Great shounen series, gave it an 8/10. Underrated for sure, I'm looking forward to the second season.

Beautiful anime series!
This last episode of this cour, left a good memory, even if it was a masterpiece of adaptation this anime series, however, has some good; Character Design starting from and ending with the musical part, in the middle are the characters (although not very developed) and the messages that you took to give. Maybe it was eventually lost and has not been so addictive, but it is a good excuse to read the paper work and enjoy the way the whole story. I await the second part to pass judgment more cautious.

For now my rating is 7.5 / 10.

What an amazing series this was.
This final 26th episode ROCKED! Whilst I was unhappy about the random start of a new mini arc the previous episode I can't be fully discontent :p
I mean, as most of the mini-arcs in this first cour they were both fun and thrilling.
A good run for this adaptation of the old manga series, I can't wait for the second season.
For awesome fights and cool choreography between Tora and Ushio this will easily get an 8/10 from me. A shame that the next cour will only be 13 episodes :(

Good series. The kind that we're missing in this age of anime... Less moe and fan service and the plot, character, setting and everything else being spectacular. A testament that there doesn't need to have much fan service to create a good series (not that I really mind the fan service).

A season 2 in when, Spring? Alright, till then.

Sadly this age can't be fixed. As the old manga was made back when fanservice was near extinct.
I completely agree though, if only they can make more enthralling and scenario-wise unique stories like these :(

Neat ending. Although nothing really groundbreaking, I liked the old shounen feel of this show, something rare nowadays. Adaption fits fine in today's shows, considering it's adapting a really old manga. Looking forward to the next season.

Glad they were all ok in the end...well, in some point I lost the interest in this series, there was some episodes that was kinda filler like, and like a Naruto's watcher, I had enough of fillers for a lifetime...and also it didn't "clicked" with me, so I won't watch the 2nd part... 6/10

Was great at first (8/10 worthy),but once the Hakumen no Mono stuff started it really dropped in quality (alteast imo).
Definitely agree. It sucks because Hakumen itself is fairly entertaining, but the whole 4 chosen and such is REALLY bad. Like I said before, the weird pacing doesn't help, but there just was a lot of bad writing imo. All this random sob stuff especially.

If there were more laid back episodes like 24 (Mayuko & Tora's adventure) then it would have been more enjoyable too. Will still read the manga at some point since it seemed like a lot of fun stuff was skipped.

Oh well, now to wait for the continuation and hope for the better.

Very cool classic, old-school shonen. I'm glad we still have one cour left, as I don't want to finish this show. Also helps that it'll be airing in April, alongside one of the best shonen around, JoJo. Two great shonen series in April. Good stuff.

Studio MAPPA kicks ass.
See you guys in the spring!

Ushio and Tora seeing them fighting together is very enjoyable :). These last episodes were better, so I hope the next season will continue like this and Ushio will be less unnecessary.

Regarding the complete anime, it's a classic old-school shonen. All the episodes follow the same pattern and Ushio is always useless. Tora is clearly the characters why I continued to watch. One good point, the opening is well done.

Disappointing series overall. I really liked it at the beginning, thinking it's gonna transform into a beast, but sadly somewhere in the middle of the series, for whatever reason, it became really cheesy, so cheesy I can't go through an episode without cringing.
"Hey dude, how many woman's tears do you think a man can stop?"
Tell me that didn't make you cringe..
*Gather up the harem to comb deez hair

Not only that, Ushio just magically transformed into a saint. He's like the typical hero with "I can't do this to that good guy, I can't do that to that good guy turned bad" bla bla bla.. I don't remember him being that way at all.

And least you know, he lament the fact that he was weak, yet we never really see any motivation from him wanting to be stronger. Oh wait, he did say that he wanted to become stronger, but hey, where's the training doe. Stop crying like a little bitch and work your ass out.

His way of solving problem is also.. plain crude. I am kind of sick (exaggeration) of his voice to be honest. When there's a problem, he would just scream at his opponent, like that would solve a damn thing. If he wasn't shouting, he was beating the shit out of his opponent. If it was for the first few times, sure, but it was that way throughout the entire 2 cours. If his ideal clashes against others', he would simply beat their ass, instead of understanding their point of view. I mean, I don't want to make him out to be perfect, but heck if he's a hero, then make him one.

It also annoys me that the episodic stories were (almost) all revolved around a girl and her problem. Yeah, Ushio can't save a guy for no reason. Ushio saved a guy's life because the guy's sister was crying.

I don't think fanservice was near extinct back then, and even in this series itself, you have multiple occasions of fanservices. I'd agree that the fanservice back then was not as blatant and lazy as it is today, but that doesn't mean that it didn't exist. Back then fanservice was less (or not) censored (at all) so we probably didn't pay too much detail to it, and back then a lot was used as a comedy or simply being brushed off, but now it's more in our face, so it's more noticeable these days.

I am inclined to agree. Not that I disliked only or entirely the hakumen stuff, but episode 24 was also one of my favorite episodes, and one of those that didn't make me cringe at all.

Will still watch the final cour to see how it end. Hopefully to get the much needed Tora backstory then, and then more.

ham barkers/10

It does not feel remotely like a season finale (even putting an episode 27 title card at the end lol), not that I expected it to, but I did expect some kind of cliffhanger or something. Don't those guys know anything about how to end a season???

Even though I was complaining at the beginning of the series that I wanted the "monster of the week" stuff to end and was really looking forward to the main plot, I unfortunately more or less agree with this. I'm not really sure that it was "worse," just that it was... less fun. The more laid back stuff gave it an atmosphere that complimented its setting, characters, and so on much better. Kicking up the drama (and "all the random sob stuff") is largely at fault for making this arc less fun. It could've easily told the same story without being so dramatic.

That said, I have still enjoyed the Hakumen no Mono arc quite a bit and am looking forward to the final cour. It does make me wish the more "episodic" stuff or individual stories weren't cut, though, which is ironic considering I thought cutting that stuff benefit the series and wouldn't at all be missed before I actually started watching it.

Well executed straight shounen, kinda like Nanatsu no Taizai.
Lots of gar animation, oldschool epic/feels moments.
Tora best tsundere pokemon. Ushio moves the whole series.
Some interesting backstories, fun random youkai. Female characters were surprisingly quite capable & relevant, considering the old manga.

Dang. That's annoying. I'm not enjoying the "MotW" arc anymore, after the Beast Spear arc. Sorta like how in the X-Files, they couldn't hit the MotW reset button once they started developing the Mytharc.

Oh, well. Time to check out the manga...

There's no reason to give a rating now when it's not even over.

I kinda wish the whole reasoning behind "Tatori" was explained (it's the episode title), but everything else was good.

Helena got a good send off as well, and I'm amazed she got as much time as she did.

Really looking forward to continuing... I mean... starting the next series...(?)
Life can be cruel and unfair. At worst it can traumatize and cripple you. The desire for wanting things to return to the way they were can cost everything and changes nothing. The best way is to keep moving forward, struggle on.
Anger can be powerful but can only get you so far. Let people into your life even if some of them leave you in time.

Fight. Like. Hell. For everything and everyone you love. Always.

Rip Prof Helena, she fought Hakumen till the very end in her own way. Favourite moment of the episode goes hands down to the comedy scene where Ushio thought it was Asako on fire and then those intensive blushing in the following scene, great stuff!

Pretty nice finale to what has been an entertaining first half of the series, and I’m certainly looking forward to seeing more!

Really enjoyed this series to be honest and while the two last episodes felt more like fillers than actual story especially as the two last episodes of this season, it in general was still a very lovely watch in total

Quite like the setting, pacing, and allround the story development. Was one great anime to watch in one marathon if you ask me!

This really doesn't look like an end of season show, it only wraps up the short mini arc, but doesn't resolve anything of the main plot (also litteraly announcing episode 27 at the end).

Still a good episode, just not what I expected.

This anime is very good, it tells the story of a man who carries a yokai-killing spear and a monster who goes on an adventure looking for other evil spirits.
