I’ve been looking to watch an isekai anime, but every time i pick something to watch I ended up dropping in first 4-5 episodes or not feeling to watch more than 1 season.

The ones i tried or watched
ReZero - Watched all of it and liked it.
Shild Hero - Dropped in 2nd season.
Konosuba - Didn’t find it funny enough.
Eminence in the shadow - Dropped
Mushoku tensei - Only watched 1st season and not feeling to continue it further.
Tensura - lost interest in the middle of first season.
The boy and the beast(movie) - Liked this one.
Gate - Not feeling to continue further.

That's all Isekai anime I've tried and I've been disappointed by most of them, Rezero and Moshoku tensei has good writing, promising world and deeper theme, but i hate the ecchi part of Moshuku tensei so im not gonna continue it. I'm not an isekai enthusiast, I just felt like watching few of them, but if anime only has to offer these then im severely disappointed in Isekai as a theme.

So, I'd like to know what are some anime that you consider worth watching (other than the ones I mentioned) and why?

There's only Re:Zero in the modern isekai age, the rest aren't good or just trash.

You should focus your time on something actually good, isekai is the fast food of anime.
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Watch more movies, please.

Perhaps, this is hell.

It is likely that you won't like this either because you seem to have some bias against Isekai (just like every other anime watcher nowadays) but maybe you should try Handyman Isekai. It doesn't follow the average Isekai formula (plot-wise it does but execution-wise it's different) so there is a possibility that you'll like it.

The ones released before the 2010s are generally good.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

Both are innovative and engaging isekai with an original premise and beautiful visuals. If modern isekai aren't cutting it for you, then you can check those out.

War on Geminar is great. Very funny and the cast is likeable.

Do you like 4:3 aspect ratio and Kawamori's love triangle stuff? Then you'll love Escaflowne!

Tanya the Evil is my favorite standard isekai. It has some uniqueness to it by being set in WW1 instead of that same fantasy setting you always see.

@takamono is Youjo Senki really an Isekai in the contemporary understanding of the genre though?

I know it fits by technicality, but its strayed quite a bit from most trends

Everyone's taste is different, so I can only list my favorite isekai. Here are all the ones I've rated above my own average:

1. Digimon Adventure 01 (02 and Tamers are fine but far from the top)
2. Mairimashita! Iruma-kun
3. No Game No Life (the movie is much worse)
4. Log Horizon s1 (s2 is a bit worse, s3 is much worse)
5. Ascendance of a Bookworm s1-s2 (s3 is a bit worse)
6. Mushoku Tensei s1 (s2 is a bit worse)
7. Isekai Shokudou
8. KonoSuba s1 (s2 and movie are a bit worse)
9. Reborn as a Vending Machine
10. Isekai Nonbiri Nouka
11. Fantasy Bishoujo Juniku Ojisan to
12. Shield Hero s1 (s2 is much worse)

Inuyasha is a proto-isekai and my favourite anime of all time. The Twelve Kingdoms is also very good, though some parts of it haven't aged well. For those explicitly labelled isekai, there's also Log Horizon, No Game, No Life and Problem Children, though the latter isn't that good if you want my honest opinion.

"Overlord". Guy wakes up in the game World and interacts with people/creations, who were made by him and his fellow guild members. He is an overpowered Elder Lich.
"Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu". Guy wakes up in game World as a powerful skeleton knight. Not so good as "Overlord", but it has elves and other races.
"Youjo Senki". Man is killed and reincarnated in other World similar to our in 194x as a little girl. But this World has magic, which is used in military. Fights are nice, sound effects are cool.
"Zero no Tsukaima". Boy is summoned to other World and serves as familiar to girl who has problems with magic. Comedy show with fanservice.

Damn I actually have the exact same tastes as the op of the thread hahaha
Felt the exact same about all those isekai.

My favorite Isekai if you'd like to check them out are:

1. Overlord (First season is best)
2. Honzuki no Gekokujou
3. Kumo desu ga, nani ka? (If you get past the shitty cgi, it has an amazing story. Its a slow start and hard to recommend but its very worth it)
4. Outbreak Company (Gate but actually good)
5. Cautious Hero (Gimmick comedy show thats actually fun to watch)

Dr Stone can be considered decent enough
"Chimp in state of nature never jerks off, but in captivity he does, wat does this mean? In state of nature he’s too busy, to put plainly. He is concerned with mastering space: solving problem of life in and under trees, mastering what tools he can, mastering social relations in the jockeying for power and status. Deprived of this drive to development and self-increase he devolves to pointless masturbation, in captivity, where he senses he is in owned space and therefore the futility of all his efforts and all his actions."

@wizdom224 Idk the world is not unique from any other isekai, characters are randomly written and from what I’ve seen MC seems kinda edgy. I feel like the author was drunk while writing it.

@suneys Nah MC is great. He's the goofiest of all goobers. Him being an edgelord is why the series works so well as a comedy (his goofy chuunibyo catchphrases, his insistence on becoming the "Eminence in Shadow", flubbing his lines on occasion, add the fact that his favorite song is Moonlight Sonata). Then you've got the hot anime girl harem in skin-tight suits that worship his very existence, the mega-hot, brocon, doting onee-sama, and high-production quality for some awesome action scenes. The whole show is an absolute blast to watch, IMO. But I guess there's nothing I can say to make you magically like it.

Seems like you had very high standard (which is quite common with newer anime watcher, please watch more) and dont really interested for generic ones.

So i cant really recommended much for you, since most of them are mediocre. But most pre 2010 isekai always have been unique compared with nowdays.

I liked Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken, Kumo desu ga, Nani ka? and Overlord too, but those are in the "OP main character" genre of isekai, which has been oversaturated.

the well written one? the one actually written for the purpose of creating a good story? because most isekai have the same exact problem with japanese ani manga, which is staying too much to the trope.

"oh a shonen series must have power of friendship, talk no jutsu, everyone become friend, even tho u commit war crime, genocide etc, everyone became friend is a MUST"
"oh a trash harem must end with mc with the main heroine/first heroine/childhood friend/trash tsundere even though the character is gone the entire series"
"oh a trash isekai must have an average otaku/loser that so happen to be OP out of nowhere, 1 hit monster and solo dungeon and ofc suddenly get harem"

the problem with isekai(mostly japanese manga/anime but more in isekai) that they have really shit trope and somehow they must follow and stick with it,if garbage like sao is populer now EVERY SINGLE ONE OF ISEKAI MC MUST BE LIKE KIRITO, so yeah its not about taste like the example u post, its the writing.

I wouldn't really call a lot of these isekai, but they are probably what OP is looking for given they don't really seem to be that into isekai.
