Yeah I really hope they're going to end this match next episode because it's already so dragged that it's almost painful. Well also because I'm not a big fan of Kaijo too.

Calling this episode intense would be an understatement. Holy shite! It was great right from the beginning. Kise ran roughshod over Seiren like it as nothing. With only 30 seconds left on the clock, let's see how the match will end. Hopefully Kuroko pulls something out in the end.

The next episode will be the end of the match, there's only 36 or 38 seconds left anyways.

How boring, I thought that making a match something different from the standard "be down by 30 points and come back to win by 1" would be more exciting, and I even said to a friend, defending a lead after leading by x amount and stemming the oppositions momentum is just as exciting, but this series massively failed to replicate the intense excitement you get from that. I have to say, this is one of the worst matches of the entire series.

At the end of the series, 275 chapters (minus a couple for the OVAs) would be covered in 76 episodes. That's more than 3.5 chapters per episode, an amazing pacing for a popular adaptation. I think people really don't appreciate how good the pacing is. When's the last time a popular manga was adapted at this pace? The Slam Dunk anime, in contrast, covered less than 200 chapters in 100 episodes, not even 2 chapters per episode. The last competitive match in the anime was a whopping 18 episodes long.

Well, if you have read the manga, and you've been mistaken before, don't you think it'll be wise to check it up first before claiming that the anime fucked it up?

Looks like we're getting a fifth season, or an OVA or SOMETHING because there is no way in hell you can adapt the last match and the Teiko Arc in 13 episodes...

They can. They will have to rush the last match a little, but it's definitely possible. The last match has plenty of chapters with a lot of exposition and only 1 or 2 plays. If they remove a lot of the exposition, flashbacks and lengthy explanations like they already did for the Touou and Yosen matches (the reason why they managed to cover 5 chapters per episode during those matches), the content they would need to cover can be considerably shortened. And as I said above, the flashback arc is already shortened in a sense because existing OVAs had already covered significant content from the arc.

1. I haven't forgotten anything... mostly lol.

2. That's a lot of ifs.

3. I'm not surprised a lot of people got blue balled by this episode. Marathoning the series would leave no problems, but waiting week after week is pretty annoying when you get cliffhangers thrown in your face all the time.

How would you have made the comeback more exciting? T-mac's 13 points in 35 seconds was one of the most exciting and most memorable comebacks of all time and yet if I want to, I can choose to be a total buzzkill and say that "oh, all he's doing is shooting 3 after 3, how uncreative and boring." It takes little effort to be negative.

Kise was trying all sorts of tricks and moves. The strategic and psychology insights and the crowd turning against Seirin, both served to make the episode more exciting than if it were just purely basketball. To add, the animation, BGM, and voice acting were all spot on. Ultimately I don't really see how you can deviate too much from the 'one team led by a superstar having the momentum and the opposition team being nervy, scrappy and desperate' formula.

I'm not saying that everyone should like this match or this episode just because of the reasons I've offered, but saying that this is one of the worst matches of the entire series is seriously unjustified unless you can come up with a better plot/formula.

9 consecutive cliffhangers coming up later in the season and I'll be more than happy to remind everyone how long the match is going to last when it starts. =) I bet there will be people calling for the match to end quickly after 5 episodes even though there's no manga content after the final.

Yes, the episode is great. A cliffhanger doesn't suddenly erase everything good about the episode. That's just black and white thinking: http://www.theemotionmachine.com/the-problem-with-black-and-white-thinking

People weren't joking when they said all Kagami does in this match is flop around like a fish. Somehow that is good enough to make him GOM level though, for some weird reason.

To quote Kuroko in season 1, when he said Kagami currently couldn't reach the GOM's feet, I'd say much hasn't changed since then. I doubt he even reaches their knees currently.

The pacing is all over the place, animation is extremely sloppy and the number of stills is staggering. And one minute of actual in-show time stretched to whopping 20 minutes is a sad joke. This season's been a disaster so far.

What I like about this series is that I think "man, was that line so corny, I don't even...' and then the rest of characters says the same thing :D

It's a shame that animation is pretty bad for now (but I don't even mind it, I guess it means that the final match might look epic), and this match is one of the worst (I hate the perfect copy theme) until now anyway.

But wtf is happening to Kagami's zone? I don't understand why he can't use it, he would overpower Kise in one minute with that, lolz.

Wow. People keep shortening the actual game time. Looks like people are willing to blatantly lie now to attack the show. There were 3 mins 23 seconds at the start of the episode and 39 seconds left at the end. How you come up with one minute is beyond me. And this guy even said "I fully agree" lol.

The way the minutes were stretched are in line with the narrative. Both teams are reserving their timeouts at this crucial period for strategizing and team motivation talks. Seirin's play becomes more scrappy and desperate, leading to fouls, free throws and more hustle, all leading to more stoppage time. There's an increased emphasis on the crowd affecting Seirin and Kaijou. We have internal monologue from Himuro, Riko and Akashi, all sharing very important strategic and psychological insights. All this stuff adds up time. Even so we have more than enough plays on the court, with Kaijo scoring 12 points in this episode (way more than most episodes) with a variety of plays and also a lot of blocks, rebounds and steals.

Besides, the ending minutes of Seirin's matches almost always get more focus and subsequently more screen time than the earlier periods. Case in point, the last few seconds of the Touou match were stretched out really long as well. Still frames and "sloppy animation" were a staple of last season as well.Just look at any Touou episode that didn't involve the zone or any Shutoku episode (there's one where they just recycled animation for an entire minute) for that matter. Talk about being blinkered. S1 was more than just the last 2 episodes btw. And S2 had 21 episodes that did not have that spiffy zone animation. Please look at the first 11 episodes of the last 2 seasons and objectively compare them to the first 11 in S3 instead. And complaints about the animation in this episode are way off base imo. It's much better than the average animation quality last season. And apart from the previous 2 or 3 episodes, the overall animation this season has been great.

Well, at least no one would be complaining about animation in the next 5 or 6 episodes.

Can you stop sucking this anime's dick and accept when something IS wrong, just because you like it doesn't mean you can't complain, you and everyone else deserve better. The animation is especially dissapointing when we're talking about the third most popular manga in japan and that S1 and S2 had better animation.

When did I say you can't complain? You are conflating counterarguments with calls for censorship. Complain all you want but don't pretend that your complaints are magically shielded from rebuttal.

S1 animation is mostly average except for maybe 5 or 6 episodes in the entire season. I dare you to watch the Seihou match again. And you have to compare the first 11 episodes because you have no idea how the animation is like for the rest of the season. The animation usually spikes up for the final match of the season.

We actually deserve nothing. Just be thankful that the average animation quality and pacing (3.5 chapters per episode) are way better than just about every long running anime series, even the popular ones.

I just read the relevant manga chapters again and I realize now that unlike the manga which skipped over a few plays, the anime animated every single play of the 16 points scored by Kaijou in their comeback. That is just glorious. I'm glad that in a season of 26 episodes, the anime allowed for one episode where Kise dominated Seirin from start to end, displaying a repertoire of moves and abilities. As well animated as episode 48 was last season, I was mildly disappointed that, by the middle of the episode, Murasakibara stopped being dominant and Seirin already started a mini-comeback. Here finally we have an entire episode dedicated to Kise owning Seirin, and to repeat myself, it was glorious.

Also, many people don't realize that over the entirety of a match, we are shown only a fraction of the total plays. If every play was animated like in this episode, this is the kind of pacing we can expect. In fact, it is amazing that we got to see so many plays considering all the stoppage time incurred due to multiple timeouts and all.

And people need to stop fixating on the 4 mins thing. The first 6 mins of the 4th quarter were quickly glossed over so that we could get to this point. The author controls how fast or slow each portion of the match is depending on how he wants the game to flow. The pacing is much more heavily dependent on the narrative then the actual game time. Fixating on how certain portions of the game are stretched out while completely ignoring the fact that sometimes nearly an *entire quarter is glossed over is just being selectively myopic.

*Does anyone remember a single basket scored by Yosen aganst Seirin when they went on a 18-0 run in the first quarter? My point exactly. I suppose that would be considered brilliant pacing by some people.

It's hardly a spoiler anyway, who would expect zone in the last 40 seconds of the game. It's obvious that everything is currently up to Kuroko. And I don't even mind that, but that doesn't mean that this plot armor IS pretty shitty.

It's not that easy to explain it if you don't see it, but basically it's about the 'flow' of animation, lack of movement, or for example lack of the backgrounds, when we have only a colored wall behind the characters. Pretty bad compared to glorious match with Aomine's team, where every move had such a big impact, you just had to think 'WOW'. Or any animated zone, which until now looked so amazing I don't even... I really hope that's how the final match will be animated like!

KnB's comedy is a miss and hit as usual for me. The Teppie comedy with that annoying high pitched captain was so cringe, but the comedy with Kagami was hilarious.

I really don't like this match at all, aside from being dragged out, it's not impressive or interesting in the slightest, there less than a minute before it ends, but yet I don't feel like a lot happened, it was uneventful and dull for me. Only thing I was looking for, was Kagami's zone, and it doesn't seem it will happen :S

It would be a funny comment, if it haven't been mentioned before, that Kagami enters zone pretty much when his tension is high... and now they are playing against another player from the Generation of Miracles, who is also mentioned in this episode as their 'saikyou no raibaru'. Seems like someone worth activating his best 'move' against.

Well... These are the longest 4 minutes ever. The crowd was rooting for Kaijo way too much. Seemed like pity, it was annoying. It got okay by the end tho, both team had their supporters.

This match was so good uptill now but this episode was not as good. It was good, if not for that 24 min = 4 min thing. They overdid it completely with Kise's speed too. Why did th mangaka even elongate it? Like why.

The final competitive match in Slam Dunk took 17 episodes to cover. 40 minutes divided by 17 = 2.35

That's 2.35 minutes of game time covered per episode on the average.

I know this is an anime but how they've made it so Kise can copy everything exactly is actually so dumb and totally unrealistic. It's kinda cool that he can copy things but, being able to copy things that the others from the generation of miracles can do because of their physique just doesn't work (he should only be able to copy technique). He has neither Murasakibara's arm length/ height nor Aomine's natural agility. His body isn't built exactly the same way and it's more like he's just randomly gaining and losing height and muscle throughout the match. It's actually so stupid.

Okay, rant over.

Well you can argue that he actually has Aomine's agility but yeah the thing with Murasakibara is too bullshit. I mean Murasakibara can cover so much space etc because he is as big as he is so it's pretty much impossible to do what he does unless you are as big. They tried to cover it by saying that he doesn't do exactly the same but things that make it seem like the same but still if he could do such things why does he need a copy technique?
For example if he can jump a lot higher than Murasakibara so he can immediate his height then why doesn't he just simply jump higher and cut people all the time instead of doing it as some mimic thing? Why did he need to see Murasakibara to jump higher if it was in his abilities?
But if he jumps higher then that means it takes longer to land and more lost time so that ends being impossible once again.

Does Seirin not have anyone from their school to cheer them on?
Woah, Kise even copied Phantom Shot.

"This is our drama. We decide what the plot will be." Kagami certainly knows about plot armor.
Kuroko will definitely win this for Seirin.
I’m always searching for something, for someone. This feeling has possessed me I think, from that day… That day when the stars came falling.

Oretachi no drama da! Oretachi no drama da! *O*
And that Kiyoshi line steal lol

What I liked about KNB (aside from the interesting plot and characters) is how its humor come out naturally, not forced even inserted in some serious scenes.

This has dragged on for too long imo but still it is a good match.

Murasakibara just eating his chips like

Beautiful end card

Unloyal bastards hahaha.
I agree, I just don't like Seirin. The players are uninteresting except for Kuroko , Kagami (when he isn't annoying) and Kiyoshi. Kaijo's players are really giving it their all- especially Kise. Except for a few matches in the 1st season, I almost always support the other team lol.
