How would we define golden era or decade? By how profitable anime are becoming, or how many shows are being produced, or by how many great hits we get more often than not and how memorable they become? Less anime is being produced now and has been decreasing since 2017. Perhaps the 2020's would be a golden era for anime, but it's way too early to tell. IMO, looking back at the last decade or so, the 2010's is the golden era for anime. Though it may change once we reach 2030. |

| @deg There is demand, but only for new shows. It's all about experiencing the hype in person/online and being involved in the discussions as it happens, as many people have grown accustomed to/desired to be on the internet nowadays The industry still has its issues of prioritizing output rather than quality assurance, probably won't change for a long time. People need to look at older shows more often as there are so many yet to be watched by millions of people. That's why I mostly gave up on seasonals a couple of years ago cause I can't deal with the stress of continually watching 20 shows at a time. |

| Everybody tends to think of that decade as the Golden Era what they most actively consumed when they enjoyed this medium the most because they were realatively new to it and it still offered them something fresh. That would be for me the late 2000's and early 2010's, but it will be the current decade for those guys who are experiencing their haydays with it now. |

| Golden decade compared to what? If anything, I consider that to be the 2000s decade, which probably has the largest amount of the highest quality series, at least for the 21st century so far. I could see 2006 or 2004 being the best year as far as anime goes of the past 25, or at least, 23 years. And that's coming from someone who still feels very behind in needing to yet watch a boatload more series from the 2000s on my PTW list so there may be many more gems I haven't gotten to or hitherto undiscovered and am not even aware of. And I specify that I'm talking about it as the best decade as far as the 21st century goes - so compared to the 2010s and what we've seen so far in the first four years of the 2020s - because I also don't feel comfortable and in a position either to speak for its quality over more of the 20th century stuff. Since I've sadly seen no 1960s anime series and hardly enough 70s, 80s, and even 90s either, apart from a few standout exceptions. I intend to eventually rectify that, but it's a long work in progress. |

It's getting worse and worse... Now that, from this year, mangaka/animators and many more in the industry are getting more taxe by the Japan government. It's seems hard to get better. But maybe with the new gen incomming... anime becoming more and more popular it will have another golden era. Grandpas in 2023 don't watch anime ( or a very few ) ... | Yesn't. We are arguably getting more great anime than ever before, but thats purely because we are getting more anime in general. If 1/10 anime is solid, and we get about 150 anime a year now.... we would still get more fantastic anime than the 90s even if 1/4 shows were great. You need creativity in order to skillfully recombine and reinterpret existing ideas and craft new ones. It is during this period when anime was unabashedly anime with shows like Code Geass and various cute girl shows; things that just wouldn't work in any other medium and which most people nowadays seem to consider "cringe". |
