Why is it so hard for a lot of anime to say "in my opinion" when giving their take on something?

When ever I go into a thread people especially negative thread people just can't seem to put "in my opinion" or something around those lines in their takes.

I think it is pretty much necessary to do so because saying "X anime is shit" is inherently more douchey than saying "X anime is shit in my opinion".

It's unfortunate, but the best that you could glean from it is that it's implied. I don't think most sane people imply an objective stance on their opinions when they post on MAL anyways, unless they explicitly say so.

They wanna look badass and tough i guess? but most don't realize they came off as an ass
sure Everyone has right to complain but try doing to it in a way that does not make look like an ass imo
then there are people who just say x or y is shit because they are bored or they actively trying shit on a fandom or wanna cause a war

Even if they add that line or even if they don't, they are surely going to get bashing from the fans for having a different opinion

Because for majority of anime fans that are saying it think this: if they don't like some certain anime then that anime should be worst for everyone.

They'll always say it is 'implied' even when their tone, phrasing and choice of words suggest the exact opposite.

Don't try to argue with them, it's not worth it.
I probably regret this post by now.

The fact that it’s their opinion is almost always inherent. There’s not really a reason to state it.

I don't really think there's a problem with it. Do you really want people to say “I think” and “just an opinion” everytime they had to express something when these are clearly patronizing expressions of manufactured self-doubt in the guise of humility? when somebody say that an anime is bad, they obviously stating an opinion. It just, there can be bad opinions and badly-expressed opinions.

Also title is misleading.

"X anime is shit in my opinion" may sound less aggressive than "X anime is shit", but in the end they have the same meaning. It's not a matter of "implying", they literally have the same meaning.

If an anime is appalling (1/10) to me but I can understand its appeal, I wouldn't call it "shit" in the first place, not even "shit in my opinion".

Eh, but if you say "X anime is shit" of course it's your opinion. That's like someone saying "that girl is hot", so you just assume she must be hot. Why would you do that? You have no idea what their tastes are; they didn't give a detailed explanation on how she is hot, no, they just said "that girl is hot". The issue isn't the lack of people prefacing a statement, saying, "this is an opinion"; the issue is people that can't do half a second of inference to conclude that what was just said was an opinion.

It's exceptionally redundant to label an opinion as an opinion when it's obviously an opinion. It's kinda like the phrase, "I thought to myself"; "to myself" is completely unnecessary, like, no shit you thought to yourself, that's how thinking works.

I have to repeat what several people already said, it should be obvious. Sadly there are some people that believe their taste in anime and writing to be objectively correct, so you can never know for sure if they didn't attach "imo".

Everything in a piece of fiction are opinions. Wether it's Guts being a great character or Kirito being trash, they are not facts but rather very common opinions. Everything should be taken as an opinion wether they imply it or not.

I don't think it is that necessary to add "in my opinion" because when somebody says things like "X is shit" and if that anime is successful of course that is his/her subjective opinion not objective.

Hmm, idk. Don't you think it's already clear that when people posts in the forums it is obviously called "An opinion"? So I don't see why it is necesarry to say everytime "In my opinion. In fact, I find it very sad that people have to say this when stating their opinion.
Also, I've seen people ruining other's fun. When people were discussing an anime they liked, a rando said "This anime is shit IMO" and that came off as very annoying. So whether you add "Imo" or not, doesn't make a single damn difference.

Not saying “in my opinion” when stating controversial and negative opinions in a very confident manner, tends to get more people to react and comment. In many cases, it is a form of clickbait.

On the other hand, if the person isn’t stating any controversial opinion, and not being a negative Nancy, then I think people will get the idea that he/she isn’t trying to be a douche.

A positive thing about not saying “in my opinion” is that your opinion may hold more weight. People may have a stronger impression of you; whether that impression is positive or negative, largely depends on your tone, intentions, and whether your statements are negative or controversial or not.

The only reason why I'd want to put "in my opinion" is to either get skipped over by aggressive people or because of that one certain limit.
Everything not supported by evidence or proper argumentation is an opinion. In my opinion XD
Anyway, I don't find it necessary to "state the obvious" like others said because even if someone says my favorite anime is shit it doesn't take away anything from the quality or enjoyment. The anime stays the same. Say you do doubt yourself after reading such a comment then it could be worth re-watching that anime. Worst case scenario you decide it's still a masterpiece (in your opinion) and you gave yourself a couple hours of joy which honestly ain't too bad in this day and age.
There have been cases where an anime I enjoyed originally came to my attention BECAUSE it was hated on so much. I am very much one of "one man's trash is another man's treasure". I even participate in a monthly challenge where you watch another person's lowest scored anime.

Pretty much boils down to their own arrogance. They think their opinions are absolute and treat it like facts. They're just the type of people that need to get some sun and you should simply ignore their existence.

lol seriously people? What the heck is going on here?

According to some, stating that their opinion is indeed an opinion is the difference that makes someone arrogant and egoistic who believe their opinion is fact. I thought it would be necessary to be arrogant in order to be called as such, but I guess it was a lot easier than expected.

Because it's redundant?

Unless you're stating a fact like 2+2=4 or AoT sucks, everything is only an opinion. It's just an unnecessary addition most of the time, and often it makes you seem defensive about what you're saying.

You know, I'm always annoyed when people started their comment/video with something along the line of "this is just my opinion and it's fine to disagree". Like, wasn't that obvious? Why do you have to point that out?

Judging from this thread though, I guess they DO need to point it out after all.

The thing is, you have threads like the aforementioned, and the same people will be the ones to call out how objectivity doesn't exist, or if anything, joke about being objective. I am not cynical enough to believe that people unironically say that their opinion is simply correct (doesn't make sense in more than one way). Even if they do, then that is prolly just that one braindead person.

Rather than simply "in my opinion", they should add "from all I have watched" kind of phrase.

It's disturbing hearing someone who have watched only like 25 anime say something about "the best xxx ever" or someone who have only watched 3 mecha anime say that "all mecha anime except of those 3 are bad" when they actually don't know the others.
