Are you a no-dropper?
| If you look at my list, you'll immediately know that I dropped a lot of stuff. So, it isn't that unexpected that I don't understand no-droppers. If I suddenly forced myself to be a no-dropper and forced myself to finish everything I dropped, I'll have to sit through hundreds of episodes of shows that I know that I don't like. Now, that seems to be a waste of time to me, but clearly, there are a bunch of people who refuse to drop anything. So, there must be some reason. Maybe they are more picky with their anime so they never start a long anime that they aren't sure of. Maybe they love filling up their completed anime list. Maybe they are just built different. I'll love to know why. |

| As someone who never drops an anime that I started, I’d say it’s more of a completionist mindset. I prefer to see things through to the very end. I personally don’t like watching an anime halfway through and never finding out how the story ended, what happened to the characters, what events unfolded in between, etc. If I really dislike the anime, I’ll just watch it in 1.5 or 2x speed. I typically don’t start watching an anime series unless I know it looks interesting enough, based on the synopsis, trailers, pictures, etc. At the end of the day, to each their own. |

| Everyone can do whatever they want in their free time if it doesn't harm others. But replying to the question asked in the first post and the thread's title, I say that it is kinda waste of time. If somebody doesn't like a show, is bored by it and/or the show is slowly becoming more and more painful to watch, then why bother and waste your time on it, when you could do something else or try out a different anime that you might enjoy watching? |

| I don't like to drop anything. I usually put it on-hold and watch it when I feel like it or just force myself to watch it in the hope that it might get better, which worked out most of the time. The only time I dropped an anime was when I was spoiled on the ending and felt devastated by it. |

| Whether you drop or not does not matter to me. I don't drop because if I stop liking a show I start liking hating the show. For me finding flaws in something can be just as fun as watching a good series. Then again, maybe I only say that because I've never seen an anime series that I really liked. I have fun making fun of anime |

| Definitely. Entertainment should not be chore, it's the opposite of that. Any time you spend watching something you're not enjoying is wasted time that could better spent watching something you like instead. That being said I have a pretty low drop rate, compared to what I've actually finished. |

| maybe some shows here and there, but there are shows like House of Five Leaves and Black Clover which turned out to be pretty good even though I'd consider dropping them early on |
 'On-Hold' is another way for a completionist to say 'Dropped' |

| It's no more a waste of time as just watching anime. We aren't obligated to watch anime, we do this to pass the time and because we enjoy it, which is the case for no-droppers. People like to think "they don't drop shows, therefore they aren't enjoying the medium", which is just untrue. People enjoy things differently, whether it's from discussion, whether it's the act of completing it making you feel satisfied, or some other reason, either way no-dropping is not synonymous with lacking enjoyment. Just because they didn't get joy from the anime itself doesn't mean they didn't get joy at all, sometimes the most fun thing about an anime is talking to people about it and forming your opinion afterwards. I'm not even a no-dropper, I drop anime so often that my dropped list would be 10x it's size if I actually put every anime I've dropped on it, but I can still understand why some people can enjoy being completionist, or whatever else method of watching anime is different from my own. |

| im not a no-dropper at all but i choose to not drop some animes so that i can discuss it with other people and use it as a frame of reference for what to watch later that wont disappoint me also maybe no droppers just have more hope that an anime will eventually get better- and when they realize it really wont they have already put too much committment |

| My answer: Yes I used to believe that completing everything was a ok idea until I constantly burned out of watching anime through that method. If you have school or a job you realize how precious free time is. Such limited time should not be wasted on crap so you can say you finish everything you start. If you do not enjoy a anime dropping it is the best option. Do not consider finishing more anime to be a competition since 1. It can be faked 2. No tangible reward for doing so |

| I don't believe it's a waste of time. A while back, I made it a point to pick up every single anime I've ever dropped and complete them. My dropped list now exclusively consists of old and or obscure anime that are lost media, incomplete, or very difficult to find. Aside from that, I'll finish an anime no matter what. The completionist mindset is generally not common, especially the ones who actively go out of their way to watch any and every anime. It probably sounds downright silly to most people, but there are some who actually do want to watch every anime in existence. I suppose it's mainly a passion thing. I would say I'm one of them. It's a specific objective, and every completed anime slowly but surely contributes to it no matter how steep the hill is to the goal. Sometimes I think newer fans seem to have less patience and attention spans compared to older fans. It might be because of the ease of access to thousands upon thousands of anime anytime anywhere at our fingertips today. Just a thought I've had. Anyway, this next reason goes hand in hand with the first. I never know exactly how to explain it, but watching bad anime doesn't put me off in that I don't need nor expect every anime to appeal to me, and I couldn't care less if it doesn't. I don't need that connection to get something out of it. Just because I think an anime is bad doesn't mean I didn't get any enjoyment from it either. I've given hundreds of 2's, 3's, and 4's that I enjoyed or appreciated to some extent. If I didn't, then it would've been a straight up 1/10. I also just like expanding my knowledge of anime. I've seen a fair bit of random, obscure stuff that I will likely never get the chance to talk to someone about. In that case, I suppose it's fair to say that's a lot of time spent on useless knowledge, but it's knowledge nonetheless. |

| I'm a no-dropper. I see a lot of people on this thread and previous threads say that not dropping anime is a waste of time. I totally agree but for me, if I dropped anime, I would drop almost 90% of the animes I've watched. I'm super picky so I would probably end up watching nothing. To help remedy my dilemma, I tend to stay away from really long animes because they don't seem that appealing anyways and of course, I don't want to sit through the whole thing. I also feel like people who haven't watched a show in its entirety can't fully review it. For example, there are people who bash Steins;Gate because they've only watched the beginning and then dropped it. This doesn't seem like a fair estimation because they've only partially watched it. I like Steins;Gate a lot and I agree that the beginning was really slow but the rest of the show made up for it. If I only watched the first episodes and stopped, I probably would've called it bad too but since I watched the whole thing, my opinion shifted. |

| I feel so incredibly sorry for no-droppers; it's like they think they owe anime something. Things should work for your time, not the other way around. Hope you all don't wind up with a lot of regrets on your death bed, with all that time wasted. |

I'll even add that nothing I'd call a 'gem' has episodes you have to literally force yourself through. Progressively getting better is a natural story, but I've never ever seen anything of quality that started off unbearable, only to magically just "get good" out of nowhere. Ever. |

| Yeah, I don't drop anime. Ever. If a show is that bad I will put it on hold until I summon the willpower needed to power through it. I don't consider it a waste of time because there's no guarantee that the next show I watch is any better than the one I might drop. |
