What's the problem if someone ships a non-canon ship? Most of the time I don't ship the popular yaoi ships (like in T&B or KNB), but I do enjoy the fan art and DJs. |

No development or self growth along themes of being honest with yourself and accepting who you are. Nope, it's all just "we're all gay LOL". The latter being definitely less legit than the first one, tbh. There's no point in bitching about fans drawing/writing existing characters the way they want to, 'cause that's what fan art is made for (even though it can get pretty retarted at times; I mean ET MadaraxSakura shippers? What the hell.). We aren't entitled whatever fan-content fans produce, as they do it for themselves and not for us. Gay pairings featuring a character shouldn't affect your appreciation of said character, in any way. However, misrepresentation and/or unrealistic portrayal of LGBT people in anime (and pretty much every other story telling medium) is a legitimate complaint and might lead to a way more interesting discussion than a 3452764th thread about how yaoi fangirls are uncontrollable & weird. |

I think rather than getting upset with the fact that we like shipping people of the same gender, we should be bothered by the two individuals we are shipping. The pairings we ship will not be liked by everyone, whether it's gay, lesbian or straight. Personally I don't really ship two guys together simply because I love yaoi and I like two hot guys getting it on. I ship them because I think they would make a nice couple based on their relationship. I feel slightly insulted. And I do ship straight pairings as well. I just don't get how people can ship pairings without any hint of romance between, in many cases the whole anime doesn't have a hint of romance and most certainly not a hint of BL. The majority of those shippings involve guy x guy shippings but it would also bother me if people started shipping gay or lesbian characters in heterosexual pairings, but that's not gonna happen very often, unlike the opposite. I find it 'offensive' to the creator to ignore anything he's poured into a manga/anime/character and just change the genre to 'implied romance' and the characters sexuality to being gay. Why not just appreciate the show for what it is (which in most cases is not romance and nto BL) and focus your BL shippingsd on characters who are actually gay? It's not like it really annoys me anymore, I'll just never understand it. |

So basically, the answer to this thread is either "That's the purpose of yaoi, dipshit," or "This is just gay hating. If we shipped a striaght pairing, you wouldn't care!" I say, if two men can shake hands with each other comfortably, they're obviously gay. |

There is actually a relatively small handful of series which I would consider to be true Yaoi. In many cases, the characters are simply placed in BL type situations. If you count the number of series where the characters are actually homo-sexual, I think you'll find a much smaller pool to examine, then is what is often classified as Yaoi. |

It's because Yaoi is a fetish and the target audience seems to connect that fetish with a rape fetish. Probably the same fujoshi who enjoy Diabolik Lovers. Men get pregnant in Yaoi too, because the target audience apparently likes it. They don't care about realism. So I wouldn't say laziness, I'd say marketing, lol. |

fuven said: I used to be a huge yaoi fangirl when I was about 12-14, you know the type. I'm 19 now and hopefully I have matured a bit. I even like yuri now as well, and as a genre I like it more than yaoi (although both genres could do much better). But anyway, I will try to explain WHY yaoi fangirls want guys to be together that aren't even probably homosexual. Keep in mind that this is just pure speculation and based on opinion and I admit that I might be wrong. Yaoi fangirls will probably try to read yaoi. But unfortunately, most yaoi are VERY similar. There is one really manly character (seme) and another very feminine character (uke). These types are present in most yaoi titles. So almost every story and characters feel very similar, and that makes the genre kind of boring. Also, if the characters have sex, about 90% it is not consensual sex. Basically the more masculine guy rapes the feminine guy, who then shortly after falls in love with him, 'he must have raped me because he loves me'. Well not that they actually use the word rape but when other character says NO all the time and looks really uncomfortable it doesn't look right. You can see why this could be extremely off putting to most people. So, when a yaoi fangirl watches a show that she likes that is not yaoi, maybe some show that has a lot of action and adventure, characters who have interesting personalities and actually interesting relationships with each other, this kind of show might be more fun for them. (because after all most people like this kind of show). I'll try to explain using the pairings you used as example and try to think why they would ship them. Izaya/Shizuo - These two basically want to kill each other ... well. uh. This kind of relationship would almost never be shown between a guy/girl or a girl/girl. So I think that might be why? Ok I don't really understand it. They probably think the are hot and have interesting personalities. L and Light - Well ... pretty much the same as Izaya/Shizuo. Except they have to pretend to be friends. I don't really understand this either. Sasuke and Naruto - They have extreme rivalry and angst. Bonding stuff and are opposites to each other. Also if Sasuke comes back they will cry happy tears. This one is more understandable (also this is probably one of the most popular yaoi pairings of all time) Basically, instead of seeing stereotyped yaoi with a seme who rapes the uke all the time, bad drama and flat characters yaoi fangirls probably want to see homosexual characters who actually have personalities, have complicated/unique relations with another character and are set in a action/adventure setting that's actually fun to watch. And there's not a lot of them where there are actual gay characters, since these are mostly aimed for guys. Only one I can think of is No. 6. (this is why I like yuri better, usually nobody gets raped ...) Thank you! Thank you for explaining this damn it! Seriously it's not sarcasm. I wonder though, why the stereotype even exists if it is so off-putting. (Maybe they like it in Japan?) Honestly I have no problem with gay pairings, but with the Yaoi ukeXseme type of thing... And what I dislike (and find a bit funny), is to see that stereotype in characters from, say, regular shonen series. I assume it's just people liking the stereotype and shipping other characters, as you said, because of the lack of good yaoi ones, but the one chosen to be Uke basically has his personality erased so... can that actually be it? Well, whatever floats their boat, of course, I'm not judging anyone's choice... I simply find it hard to understand, and interesting enough to ask. |

Wow I haven't been on here in a while. So much hate for my question Perhaps I should reiterate for everyone. I have NO ISSUE WITH PEOPLE SHIPPING, THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT. Jeez. What I was asking is why make a character gay when they're either clearly not or there was no hint to it what so ever. Again, I have no issue with it, I'm just curious as to why in the first place Also this is nothing like asking why hentai is all about sex because I didn't freaking say why does yaoi have yaoi, that would be retarded. I'm asking where the mentality even comes from, specially since it seems to be straight girls that are into it. Not to mention that often yaoi doesn't remotely represent a legitimate relationship As someone else said it's mostly about rape and stockholm syndrom which many of the LGBT community have said that they dislike, because being gay becomes only about sex and not a real relationship beyond it (I know not all of them do, but for the most part it's dominant) I feel like everyone does the whole "so who's the girl in the relationship"? when it comes to yaoi. Especially if the bottom is the one getting pregnant. I feel like it's less about suspending disbelief and more about putting straight physiology into a gay realm and I would understand why many gay people would find this upsetting. I know also there are probably already gay people on here who completely disagree, but like I said before, it's the mentality that every "hot" guy in anime and manga is gay, no matter what. Yaoi loving girls even fighting others on the point, instead of letting everyone have their fantasy, it's just yaoi dominated and I'm just a bit confused by it. Does my inquiry make sense now? Or does anyone need more clarification? I had no idea people would be so damn offended and shit. I also loved the point someone brought up about how these places where yaoi happens, straight people just flat out don't exist and rarely do women. Like it's its own world or universe so far from reality. Men usually exist in shows that are about Yuri, at least from what I've seen and bi sometimes exists. But when it comes to yaoi, nope, penis for penis everywhere, nothing else exists. |

You know, on the topic of degradation of the anime community, it's really becoming gender biased. So many people who claim to love anime in general, yet all they have for images are either Yaoi material, Yuri mateiral, or male or female only images. So many avatars and sigs that are female or male and not even a lick of male EVER. I've had accounts before on forums that have had female and male characters. But now it seems that the taste that so many fans seem to have has become total shit. It's either one or the other for them. And so many times they have shit reasons for shit taste. The only reason I don't have a female for an avatar and sig here is because I've gotten into only using (Mostly) my own images or images I order by commission. And it's mostly of my character. Kind of feel like I should throw out a bunch of support to him to keep me interested. Which never seems to fail. But I nowadays it's getting stupidly hard to find a user who's image based impressions speak a lot about a variety of tastes. They tell me they love something when I ask them if they like a certain thing (Like Devil May Cry being their "favorite" game series) and all they have are tits and ass on the screen. And hardly do I ever see them even having anything related to the series. Let alone things of say, both Dante and Trish or Lady. Shit, my background for my desktop is an image of both Dante and Bayonetta. They let so much of their "sexual preference" decide EVERYTHING. There's a difference between who you want to fuck, or which two you want to fuck, and who's a worthwhile character to represent you online. |

Usually in most of the yaoi mangas there's a lot of gay guys everywhere, yes, quite unrealistic, but who the fuck cares? In real life that definitely doesn't happen, why us people who enjoy BL can't have excessive gayness in a book or anime? People's just too annoying, mind your own damn business. |
