Just as the title say, why do people always ignore the rule? do they not even read the warning box, it literally fucking says you can get banned for bypassing it yet I see many people do it on forums, proof :

When I was kinda new to the forums, I saw lots of people doing "30 characterrrrrrrrrrrrr limiiiiiitt" I did it as well, then I fucking got a warning, did it again, got fucking banned, did it again, got fucking banned again now Im literally scared to bypass it again cuz i might get banned again.

Lots of times I just end up adding a bunch of useless bullshit like adding pointless words in between just so I can reach the limit. Sometimes what I want to say is only 5 or 6 words.

This rule is used to prevent spam as far as I know. If your answer makes sense and is sincere I doubt you can get a warning for whatever you said, but feel free to correct me there.
But I agree the rule is kind of annoying. Sometimes what I want to say is short so I want it to remain short.

Since the other thread got locked I'll reply to @Meusnier here
It does not take a lot of effort to produce 30 characters, and you can always add a joke in a yes/no question. Why is it so problematic in your opinion?

It insinuates that no. of chars is a meaningful metric for post quality

I'd rather read 15 meaningful chars than 30 with 15 filler.
MAL isn't some bastion of thoughtful discussion and 30 chars isn't a huge deterrent to change it so its just annoying at times and degrades some posts with filler.

Set it to 100 chars if you want thought out posts but that'd probably kill MAL because it doesn't address the fundamental flaws of MAL.
You shouldn't be asking why is it so problematic. You should ask what benefit is there to 30 chars - why not 15 or 60?

"I really enjoyed middle school." Done. This is how you could reply to the recent thread about school, and the content of this message is still empty. This is possible that some witty people manage to write something good in 30 characters, but close to impossible in 15 characters for most people.

30 characters is a short phrase, which is enough to say something sensible. This is good enough for MAL. Having people write well-thought posts is a dream, and the length of the post will not change a thing. I think that I have been bothered once or twice by the character limit and my post was perhaps 28 or 29 characters long.

Thou shalt not tell me what I should do or not.

I used to try to bypass the character limit all the time. Then I got a warning for it. Was never banned. You know why? I took the warning seriously. I believe it is better to not repeat past patterns of behaviour that have consistently shown not to work.

Posted a youtube video and " some lyrics of the song" then got a message to say reported and something disabled to prevent spamming. I gave up trying to post.

Pretty much yeah. Also there were tons of listing threads going on e.g. "What's your favorite X?" and people would just list something. That's not a discussion.

It's fair to disagree with it though. I mostly think it's good, but I'd personally probably lower it to like 20

Because they come from sites like 4chan, Crunchyroll, YouTube, etc where 15 characters per post is the average.

Not sure about Gamefaqs forums, but it's been quite a while since I last used it.

I'm so chatty with extended grammar, so I don't mind doing greater than 30 characters per forum post.

On the other hand, I feel sorry for those with mediocre grammar that wanna post on forums.

I don't know, I always followed character limit rule but I gotta admit, it's pretty annoying. For example, in a thread like "What's the first Anime you ever watched?" I just want to type the name of that Anime and be done with it, but because of character limit rule, I'm forced to add pointless stuff like "It's the first Anime I ever watched and I really enjoyed it." just so I can post...

There's no need to have political discussions on an anime forum. You should've seen the place before that rule was there. 90% of our reports were about political threads. We signed up to mod an anime forum, not r/politics. I don't get why people defend it so much.

Damn you’re the one that suggested it? You basically destroyed the best threads my man & everyone should have the right to express their true selves.

& what’s the point of having strict rules for MAL, a anime site?

Why can’t y’all just let the forums run wild because it won’t change anything & the popularity will grow even more since sites with less strict rules get more people on their site since they can express themselves freely without worrying about getting a unfair ban.

Just ban the racist & hateful people in discussions lol

It’s that simple tbh.

If you call those the best threads, then that says a lot about you. If you want to truly express yourselves, you should be on 4chan. There is absolutely 0 reason why MAL should be covered in politically charged threads. Everything became political.

Letting it run wild is a great way for it to die quickly. The place would just be nothing but spam and gore/porn all over the place, cause no mod would want to stick around. Then the forums would just be shut down and MAL would be only for lists and the database.

Just banning the problematic users wasn't enough. We did that too, but the problem had to be stopped at the source. New trolls kept popping up and it became too much to deal with.
