lot of gore.

It makes me feel good when I imagine myself in the psychotic murderer's position, must feel really good to let out all your hate while continuously stabbing the person who keeps on constantly tormenting you, seeing them suffer and cry must feel really great.

Big fan of gore, though it's always better if it is meaningful to the plot rather than for just shock value. Shock gets old fast. I agree that anime's moving towards the sexualized more girl fad, which isn't cute so much as strange the more you think about it. I've gotten into older anime recently because it's just more serious and violent compared to now.

Anyone have good gory recs?
