Sorry, no.

Not only is the quality questionable with streaming, but most of the Anime I watch isn't even on any streaming site.

If most people started to commit suicide , would you?
If most people decided that women should not vote , would you?
If most people started purge of jews like hitler , would you?

What I am saying is that even when the times change, sometimes they take wrong course, and it is to us , people to oppose that change. If we didn't do it, Women in US still wouldn't have ability to vote, equal rights and more.

I don't like to say stuff like that, but... it must be nice to be a casual that only watch seasons.

Well put, but you also have done nice generalization there with people who only watch seasonals ; I do watch only seasonals right now, and I strongly disagree with agreeing to nyaa.se being shutdown ,and paying for shitty streaming sites like crunchyroll is.

Relax, torrents aren't going to die out completely. Even if they did you could still go back to using IRC/XRCC or Usenet or do direct downloads, you don't have to settle for streaming. This pisses me off too but I've found other sites I can get my anime, including stuff from the 80's and 90's (not sure about eroge or LNs because I haven't gotten into them yet but I'm sure if 80's/90's anime can be found so can they). Prior to finding nyaa I used kickass torrents, so I adapted, don't give up.

That's the thing, you can't oppose this cause its still piracy and they're fighting it legally, pretty sure together with Jap government.

I haven't gave up , but getting uncensored , and leaked Hentai's and indie games is really hard if not impossible without sukebei (which was part of Nyaa) Heck I don't miss nyaa that much; I am starting my Japanese lessons in two weeks from now on, so In few years I will be watching and hopefuly reading in japanese without trouble, but that doesn't give me ability to remove censorship from anime/manga/eroge... It isn't end of the world, but it is giant kick into my balls , and I hate being blue balled.

bakabt.me is now down folks. It was available for users only but I can't access it at all. Now I wish I grabbed everything I could last night. I only took one. Sigh this is a very very sad week. I'm no way in hell paying for a streaming service and I only have so much shelf space to store anime dvds. This just isn't fair. I really hope someone will find a way to back these sites up.

UPDATE: Bakabt is just down for maintenance. Should be back up in the next two days according to their twitter.

Ok, I'm going to play devil's advocate here for the "Piraters". I own plenty of anime/manga and have spent more than my fair share for the industry.

Torrents allow people to watch unlicensed anime and gain access to higher quality anime. There are so many Blu-Ray discs that we have no access to over here. We have old, many times crappy DVD alternatives and many cases we don't even have an option at all.

I honestly don't care about paying the money for something like a Cruncyroll subscription. I used to be subscribed to Crunchyroll for the record. The problem is that you'll get much better quality from high quality torrents than a streaming service.

Japanese imports have insane prices and on top of that almost none of them have subs.

Now where am I supposed to find my 30 year old mecha anime that no one wants to license?

IZEROII said:
What people are failing to realize is most of bitching is related to the fact that nyaa was one of the very few public sources you could acquire old pre-streaming era shows which is a huge deal. That content is gone now. Gone. A huge chunk of this very websites database are going to be extremely challenging if not impossible to find/watch if desired. That is kind of a big deal.

It was also one of the only, if not the only, one stop hub for not only anime but raws, games, live action, music, literature, eroge. And on the anime front the OVAs, movies, and specials which very rarely get streamed.

The death of nyaa is realistically a huge loss to the community who aren't, for lack of better terms, casuals.

For seasonal anime, just going directly to the horriblesubs homepage and using magnet links.

For other stuff, nothing as of yet. Much sadness.

There's already plenty of other torrent tracking sites for anime. This wouldn't affect how I watch anime in the slightest.

What actually sucks is if Sukebei is gone, since that was really the only sensible way of obtaining eroge through less-than-legal means. I guess I do have a small stockpile of eroge I haven't gotten around to yet, though, which could tide me over until whatever replacement site comes along.

Fuck, this doesn't really affect CR rips so much as it affects fansubs of said CR rips to make their subs somewhat more legible and/or accurate (or in the case of shows that are available on Amazon or The Anime Lab as well, make them look nicer). Not to mention the manga, the novels, the music and the porn.

Somewhat good alternatives are Hi10anime & shanaproject for me.

Hi10anime however has a serious problem with doing 1080p BDs with lots of action properly, cause it appears extremely laggy and/or broken so not the best site for 1080 ones

It won't be for long though, but I'm getting desperate lately. My sister is watching more anime than me atm. I want to watch some shows during the meantime but now with Nyaa being down I just want to get back here.
And most of the people near to me watch anime through Spanish subs, and I have to watch my shows in English subs to kick off my start on the US.

Nyaa was a great source that I used regularly. I'm just glad I still have a working BakaBT account.
Right, I actually can't buy one of my favorite anime because it's not on legal stream sites, the DVDs/BDs aren't subbed and it's so obscure that it will never get licensed. So yeah, people who vilify piracy can suck it. Not my fault I wasn't born Japanese and can't record every anime for free on my TV.
