It could be an incredibly terrible voice actor who has lived in Japan for longer than they've lived in an English speaking nation and has adopted a weird accent I suppose.

The bomb exploded. If they think saying things like "We didn't want to hurt anyone" and "we were sure police will find the bomb, because the riddle was sooo easy" is a good explanation, then they are really stupid. I know a freak in police appeared, but after you screw sth up, this kind of justification won't cut it. If they are going to endanger people more, prepare better!

Don't think so, as far as I remember they have issues with pronouncing Ls or Rs (not sure which) so you'd hear the difference when he first steps off the plane and talks.

Haha, if I were Lisa in their house, I would just sit in a corner and do nothing, omg. Way too scary for me. Her cooking was nice comedic relief though, I just hope Nine doesn't kick her out.
Anyone still following the theory that Shibazaki's her dad? It used to be pretty interesting, but I don't know how that would affect the plot at this point now.

Amazing episode though. Our suspicions that Nine and Twelve don't actually want to hurt anyone have been confirmed, and it was so thrilling to see them outsmarted as they were in this episode.
Tbh though, Five doesn't interest me so much. Her chara design and entrance is just too similar to so many other "foreigners" from similar shows. While Nine and Twelve broke out of whatever "facility" they were trapped in, seems like Five stayed and was thoroughly brainwashed.
Shouldn't she and her friend be arrested though for misguiding the police department? Eh, who knows.

And thankfully, we broke out of that pattern of Shibazaki solving every riddle at the last minute. But we still had that annoying "aha" moment with him, which I'm getting tired of. Hopefully he'll acquire a more involved role in the plot starting from now on.
It seems like the Rising Peace Academy is related to the facility, and so Nine and Twelve want Shibazaki to figure it out. Why? I'm not sure yet.

Good transionary episode.

Hmm, secret agency, you really want that plutonium so hard, right?

I wonder how Shibazaki actually reacts to Five being there. This is one big deal cause they actually sacrificed people to lure them out. She knows them more than anyone but contrary to them she is cold to the bone. My bet is Shibazaki actually switch sides after he finds out what they did to them.
So, his methods will stay, only opponent changes. But to go against Five who has all training she got... that would be harsh.

One notice: I don't know if Lisa's seiyuu is good for this role, her voice somehow breaks the atmosphere, she would be good for funny animes but here... I'm not sure.

A new rival?Five?Could she be the white hair girl they've left behind in the facility?
Somehow i have the feeling that Five would have an ambush in the train when Nine/Twelve was going to disable it.
This is just getting better and better.

I don't know if that English is on native level or above average japanese Engrish.

When they were getting off the plane, I thought it may have been above average engrish but the office scene says otherwise

There is some serious development for Shibazaki now, whether or not he will go rogue is the big question for me.

Didn't mind Five entering and outwitting Nine. It sets Shibazaki up with a nice dilemma, seeing his type of character has a strong sense of justice and won't stand for Five's cold method in drawing out the duo

Amazing episode as usual. Still waiting for that one heart-pounding, intense from start to end episode though.

Some people have theorized that the Rising Peace Academy was the facility that Nine and Twelve came from and they want to expose the academy's atrocities by giving hints with bombs, but it sounds a bit too simple and straightforward for me, I hope the actual story line will be much more than that. It was mentioned in the synopsis that Sphinx wanted to 'wake people from their slumber and pull the trigger on this world', I would like to think that they were not only focusing on taking down a malicious organisation, but something more macro, they wanted to present a statement about the condition of society through their actions.
Also, the suffering and hope evoked through the OST gives me the impression that the show is aiming for something very deep, sad and thought-provoking.

I'm not too bothered about Lisa lacking character development or usefulness at the moment, it's obvious that she will end up playing an integral part in the key events of the show sooner or later.

I think that a lot of her purpose in the show within the immediate future will be being the fish out of water character who opens up Nine and Twelve regarding their time in the Rising Peace Academy and their relationship with Five. That could also apply to Shibazaki if he begins to inquire about Five, but it makes a lot of sense to me that Lisa would be used in that fashion. They need to get that back story across one way or another and I wouldn't be surprised if she convinces Nine and Twelve to inform her about those things.

Not to mention that Lisa understanding their motivations could help her comprehend what they're trying to do and become useful to them as opposed to being the girl who is basically rooming with them. I also don't think it's fair to say that she lacks character development at this point seeing as she's in a significantly different place than she was at the beginning of the story.

I agree that Lisa is in a different place now so we can't say she is completely devoid of any development. I have a feeling that she is related to either Shibazaki (he mentioned that he is estranged from his family, so there is a possibility that he is her father) or the case that he was investigating before he got demoted. It would be interesting if she had a connection with both Sphinx and Shibazaki.

This episode wasn't really that special, IMO, until that explosion. Holy shit, that explosion! I thought Nine was killed!

Good episode overall, just kinda predictable. I hope the theory that "Rising Peace Academy was the facility that Nine and Twelve came from and they want to expose the academy's atrocities by giving hints with bombs" is false; that's way too predictable of a conclusion.

I still get the feeling that Shibazaki is directly related to Nine and Twelve somehow.

HEY!

If it was just to do it, be pissed and the bloody fan service.

However, it wasn't like the camera hounded her body and set up the opportunity to eavesdrop and make an effort to be useful. I can go with that but she fails in both regards. The moment of Five screwing with them was what made me get far more interested. May the next episode change your expectations.

Hi! ^_^ Nah, I don't tnink that it is a fanservice, but it was a bit of unnecessary stereotype, in my opinion. First it is the fact that Lisa thought that the only type of help she could give is to cook, cause all girls need to cook... Didn't she know that she was bad at it? And she becomes more and more of a helpless clumsy girl type. I like weak characters, but she is so extremely weak, that it starts to irritate me a bit.
I still can't get over this scene because of facepalm, so I don't know what was after it (seriously, the episode is still paused on that moment ><).

It's a new challenge to me, it seems! I've got to terms with lack of backstory and tried to simply enjoy the action scenes and the music, but now I must get over the Lisa's uselessness.

To be fair, none of the characters are really all that original or even interesting so far... Nine is your typical stoic cool guy, Twelve is your typical quirky hyper kid, Lisa as you said is just sort of stereotypical and useless (Even if she provides a sense of humanity in Nine and Twelve), and Shibazaki is your typical laid off cop obsessed with his job. The characters aren't... BAD.. just we've seen them before in quite a lot of things.. They don't really give anything new to their roles that haven't been done elsewhere except for maybe making Twelve a bit more... Psychotic looking... Also Nine has PTSD which is kind of cool but they don't really show the effects it has on him as much as I'd like. Lol

It is nice there was suspense this episode though... Finally...

I'm waiting for more rounded characters personally. She wishes to show her usefulness in some manner and maybe cooking would be fine. Even if it comes out bad, showing the effort might been good enough to show she cares.

I'm waiting for later, she needs to more, and I know she has a good purpose.

I liked the episode. The Lisa moe stuff seemed a little out of place, but now that I think about it, it makes sense that she'd act like that, and I think in the long run, her being there will really help lend a sense of humanity to the other cast members, Twelve especially.

One point I'm a little iffy on in Five. Up to this point, Nine and Twelve were our antagonists, and there was a mystery surrounding their motives and history. Having a more concrete antagonist in Five might take away from the mystique that's made the show so engaging.

I guess we'll have to see how it progresses from here.

I'm still unsure of Lisa's necessity to the story, but I do like that we see Twelve's more softer side through his desire to help her.

There were a lot of insight into our two main characters in this episode that was only hinted at earlier. With Five's introduction, things should get very interesting.

So, interesting episode, but I can't say I enjoyed it a lot.

From this episode it seems that there are two tropes that this show seem to use.

1) Something I would call "children fabric" (I didn't fight the real name). It's when they put little children in a special place in order to give them a special education. In the first episode they said that they were not like everyone, that they have to try to act like everyone. Perhaps they are much more skilled than everyone or something like that?

2) Another one I would call "trying to fight against the System without much hope". The fact that someone from above made everything to make the bomb explode shows that it might be the case.

So I think it's very funny to try to find tropes in this anime, but for some reason I don't enjoy this a lot. I think that these two tropes are overused and I will be disappointed if my guess is right and they are actually used in this show.

Mhmm, the plot is surprisingly cliche... I expected more from it. Seems like it's going to basically be a "STICK IT TO THE MAN" sort of anime where there is an EVIL government doing EVIL things because they HATE CHILDREN but oh look these HEROIC TERRORISTS are here to prove to them... something... (Seriously I want a good explanation why blowing up buildings is justified) It at the very least had a suspenseful turn this week that made it enjoyable, but ya. I hope it's more than that but I'll keep my expectations low, still fun to watch for the glorious directing, animation and music though.

Ironic episode, as we see terrorists trying to disarm a bomb and "someone related to the government" acting as terrorist. Now this is becoming really interesting.

Is Five really evil? I think she is. The flashback kinda confirmed it. Hide and Seek in Japan is called Oni-gokko, that's why we can assume that Nine was running away from Five (who was the Oni = Demon), probably Twelve too but we don't know that yet.

I can't really agree. I think cliches are generally bad yes, BUT, if they are used intelligently and are supported by a solid plot and consistent characters, then, they are more than fine. After all, which anime of these days has no cliches? Take inspiration from archetypes it's not a fault.

I liked the fact that we have a brand new character that is on level with Nine and Twelve. If not better.
Five seems to trust herself enough to endanger people's lives while Nine/Twelve are willing to go really far to save them, so it'll be interesting to see them clash more.
The fact they're playing with bombs yet not ready to actually see it's execution sounds like bad news to me.
I must admit, the whole evil government thing is a bit clichè and underwhelming. Idk what I was expecting but I'm a bit disappointed.

Well good luck finding a season without cliches.. It depends how people decide to use them and enhance the plot.

I can confirm that in my personal opinion this might be the best anime of the year... Bleh Fate/Stay Night might take that spot.

Fantastic episode. Easily a 5/5

Agreed, people should stop nitpicking at the supposed 'cliches'. If you carefully inspect every single show out there, you will definitely find your well-known tv tropes. It has come to the point where even things that are broad and universal such as rebelling against authority can be dismissed as another 'TV trope', it's ridiculous really. So what if there are stereotypes? They exist for a reason, people have long acknowledged that there are significant trends and patterns when it comes to human behaviour. Nine and Twelve's archetypal personalities are justified in my opinion, both of them have been raised in an abnormal environment without love, hence Nine is cold and closed off from people while Twelve is still stuck in a childlike phase with no real awareness of societal norms.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with using character archetypes as an influence, it's the execution that matters since there are many different ways to play out a particular archetype.

O MY FUCKING SHIT HELL OF AN EPISODE!!!!!

I guess that's my Favorite episode so far!

First Introduction for Five (episode number five, liked it).
We get to see Nine in Action, and i am quite surprised that he didn't died.
Five is the hunter, and it seems like Nine is the prey O_O

Can't wait for next episode!!
5/5 for this fucking amazing episode!!!

The anime is full of cliches in droves and only in that base their criticism, that waste of time.

I think it will have to stop watching anime if they will be crying for things like that that come out each season xD

no offense but I think 90% of people watching here disagree with your opinion.
Lisa is useless but whatever. I love her.

Somehow I feel this will go 'psycho pass' for a little bit.
Your so-called peaceful world makes me bored, so don't blame me if I destroy all of it.

Liked it, was pretty good episode... I am not surprised the two wanted to disarm the bomb, I think it was made quite clear that they do not want to kill people.

Kind of interested to see what they're real motivations are then, as well as how 5 plays into all of this!

Proper English in mah animu? What madness is this??

Not sure I like the direction this plot is going either. And I like Lisa, I really do, but I'm wondering what her use in the show is/will be. If they're gonna put a character like her in the show, at least give her something to do.

I loved this moment:

"Though mountains crack, and ice will thaw

Though walls will fall, to tooth and claw

Though stars will fade, and shadow spread

On the heights we stood, with iron red.

And as they died, they killed the dead.

Now I finally could catch up to these series. Dang this thing is good. Last episode was quite quite messy. I really wonder what their real objective is.
