It may not be the most original storyline, but the anime hardly does any justice to the manga.
In the manga the art is interesting, even if a little disproportional at times and the story has actual character development. I actually really like the art, even if it was a bit off-putting at first.
The characters in the anime only show a minimal amount, especially seeing as this is just an OVA. In the manga you see a lot more and come into an understanding with not only Norio, but all the characters around him.
Sometimes to the point that you completely wonder if the main couple exists.
You see, the manga goes into chapter phases where at times it'll follow the real time and when a new character is introduced it follows their background with their lover (I actually enjoyed these a lot. Many of them had extremely complicated relationships) so we can have a better feel of the depth in it.
I'll admit--this does have rape and I don't approve of it and get extremely tired when that's all there is to yaoi manga. To be honest, I think that's why a lot of people steer clear of it now.
I think it happened about once... Not with the main pairing, either.
Norio, the main character, isn't the typical uke being stupid about how he feels and actually tells Kunimasa his feelings first and has the balls
(minor spoiler)
to tell him that he doesn't want to be with someone who doesn't love him.
(end of spoiler)
Kunimasa isn't the most socially aware penguin and is pretty insensitive (not abusive to Norio) and Norio doesn't want to put up with his apathy.
It's not just the main characters who develop--it's all the side characters, too. It makes it feel like one big family.
Love/Sex Pistols may not be like your typical manga and I enjoy it, especially the relationships which the mangaka, although sometimes not in the best ways, takes the time to develop.
I will admit, though, this does have some yaoi stereotypes and tropes.
I'm afraid that I can't really find any manga that stay away from that anymore.
Sometimes the dialogue is a little... strange, especially when it comes to the male pregnancy, but the relationships are pretty realistic, depending on the pairing, and the characters have genuine self-conflict and problems that are easy to relate to, especially with their insecurities.
If you can get past the art (which, to be honest, I don't mind at all) and the male pregnancy and look at the characters and their depth it'll be pretty okay and relatable. read more

I watched the first OVA of the anime and after reading reviews, people suggested reading the manga first to get a better understanding of the back-story - as the anime tends to jump right in and confuse people.
The reviewers were right. I was totally confused. So before I even started the 2nd OVA I thought I would read the manga.
As the synopsis states; the story follows a high school boy who starts getting unwanted sexual attentions. 2 brothers (of a high breed of descendants) decided to help him control his 'scent' that he unintentional producing which is causing all this unwanted attention.
The confusing part of the manga is the understanding of the ‘animal ranks’. The manga does explain it well and it even has charts and pyramids to explain how it all works but the thing I can’t grasp is that these ‘animals’ have sexual urges that are considered just to be their instincts…but the urges are towards other males?! Also at one stage the Madarame brother states that he only wants to plant his ‘seed’ in Norio and for Norio to bare his offspring, hence his urges towards him…..what the?! o___O
But after getting a understanding of the manga's plot i could start to enjoy the manga. It has it's funny parts and the story has some potential using the animal/supernatural theme. But i found that after a while it started to drift away from the main couple and starting lacking that....well.....'charm'.
It also started to get weird.....really weird. As i mentioned above one of the Madarame brothers was interested in Norio because he wanted him to bare his offspring. At first i thought i was a joke...but came to realise that they weren't kidding; guys could actually give birth AND grow a vagina?!?!?!
I have to admit that after i ventured into this side of the manga i couldn't go back. It just got weird and even MORE confusing. Especially trying to work out who was a mother or father to which child, because men could also bare children :/
The manga also follows a lot of other character's stories. So you start to get attached to the Madarame brother's stories but then have to put it on hold as the manga drifts off in other directions. I found this frustrating and i kept hoping that the story would divert back to Norio and the brothers...but was only disappointed and then the chapters ran out :/
In short: i enjoyed the concept of this manga but i found myself twisted up in the supernatural properties. It's not a bad read but i just hope to inform people to what they are getting into before reading it.
Oh and even though the art is at times sloppy, it still delivers some great panels and expressions (also some hot scenes). read more

animal "inner spirits"--in Fruits Basket, it's supernatural and Sex Pistols has a very complicated genetic/evolutionary explanation but there is a similar feel. Also both have many canon couples and a large and strange family. Though, in my opinion Fruits Basket is much much better than Sex Pistols.
Do note: Fruits Basket is shoujo, Sex Pistols is yaoi.
Both are about people representing an animal. They both have animalistic traits.

In both mangas, people change into animals (of some sort)
Both mangas are yaoi/shounen ai
