One "heart" legendary detective of Nagisa isn't enough, so another girl shows up, and it's the idol Yui Saikawa to Kimihiko the detective sidekick.

As part of the 3-episode rule, the audacity to add Hololive's Fubuki and Matsuri I admit is a total PR move to save this show's face that just keeps dropping the ball ever since the perfect Episode 1, and slowly without warning.

Yui playing a Chuunibyou with her hidden left eye, that easily is a red flag enough. But as a case to protect a 3 billion yen family heirloom "Miracle Sapphire", what seemed like an open-and-shut case only gets more contriving with the unfunny gag comedy and harem stuff for a mixture of well-known tropes. As it seems to me, Yui trying to play off as being like Date A Live's Kurumi and Chuunibyou's Rikka isn't gonna work.

Kimihiko is a walking trope at this point, and all the girls that wound up with him is typically what you see as a harem. As it turns out, Yui is lying in a way that only Kimihiko knows, but what is it?

@PecoTheHero @sim04ful don't be lured into Marinate's trolling, all this person sees is perfection, NOTHING is below average in this person's eyes.

Saikawa has a likeable character for the viewer, I mean the character she wants everyone to believe in as an entertainer. She's smart, light-headed when needed and very goal-oriented. Kimizuka has his own read on her, he he did a titanic job of studying the client in search of inconsistencies between the task and the true motives of Yui. There's definitely something about the eye patch judjing by the information we gathered so far and whole sapphire thing might be a distraction.

Natsunagi finds satisfaction in her "after Siesta" life, she's enthusiastic and wants to become a full-fledged partner of Kimihiko. She doesn't have a read on Saikawa because she has no experience in investigations and psychology and it remains to be seen if detective's routine would suit her in the future.

All in all this show still hooks me and as long as there are no noticeable failures in the script (lever of failure is debatable and individual for the viewer) I'm watching it until the end.

Remember how Yui holding tea cup? She holding it with her left hand even her left eye closed.

The dialogue is just annoying with how hard it is trying to be witty. It feels like the author read Bunny Girl Senpai and tried to do that even though it was already pushing its luck copying the Monogatari series dialogue. While it may be more acceptable in writing, when it is spoken the dialogue feels way too long-winded and unnatural that I can’t get into the comedic aspect at all.

It doesn’t help that the editing isn’t as snappy as it needs to be and the music starts and stops on a dime at times.

I’ll give it 1 more episode because of the promise I saw in the first episode, but I have definitely been let down so far.

I don't know a light novel adaptation that has more awkward dialogue and chemistry than this series. I feel more comfortable just sitting in an auditorium full of hundreds of random people doing exams in silence than watching 20 minutes of this just for the chemistry itself. Will keep an eye on if the future volumes' adaptation would be better since I heard the story picks up after the first volume but this is.... sad. The show just tries to sound smart and witty and funny but results to just nothing but silence.

I'm not very found of Yui. I think her character is pretty annoying :/ She's also hiding something for sure >_>

I'm feeling like this detective is just a game and not in a good way :( But first of all, Nagisa is not a detective since she's only carrying Siesta's heart, so I'm not sure how she's going to play the role as the detective throughout the entire series. This is just my personal opinion but this whole thing just doesn't sit right with me and the comedy is not that great either. I'm not saying I'm going to drop this, it's just my score won't get more than 6 if this keeps being this way :( I still have hope that this will change eventually, but I'm not sure. Let's see :)

Wow that Idol was annoying, glad she calmed down cause that would've ruined the episode for me otherwise. Still, the pacing remains off in this show, the main two are bantering and comfortable with each other like old friends when they've only just met, and Siesta's heart isn't a good enough excuse for that after what he told her last episode. Rushing character bonds like that doesn't work.

This episode...wasn't great. I think this show will always have a problem which the author has made. Create an instresting character in Siesta and then kill her off in the first two episode.

It does matter who you introduce or how well written they are the audience will always want Siesta.

^This^
I wish they would at least stop rubbing Siesta visuals in our faces with the OP and ED.
We knew she was going to die - it's in the fricken title! Let us move on to the new characters, however awful they may be in comparison.

And yes, i did read a tiny bit of spoilers.

Last time Kimi had his saliva on another girl's hand, this time....

Is the eyepatch Yui really "playing a character" or does she have Siesta's eye like Natsunagi has her heart? What happened three years ago?) which she mentions when her parents died. She even points at her eyepatch at one poiint.

So she has a song with "Sapphire" in it. Given that creepy dude at the rehearsal, maybe the threat letter was actually referring to when she'll perform it at her concert and not the actual jewel?

Damn, I just realized that the title for the next episode in the PV's are written in Tamil (My native language) along with Japanese and I have absolutely no idea why. I think I skipped the PV for the last episode so I never noticed.

I was considering dropping this show after this episode but I'm curious enough to consider continuing to see if there's a bigger reason why my native language's script is being used in the PV's of this show.

Ok, I am very keen on dropping this. The dialogues try to be so smart, it's pretentious and awful. Yui is annoying, Nagisa is lacklustre, MC becomes dull with every passing frame, Siesta is a dead meme. The story development (Yui sus) is predictable and un-engaging. Cameo of HL members felt like cheap appeal.

Even if the novel is great somehow, and becomes even better later, I am not banking on this anime. I'll put this on hold, and basically wait for the reaction to the next episode to decide whether I'll continue or not.

So Nagisa is the detective now, a legendary one at that. Why? Because she said so, it's not like there are any procedures to become one, anyone can just decide on the get go. lmao

They will probably explain it with some bullshit that Siesta's heart also gave her good detective abilities. xD

I wonder what Yui is lying about, maybe the sapphire is just bogus and doesn't worth a damn or something, or the real one will be in her eye socket? Or worst, it might turn out she has one of Siesta's eyes because every girl could be hittin that body part lottery!

My Love for Nagisa continues to grow as my interest in Siesta continues to drop. I had no sentimental connection to Siesta so really have no interest in her death anymore (outside of how she dies) It's all Nagisa from here on out baby! (unless this is some sick story where Nagisa dies and then Siesta's heart gets transplanted to a different waifu and the circle of life continues)

It was an okay episode though.

i don't understand how all of a sudden nagisa has such a deep connection with siesta. she's had siesta's heart for a year or so - so how come she didnt start having dreams of siesta like a year ago and how come she didnt have any urge to be a detective a year ago?

i would enjoy this a lot more if this didnt remind me so much of monogatari, if it wasnt turning into a harem now , if the pervert/hentai jokes werent ongoing for 20 minutes straight, if nagisa was actually an interesting character, and if MC wasnt some cookie cutter version of araragi + azusagawa (bunny girl senpai).

well besides all this, im interested to know what yui is lying about and im REALLY hoping the series becomes more enjoyable for me. hopefully we can get some extended siesta flashbacks bc honestly i only watched this show for siesta haha:(

What a trash boring episode. It was painful to continue watching this boring crap. It reminded me of the "Bunny girl senpai" idol episode. The pervert jokes are unfunny and the MC tries to act smart but is annoying and bland. Why did I start this trash? It doesn't live up to its hype.
I am a kind person so out of my humbleness, I give this anime a 2/10 rating.

This anime (after episode 2) is more of a disappointment than Archer's character in UBW anime.

The fact Natsunagi just declares she will be the Detective doesn't sit right with me. She decided to become one solely due to her previously-belonged-to-Siesta-heart and that's all there is to it? Quite a weak reason if you ask me.

That being said though, it was a good episode. I guessed it right that one of Yui's songs has the word "Sapphire" in it. I'm still gonna watch the next episode though.

Also, I didn't expect Fubuki and Matsuri to be fully voiced. Not bad.

I'm veeerrryyy reluctant to watch the episode. Okay, I know you lot will scream "if you don't like it, don't watch it" to me, but please I beg for your mercy.

Unlike most other people, I wasn't impressed with the first episode all that much. I expected a detective fiction, but what I got was "I know it from the start" bullshit, which is just plain lazy writing in the world of detective fictions. The animation is subpar. Yes, I wasn't impressed by the sakuga either. The color palette is dull (too saturated). The monologue/dialogue is bland too (I'm using Monogatari as the ceiling of good monologue, by the way).

Well, I do sound like a hater here. But I don't hate it. If so, then I wouldn't bother myself with writing this comment. I guess I will rely on public opinion on Tantei wa Mou Shindeiru's quality from now on. Cheers!

I would have logged into MAL just to read this comment!

But since this is episode 3 ..... the MC is still a nice character. He is not the usual freak out emotional fool that I seem to run across a lot lately. I like his reserved and thoughtful side of things. And that is the end of good characters so far.

Meanwhile the rest of the cast just uses oxygen that someone likeable might need later on in the series. Our 12 year old idol hiding behind the decorative eye patch spent the first 5 mins of the anime annoying me with insipid banter. This is followed up by the bikini buying "detective" not wondering why there are no real guards, nor why the jewel's insurance company (and there should be one) hasn't been contacted, and how lame the excuse of "the police aren't interested with only a letter" really sounds.

Time to go mellow out and wait for next week's episode.

As for Detective's show try the one I mentioned in my Original Comment (Detective Conan), the show is based a lot on the type of cases that Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes) and Agatha Christie (Poirot/Miss Marple/others) used to write. I'm not saying it's perfect but is as perfect as an Anime could be.

I’m really enjoying this show so far, I like the new idol girl, Saikawa, I really like her VA, and her song names are great, I would like to hear them in full lol. I also like that her bodyguards are her loyal fans. One thing I did not expect is the Hololive cameo, I don’t watch any of them but I do recognize them 100% because of my friends that watch them, very cool stuff. Looking forward to next week, I’m wondering if Saikawa made up the sapphire robbery attempt or some other kind of secret since she is supposedly lying.

Yeah, you're right. Detective Conan is the closest you can get for detective fiction in anime media. I know it because my childhood entertainment was basically Detective Conan and Doraemon comic books :D

The last detective fiction anime which I enjoy a lot was Hyouka. I think the author and Kyoto Animation made a perfect mix between the casual elements of school life and also a few interesting mystery cases as well. Sigh... Detective anime is truly a scarce resource.

Best guess from Kimihiko's actions in preparation for the rehearsal and the day itself is it's going to be one of those setup crimes. Likelihood is that Yui possibly wants either out of the idol business or wants to relieve herself of her family pressure. So she's set this whole thing up herself as cover to try to accomplish one of these things, but Kimihiko is better than she expected and is likely seeing through whatever guise she's putting on.
The comment about Nagisa's emotions during detective work though. Is that actually going to come back to bite her, or will she be able to prove Kimihiko (and llikely Siesta) wrong in that regard.

Yh! Unfortunately, that's the case...
Doing a good detective series is not up to everyone, the author needs to make a good mystery (normally a crime) and an MC with a particular trait to solve the mystery but in an enjoyable way. If the MC is a know-it-all the solution doesn't feel good, if the crime is easy to solve the "obviously" feelings are transported to the reader/spectator, and if it's too hard to solve (and I mean impossible hard) then you have the "what a bullsh*t!" feeling. That is a very thin line (but with a lot of creativity space) to do this type of work.

I will evaluate this anime within those bases if they want to be "mystery-solving", let them at least try. I will not expect it to be that high (mind breaking) plot, but at least with a somewhat good mystery and a smart deduction without too much bullsh*t, like "I figured it out because of a toenail that was on the roof when a bird just passed by and the Saffire was unprotected when her parents passed away because of that bird poop! Elementary my dear!". Let's make it simple, ok? -.-

It's interesting to see how Tanmoshi eps 3 interpreted Yui Suikawa as an idol. An idol is often directed by dramaturgy theory that they have two sides of appearance: the front stage, and the backstage. The last dialog from Kimizuka to Yui was "Yui Saikawa is lying"

For a simple explanation: the front stage is a scripted appearance and manner. The backstage: is their real-life appearance.

So what an idol showed on the front stage might be different from what they used to be in their real-life (backstage) attitude.it means Kimi knew the appearance of Yui in front of him was her front stage appearance, it is the same attitude she showed to her fans or when she declared herself as an idol.

As a client, you surely can't use that manner in front of a detective. That's why when Kimi said she's lying, it means what Yui said from the beginning of the case is actually her front-stage appearance, not the real one (backstage).

So that's why Kimi wants Yui to tell the truth about the "actual" case she's giving to them.

Another interesting detail in last night's episode is when Kimi tries to evaluate Natsunagi's appearance on his first-ever case as a "detective". It gives us a subliminal context that the experiences he has for being a Siesta's sidekick were not a lie.

When she was rushed trying to help Yui after being attacked, clearly we can see Natsunagi still used her humanity norms such as kindness & consideration on his first duty. But, Kimi disagrees with her school of thought by saying, that violent emotion is not needed as a detective.

As a detective, you need to be skeptical in every circumstance; remain calm when you decode the clues, and frequently use your analytical thinking to conclude the situation.

You can't be so aggressive or showing too much emotion. Because it could lead to a defeat.

Excited to see next episode!
