| I prefer male anime characters to be visually manly instead of bishounen.. the more rugged and traditionally "manly" figures like onepunch man, Gintama, kochikame, Meitantei Conan, Bleach. I prefer it to the elegant and androgynous bishounen.The more rugged characters embody strength, resilience, and power and as a shounen fan, that's what is important to me. |

| Assuming we're not leaning especially hard into the "pretty boy" look (which I assume is synonymous with a youthful and sleek "generic" male face), then I have to go with that option. The bishie archetype with the tsurime eyes and hushed, flirtatious voice is what I'd generally consider a distinct archetype, and considerably less appealing to most male viewers. Manly and trap protagonists are both fine with me though, since neither of them are visually unappealing, and thus perpetually distracting from the watch. Ugly bastards deserve to burn in the fiery pits of the underworld they emerged from, but they're mercifully rare outside of rape and netorare hentai. |

| It doesn't really matter what the male character looks like, except if he has a generic isekai protagonist design, then I don't find it interesting, but the rest of the character's appearance is ok. |
| Well there's one male archetype that deserves its entire own category- The Generic Male Isekai Protagonist, aka Kirito Clones Even though I hate the cheapness and crappy stories of these McDonald's Drive Thru of the anime world, I actually love the cute black-haired hero protagonist and think Kirito is an awesome character... not awesome enough to make my favorites but if there was room for more than 10 maybe he would. There's lots of versions of him too- they're all cute. But it's ironic- do female anime fans actually like these guys?? I do like Kirito as a character, he's one of my favorite but probably got demoted in favor of Felix (that couldn't be helped) But the overall design.. I guess inoffensively likable, but they aren't ever muscle-guys in those isekais they're always this type. |
