Kono Sekai, while it didn't hold my attention all the way through, did end being a worthwhile watch. It has a very authentic feel (the creators actually had a story to tell), and the visual style was quite appealing as well, perfectly suited for the overall tone. Anymore I have very little faith in anime movies, so it was nice to see that not all hope has been lost. I've got a few more recent anime movies that I'm looking forward to watching.

How are you liking this season's offerings? Seems like we're being treated to a number of decent shows this season.

Interesting, I recall hearing similar things about Rurouni Kenshin taking a nosedive after a certain episode. That does sound like a prime candidate for a modern remake. I'll give it a go and see what it's all about.

What are your thoughts on the Rurouni Kenshin series? I'm almost finished with Yu Yu Hakusho and I'm thinking of picking that one up next. Would you say Kenshin was consistently good throughout, or is it another long-running series that gets better in the later arcs?

You're right, we really were spoiled in having grown up on anime from that era. It's funny, the only reason I got back into anime again was not due to any new series coming out, but due to the oldies getting re-released in HD. I think that's the only reason I'm still hanging on lol.

Oh shoot, now I just made a mistake by watching a classic movie. I watched Galaxy Express 999 and it was great! My eyes were glued to the screen the entire time. But now I'm left wandering once again about the current state of anime. How in the world did we ever go from classy anime like Galaxy Express to nonsense like Macross's just mind-boggling.

I'm not too enthused about the new Galactic Heroes, mainly because I would prefer to see new content over a remake, but for what it is it seems like they are handling it decently well. I'm lacking any real excitement for watching this one.

Megalo Box's story has already drawn me in, and it looks to have a unique setting. Count me in on this one. If only this were Madhouse level quality..

Lupin is my favorite of the season so far, it came out to a really great start. Loving the OP/ED sequences and the French setting.

Your thoughts? I'm curious to hear what you think about the new Galactic Heroes.

Girls Last Tour did catch my eye and was on my radar, I will surely check that one out, it sounds rather unique.

Didn't realize a new Steins Gate was coming out. I'm surprised to see that it will be 23 episodes, I would have expected a 12 or 13 episode show based on the synopsis. Why do I get the feeling they are going to drag out the story as much as possible.. Megalo Box looks like it has potential as well, I will add that to the watch list.

Okay, much better offerings this season. Surely one of them will be worthwhile.

Doing pretty good, I'm in an anime-watching groove right now. I finally started watching Shouwa! I was quite drawn in by the first episode and its unique premise. Already in the process of downloading the highest quality release I can find.

I just took a quick look at the Spring season for the first time and the only ones I'm sure to watch are Lupin III Part V and Full Metal Panic Invisible Victory. I'm not immediately drawn to any of the new series, except maybe for Golden Kamuy. I'm finding that I can save a lot of time if I just look at what my friends are watching/dropping/scoring lol. Anything exciting on the horizon for you?

No, not at all. It was just well thought out and thorough.
Huss Mar 17, 2018 2:34 AM
yea evergarden is not good for me at all.
it started out intersting after 2-3 epsiodes
like oh they have this character with bland personality that want to understand other people
like she is a robot or alien
and she interact with others and make mistalkes
i liked that
she developed a little bit
it was slow and good
it becomes something else
i dont want to go into deltils
but i feel like the creators are trying too hard
to make the character relatable to other character she interact with in every ep
so this is the structure of the show:
in every episode she interact with new character. she learn from them and relate to them. the new characters learn from her and see stuff from another perspective because she feels pure and honest.
thats cool concept if done right

i didnt explain my issues
i just said why i like it
or why i had expectations for it
here comes the negatives
so there are episodes where she just comes out of character
like it feels like she is different character if u actually have memory and pay attention
she just started having interests without good and prober build ups
people would call that development, i say bullshit
that is not how development work

i have to be specific
i will say one example
in ep 6 she was assigned a job to copy some astronomy books in some academy or something. she meet this guy who help her as well. then after she copies many books she goes in and describes how wonderful are books, and she noticed that it is special thing that she was entrusted with preserving old books for future generations and how wonderful it is to do it. and they do it in dramatic way. for a normal human, you and me, it would be normal to say that right? but to her and her character and what she has been through, it kinda feels off.

Sorry for the late reply! I somehow I missed your comment! I've been doing well. I'm currently thinking about going back to school for a technical degree in radiology tech. I ended up leaving medical school in my 3rd year (It's a LONG story).

Syria is a total mess. At least ISIS and Al-Nusra aren't going to win and kill all non-Sunnis (Half the Syrian population), but this means the Syrian people have to settle for Assad, who is an utter prick. The US and Russia are both likely to abandon the Kurds because both are trying to woo Erdogan. This means Northern Syria will become a Turkish occupied buffer state with sporadic Kurdish rebel attacks for years. There are honestly no great solutions at this point. It all went to shit when the FSA turned out to be so woefully inadequate on the battlefield and Salafi Jihadists started pouring in thanks to Turkey and the Gulf Arabs (with the tacit approval of the US). It's like Lebanon in the 80s only way worse. Actually a good comparison with the sheer destruction and complexity of the international proxy war and religious elements would be the 30 Years War from the 1600s.

You're welcome and I know I don't recommend it with it's fairly lousy plot, middling action or cast and recycled animations. If it didn't have those problems, then it would be an easy underrated gem like Generator Gawl, which is the final random anime I have to watch for this year's Challenge thread. This anime could have been aired on G4TechTV's sci-fi anime line-up instead of Gungrave, which has little to do with science or sci-fi or the anime no one cares about, Crest of the Stars.
Huss Feb 19, 2018 8:59 AM
angel's egg was a waste of time. i dont think it is a good anime. it was deep or subtle without being fun. such boring show. maybe if the movie was as half shorter i would like it more.
Kurt_Irving Feb 18, 2018 8:38 AM
Good morning! you got some very interesting taste in anime. Speaking of anime, I'm watching Macross 7 and talk about mediocre. If I wasn't watching it for the Anime Challenge, I'd drop it because nobody cares about this anime, but at least I'll update my Completed list anyway.
