| Maomao's curiousity got her curious about food which led to this episode's case. Like most episodes, she put her thinking cap on and began investigating into the ood that cause all this commotion. Her fascination about food never ceases to amuse me though. Episode is alright. It kinda strayed away from the usual fashion stuff but still had Maomao in the spotlight. |

| Lakan is finally here, with his proper appearance. Though things with him being at the centre would happen in due time, for now it’s another “sort-of” food poisoning case for Maomao, this time due to consuming raw fishes. I mean Maomao specialises in such things, so Gaoshun knows who to consult with straight away lol. Still this being quite similar to what happened 10 years back too made it a bit more intriguing, also the fact that the cooks quite literally denied the use of any blowfish liver or such. But hey, she knows how to get things done, despite Jinshi, quite honestly, poking her unnecessarily, from time to time lol. That man really likes to be around Maomao lol. Anyways, they paid a visit to that official’s kitchen too who suffered this time around… Maomao and Basen at that. Didn’t take much time for Maomao to figure out the actual cause, that being seaweed from another region. I mean that brother, who was quite obviously suspicious from the get-go was the real culprit, so yeah it’s another case done. As for Lakan and his story, for the time being I guess it kind of irked Jinshi in some way, or was it the fact that he asked Maomao's help for that case he narrated to Jinshi. Betting on latter lol. That craftsman and his will case for the next time. |

| The first part of the episode felt really random, but in a good way, lol. It's interesting to see why the guy with the monocle is interested in Maomao. It seems he had a thing for Maomao's mother back in the day. I'm curious to see where the story goes from here. |

| Another really fun episode with some great Maomao moments. Creepy one eye glass dude from last week is back and looks like he’s taken an interest in Maomao after overhearing some people talking about her exploits.. really bad vibes from him. “People naturally pay attention to stories that are interesting” “you always cut me off mid sentence” 😭 man why Maomao always gotta do my boy Jinshi so dirty. No wonder he get insecure about her lol. The pufferfish poisoning case was really interesting and still relevant today. In many parts of SEA it’s still eaten as a delicacy and very much runs the risk of severe illness or death. Just a couple of months ago, my mom was telling me about a lady who went to a restaurant and ended up dying from eating it. Why you’d risk your life for some food I have no idea, but it is a thing Love how Maomao just tests the potentially poisonous seaweed with absolutely no hesitation whatsoever. She’s a riot Speaking of stupidity, killing your brother over inheritance stuff is also a tale as old as time and looks like the case was as open and shut as that. As soon as Basen and Maomao got there and the young master got all suspicious, I knew it had to be him. Case might have been predictable, but Maomao’s faces and antics during this episode made it great. Jinshi bashing his head up against the wall because of how cute Maomao’s maid cafe style greeting was.. don’t blame him at all lol. Yea, this Lakan dude is a POS. Bragging about considering raping a courtesan because she didn’t want you, and “lowering her value” what a scumbag. The courtesan shown in the flashback almost seems like she could be Maomao’s mom with the same coloured hair, similar personality etc… I wonder.. I doubt the inheritance puzzle he wants her help with is as simple as he’s made it out to be too. Next episode should be really interesting |

| Well she found a new poison to try out but it seems the others stopped her experiment. Still it seems trouble is brewing and it might involve Moamoa and a new riddle that needs solving. It was a nice episode as always. |
| Ya of course the Lakan dude is a sleezebag. I feel like he might try something sketchy with getting Mao involved, but she's got enough connections to get out fine probably. |

| So yeah, it appears that the OP is filled little snippets of futire events, so don't look into it too much if you don't wanna be spoiled 3:47 It's kinda cool how everything else here looks like (for most people) unreadable cursive Chinese/Japanese texts, but you can make out 河豚 (fugu) - "pufferfish" in the middle. I wonder how do they sustain a person in a coma. Today's medicine has many devices and stuff, but what did they do? Come ooonnn let her eat some poison ToT lmao 15:38 They really showed this frame for 4 whole seconds lmao. Love it. 20:04 I really like how this part here looks like a shadow play. It really makes it looks like Lakan is someone unpredictable and that he is hiding something. Like a joker. Next episode is "Lead" as in the metal. What volume of the LN are they adapting right now btw? The pacing seems excellent. |

| Lakan's presence at the end was quite ominous there, based on the courtesan that was hinted though, looks like he had quite some history and feelings for Maomao's mother. Besides that, a fairly regular episode overall with another case for Maomao to explore and solve, with an extra dose of weird affection she has for poison-related ingredients. Standard episode as a whole, nothing bad but fairly safe for a series like this for the most part. |
| More poison always makes for a good little detective story in this series! Although this one was quite straightforward, in all honesty. Seeing Maomao trying to savor the poison and Jinshi-san interrupting was great to see. Maomao's shocked face that hurt even Jinshi-san was pure gold. Looks like there's something in the air about Lakan-san here. I feel like the concubine hinted has something to do with Maomao and if so, it seems like there really could be some kind of trouble here. But hey, I won't let myself get ahead of myself, looking forward to more reveals. ED's visuals coupled with Lakan's presence is another menacing match... But, that aside, song-wise, I'm starting to really like it too. |

| The case with the pufferfish and seaweed was a bit random but the second half with the suspicious looking guy, Lakan, is now at the forefront and he wants to use Maomao to solve a mysterious will. I can't help but wonder what other motive he may have against Jinshi and/or Maomao so hopefully Jinshi has someone watch over her if she goes to that metalworker's area. Also I suspect lead poisoning will be part of this upcoming mystery considering the title. |

| @Red I feel like the dynamic between Maomao and Jinshi is getting a bit too one-sided. I hope to see more scenes where he too catches Maomao off guard. On another note, the episode starts with some dudes talking about how a servant girls solved the mystery, so yeah, it seems this empire has somehow never dealt with dust explosions in the past. |

| This episodes case is exactly what I don't like about the series. Consequences are dealt with off screen, someone elaborates a few points about what actually happened and that's that. We're back to quirky, little scenes between Jinshi and our heroine. We spend over half the episode with this fish-murder and it's of no relevancy, at all. It feels like filler. Isn't that weird? As if the Show is just fine with showcasing MaoMao's awesomeness forever, instead of actually bringing a story to a good conclusion. This time the culprit was real obvious, aswell. Meh. Bad Episode, for me. |

| So we got a poison case which was solved pretty fast. Turns out the seaweed that was imported from the South is poisonous unless you soak it in limewater and the little brother found that out and poisoned the older one. It's weird that the case was similar to the one from ten years ago. After that, we get to see Lakan and he's an interesting guy. He's definitely suspicious but that's first impressions. Next episode is the Blacksmith case and it sounds pretty cool so let's see. |

| Maomao once again proves poison is the culprit of a murder case, very cool. New character introduced already forgot his name. More Jinshi x Maomao moments and Jinshi's subordinate proving once again being more efficient than his master. Pretty standard episode. Wish we didn't move from the courtesans I miss those guys, and so far were not doing anything really different yet. The most interesting thing this episode was the monocle dude at the end with a woman that could have potentially been Maomao's mother. Getting some immediate red flags for the dude definitely not a good or bad person, but a person willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. And he wants Maomao to find out a master metal crafters secret. |

| @Merve2Love Fair points, but these are actually good things in some ways. Consequences are dealt with off screen I think it's an interesting setup. She's not a detective, she's just a servant girl. It's not her job to solve crimes, they just ask her for some insight so that they can do their jobs; she's not entitled to a follow-up report from them. She never states "this is what happened"; she simply makes "suggestions" and leaves it at that. Even if she was to take the spotlight and claim credit, she will be making a lot of powerful enemies and (worse) people who want to use/exploit her skills. That's assuming if anyone even listens to her. It's her survival tactic, which kind of reminds me of Detective Conan, where an elementary school kid does everything he can to solve the crime AND not get found out that he solved it. back to quirky, little scenes between Jinshi and our heroine I think this show is half slice-of-life, so these scenes are the main attraction. The same way Spy x Family is not really a spy thriller (much to my disappointment; but I accepted it). fish-murder of no relevancy, at all It comes with the territory of "mystery shows", I think. Going back to Detective Conan, not every case develops the story; most cases are "fillers" and in "murder of the week" format. showcasing MaoMao's awesomeness forever I actually agree with you on this one. The actual mysteries have always been the weakest part of the show, as in it doesn't really make sense how she solves these things (in this episode, "imported from the south"? "soaked in limewater"? how did she find that out?). And she's a bit too good; she never miscalculates, needs help, or learns something new. But it could be worse; at least the cases aren't completely nonsensical. I just made peace with it and enjoy the good stuff, like the art, characters, etc. instead of actually bringing a story to a good conclusion We're only about half-way through Season 1, and from the sound of it we need more seasons to fully develop the story. Take that how you will; I'm in it for the long haul for now. |
| Maomao with her love for poisen never gets old :D. Unfortunately the interactions between her and Jinshi become a little bit repetetive (but yeah, I guess he has a talent for sneaking up on Maomao and scaring her (something poisen can't do) which is still interesting so I'll let this slide for now. But I hope we get some more depth to the characters soon. This case was at least somehow interesting... poisoning due to puffer fish but it wasn't. Still the connection to the old case wasn't made yet? And once again the climax seems to have gotten lost in the pacing. I mean, I am more interested in what's going on with this Sir Lakan anyway but I don't know... it's unsettling this series seems so half-baked at times. Unless really all cases are connected but that would be weird too. But back to Lakan... He gives off some creepy vibes. From the view we got of the courtesan he was talking about I wonder if it was Maomao's mother. At least she looked like her in a way (but that could also be a red herring). But my guts tell me not to trust him... And I also wonder if this soldier Basen will play a bigger role later on. He kind of looks like a character that will occur most often (and let me guess... the fact he doesn't seem to like Maomao means nothing ...). |

| That guy sure is coming off sinister now lol with Jinshi banging his head after Maomao gave him an unexpected greeting. Puffer fish contains tetrodotoxin which can cause paralysis making someone appear as if they are dead when they aren't. Of course it also can kill. I want to comment on the seaweed but I can't for the life of me figure out what species of seaweed that is. Nor can I find any information on processing any seaweed with limewater which I assume could very much be a real thing that causes a chemical reaction. |

| I LOVED this ep. It was the funniest anime episode I've watched in a while, and those lore drops at the end?? We were hinted so much interesting stuff. I love how this show keeps getting better and better, I hope it won't take a dark turn cuz seeing MaoMao sad will break my heart. |

| Another food poisoning case is afoot, and that's Maomao's specialty... The highlight of this episode was definitely Lakan's ominous appearance near the end of the episode, as he said some pretty nasty things there as he told some stories to Jinshi. Otherwise, a fairly standard episode with great humour and a lot of fun reaction faces like usual, with mysteries to solve. I wouldn't say this was a particularly strong episode, but even when that's the case, when you know that even when there's a weaker episode, you still enjoy it, that's when you know we've got a good anime on our hands here. Hopefully things pick up a bit next time! |

- Whenever I hear the BGM played when the poison case was told at the beginning, it reminds me of the BGM of Bakemonogatari titled "syugendou".

| @kuroneko99 Yeah I tried searching with "calcium hydroxide" and "seaweed" but was having trouble, thanks. I've been trying to look into things for every episode something medical and herbal is talked about as a sort of self amusement and for other's benefit though probably goes unnoticed. |
