It seems I have to adapt to Riko's personality now, it bugs me actually, whiny/crybaby, yet cheerful, easygoing, and also have high curiosity at the same time. So much of 12 years-old character. While Reg's personality seems a bit more 'mature' and composed. Riko Reg is a good duet, they complete each other.

eps 1-3 pace is standard/or you can say 'somewhat slow', but now it become even more slower. Hopes next eps get better.

I like how they casually elaborate on how it is so bright down there. Still, I expect the show to get gradually darker visually and probably tone wise. This episode I really noticed the ambient sound design. The howling wind was quite menacing.

This anime still leaves an uneasy feeling... I hope MAL's claim of this being rated "R" isn't too far off (though I suspect it is wrong).

Dumb girl lost her "down" compass... I wonder if it will be found later, or referenced later.

Again, Regu is eating even though he's an android/robot thing. He has taste buds, maybe he's part human?

Aww, I thought Leader was going to go after them. It's just Hablog but he's awesome too. He checked out Regu's penor as well, seems like that's an incredible feat. It's funny how Regu also needs to use the bathroom too.

That weird colored flying thing freaked me out.

The narration can keep you on the thorns all the time, let's also add to the sad and melancholy moments that are amplified optimally by the soundtrack, in short, another episode all to enjoy until the last. Each episode is a temptation that invites you to see the next one, and I do not even give up the temptation and look at the next episode as well.

So the overall consensus of the adults seems to be "Screw it; these kids are determined, let them go." For as much as I was worried about them at the end of the last episode, Reg and Riko have more survival skills than I did when I was twelve. It also helps that Reg's got that awesome arm for catching fish.

"There's nothing mechanical about those balls, I see!" I am calling the police. Other than that whole situation, Habo seems like a nice guy.

The second layer...no turning back now.

I like Habo, and I kind of wish that he did accompany these two, but I respect the reason why Riko doesn't want him to escort them. Also, why everyone sneaking a peek at Reg's dick, like I think everyone in this show so far has seen it lol

Man, answer me why commenters in those anime YTuber videos keep wishing their YTubers to get laid, lol. Digibro appeared with a female in a video, once, and the most up-voted comments were about this. Same for The Anime Man. The motive must be the same--that all these people want them to procreate. In this case, with Reg, this Habo character must've wanted to make sure that Reg could (and we gotta keep in mind who these characters are written by--especially that in case of anime, they're Japanese... and you know...). I must be thinking too deeply about this, but it must have to with adults placing hope for the future and all that.

Having a walking Batman's utility belt with you sure is handy.

And as I thought, the leader knew all along. He probably figured out something was fishy right off the bat when Reg told him that fake backstory, which was actually Nat's.

They abandon the blotchy style in the later creatures. No idea why they had it to begin with, but the spider is as unfittingly distracting as it gets.

Woah this episode flew by quick. I had a feeling Leader is aware of Riko and Reg's plans, but didn't expect him to let them get away with it. Meanwhile, Habo is downright adorable and such a nice father figure to those two.

Really curious to see what's the deal with this upcoming White Whistle. Maybe a person gone crazy due to the Abyss?

But why did they change his voice actor? Ootsuka Akio was already perfect...

And I knew Leader had to be sharper than that. When he caught Reg coming outside of Kiyui's room, I knew he had to have let him go. It was too obvious lol. Taking a dump in the middle of the night. Okurr ;P

Little bit of a filler episode, but I personally enjoyed it. The pace was slow, but that does not mean bad. The world they've created and the animation is so immersive that I could not get bored :). I think people at the start of this thread were being a tiny bit nitpicky, but I get it if you have read the manga.

Anyway, looking forward to getting the hell out of work and watch the next episode.

Not a fan of the art of the bird didn't really fit in with the world tbh. Still, a good episode think character building relationships is important before shit hits the fan! The second level should be interesting.

Having Reg around is really convenient! He could carry Riko + heavy items, descend using his arm (Not for the whole journey), fight 'monsters', catch food, and basically anything a robot his caliber may be able to do. Combined with Riko's knowledge, cheerful attitude, optimistic and surprisingly good cooking skills, it's pretty possible for them to go down there alive. (Except if their plot armor is not thick as I expected)

The 'easy' part has been passed, it's time to go further down!

Ehh...I still can't get over the fact that everything is set up and made to look like they should be fine since Reg appears to be a relic and 'invincible' robot that will magically lead the both of them down to the bottom of the abyss. I'd like to argue against what this episode seems to be portraying as Riko actually does not know a lot or enough for her to survive, well, though she does know a lot for a kid. The optimism I see will not keep her alive, perhaps motivated but, the only reason she can smile so much is due to her oblivion; she does not truly understand what lies in the depths of the abyss.

I think that letting a 12 year old child with some mysterious robot down a very dangerous path...for the sake of self-discovery and exploration makes for a good adventure anime but there's so much wrong with the situation I don't know if people are realizing that condoning this is basically allowing two 'children' to pursue after their own deaths.

It makes me wonder why the leader and Habo would simply allow that to happen. The leader even gave Riko's mother's letters and I know that he was inspired by her and everything but not fully understanding the situation and putting ur hope in a child and a mysterious creature seems...suspicious and COMPLETELY unrealistic. How could you just allow that to happen...and with no extra help? It seems like the whole whistle system would not allow this kind of behaviour and want children to work up to a point where they are 'ready' to go down....but in the first place there seems to be something wrong with this system and town. I mean they literally train children to basically become martyrs or tools used to expand knowledge at a huge risk...for the sake of humanity? For the sake of discovery? What is the actual purpose? I cannot help but feel uncomfortable if the true intent behind 'exploration' is to discover the unknown...I highly doubt it.

I have many questions and I could just be over analyzing things...I do that a lot.
But there is certainly more to this show than meets the eye and I have a really bad feeling.

Wow, these kids sure have some courage in the face of certain death. Riko is really matured... she starts fishing and using local plants, so they won't run out of supplies. Also the fact that she refused the help of the kind black whistle man - I would have accepted the help if I was Riko. Anyway, what Riko and Reg are doing is pure madness... going down to a hellish place, both of them almost unarmed with any weapon.

Now on the scenery... with those abandoned windmill things... make me curious. Did people somehow attempt to live in the first layer?

The first layer was pretty much a warm-up for things to come. Riko and Reg's relationship was shown very well, Leader seems to have found out about their plot, and Habo recognizes Riko's resolve.

It'll get some time to get used to the creatures' artstyles but it's pretty clever that they were drawn in a similar fashion to the background making them feel like part of the Abyss all the more. They're optimistic but there's definitely fear deep within...

Boring.

Where is the dark stuff that Made in Abyss users were hyped on about? This is just turning into something ripping off of a shounen adventure series.

There is just force field and sci fi stuff they added just to justify the presence of other worlds.

Why hasn't Riko puked yet? And how is that possible that windmills existed more than 4000 years? Existence of another civilization?

We haven't seen the usagi yet. And this is still only worth of 6/10. Where is the good part?

Without change,we end up becoming the very person we hate.

They finally stated how raiders survive in the conditions of the lower layers. So they drink a vaccine to develop an immunity. Convenient but effective nonetheless.

I knew the leader already knew what's up and he probably already knew as well that it was only a matter of time before Riko would follow in her mother's footsteps like Habo also said.

Reg is also damn convenient. They managed to descend to the forest of temptation in less than a day. Looks like everyone has pretty much settled that Reg's a relic of the abyss but there's definitely more to it.
