Yt link still up.

Anyway, the visualization and the animation aspect were incredible, maybe some peoples found it disturbing at a certain points. The background music was stunning. And it might had a hidden meaning behind those eyes movements.
7/10.
3 mins worth to watch.

If there's any meaning to extrapolate from this, I don't think I can do it. If nothing else though, the artwork here is top notch, tops most anime I've seen. I'd love for a fully realized product to be released with this art style, and I definitely hope Shingo Tamagawa becomes a successful name in the industry.

I'd like to share some thoughts to maybe spark some discussion on what can be taken away from this short, because this is way too metaphoric for me alone to understand:
one of the elements in the intro scene looks a bit like a sperm cell. does anyone else have a different idea for that?
paired with the stellar animation and smooth movements, I kind of started thinking maybe the whole short is about animation itself. Like the director wants to show the world where animation can go. this is super far fetched, but especially the last scene with the crowd kinda feels like that. if the white haired girl is the director or generally someone from the team that made this, it makes sense that she looks back and forth between the landscape that is her project and the people. especially how she starts to smile later. to me that smile looks kind of proud.
certainly everyone else also has ideas on what certain scenes are about and theres still the mystery of why the genre on MAL is "dementia". so keep the ideas flowing!

Not bad, but also not much. Until the last few seconds it was more like panning pictures and flipbook animation. Artsy as hell. Don't really see the Dementia category here, other than it being art and therefore everythings up for interpretation...

Very indie, immersive experience. I like the shading on the faces and the expressiveness of characters' eyes. Not much on the story front though, but it's not that important for short works.

Maybe the title can give some hints. Puparium is related to insects.

P.S. The soundtrack sounded like a "lighter" version of "Kaneda" from Akira OST.

The guy should do character designs or background art since those were amazing and the definite highlight of this short. There wasn't much else to it than those two aspects, but he definitely made me want to see him do either of those jobs in some future high-budget anime movies. Hopefully it happens at some point!
I probably regret this post by now.

This was more interesting and just better than legitimately 95% of anime I've seen from the year 2020. For a short, I was impressed with the direction this went with from the artistic side to the raw, earthy musical side too. Built atmosphere up wonderfully just from the production side alone. I wish something like this would get a proper anime, but its 2020, most people would not have the patience or tolerance for something like this sadly.

4-4.5/10. Being generous with my final rating, btw. The impressive animation aesthetics and visual directing and atmosphere is really cool and all, but something like this void of clarity and words can only do so much by itself.

Unlike the stylish and charming epitome of art in the Gotcha video, it lacks a lot more substance and edge to it that would've made me appreciate it more by itself. Instead it's nothing more than a glass flower on display.

A proper anime series or even a film would've been much better off, and regardless of the fuckshit from 2020, this would've been VERY possible, despite what others here might say about that possibility.
If a random ass TV series like Taisou Zamurai can be made with great production value (though void of purpose), I don't see why not this would not be a thing.

this was very visually appealing with the art style and animation (loved the shading, too), and it managed to fulfill its purpose without any clear dialogues or narrative. the atmosphere hits you right off the bat, and continues to engage our attention during this three minute mesmerizing short. would love to see a full finished product by the creator in the future!

Looking at it from that perspective, maybe he got an offer for a major position in an upcoming anime production and this short is his way of saying: I'm ready for whats coming/I've grown up enough to fly on my own.
He seems to have worked as animator on quite a number of lesser known projects before, so it seems plausible that he got promoted or sth...

It's difficult to rate this thing. I'm the kind of person who prioritizes story over visuals. So this one is not really for me. It had the visuals, gorgeously done characters and smooth flowing movement that matched well with the well-chosen music. The eyes, especially the gaze of the mob, and the last guy's way of looking and smiling were thrilling. A nice climax. But besides these I couldn't see any point to the whole thing, so I rate it as 4/10. Well, there is not much story that could be expected from a 3 minutes thing, so I guess it's just my personal taste that reflects in my score.

I think it's really cool how you can easily tell that the white hair girl (alien?) is native/adapted to the land - the pattern on their skin matches the surrounding landscape closely.

Overall this was truly, genuinely, an absolutely breathtaking experience.

#Puparia_Analysis
Collaboration with Fahimbh
I will request everyone not to downrate it just because you guys couldn't grasp the whole of it.
This is my interpretation of visually aesthetic dementia tagged 3minute short anime PUPARIA which has symbolic use of colors and life forms in it's vaguely divided four parts directed by Shingo Tamagawa. Give this one a read. Link of the official video is provided at the end of the post.
Puparia (note: "plural" of Puparium) means hardened "last" larval skin which encloses the pupa of some insects.

Here,
Insect life forms resembling puparia symbolises "Human Body" inside which Human soul resides.
Skin colored Human life forms symbolises "Intermediate State of Humanity"
Butterflies and final formed creature symbolises "Final form of Humanity/Human Soul"

In case of colors,
"Red" symbolises strength/energy/determination/desire/passion/courage
"White" symbolises "purity"
"Blue" symbolises "acceptance"

Now let's dive into each parts.

● Part-1: Destruction of "Human Civilization" and "Human soul" is trying to leave "Human Body".

Destruction of Human civilization is hinted by "Electric Pole covered by Plants" meaning civilization has become one with nature.
Skin colored human girl resembles "Intermediate State of Humanity" who is calm after civilization and nature became one.
The insect life form resembling "Human Body" is moving hinting that it still has life in it but "Butterflies" resembling "Human Soul" are trying to leave it. Note that end part of the moving tentacles of the insect has same glowing color as Butterflies.

● Part-2: Determination to overcome negative emotions by confronting them.

Again here skin colored boy resembling "Intermediate State of Humanity" has "red" eye on the side of the door and the normal "black" eye on the side of the multilayered open entrances.
"Red" eye symbolises determination and passion to embrace something new which can be achieved by "opening the door" and see what's on the other side.
"Black" normal human eye faces multilayered open entrances which resembles layers of negative human emotions like anxiety, fear, anger and chaos holding him back.
However he confronts those emotions in the form of moth shaped insect resembling "puparia" which was coming towards him through those layers of open entrances.
Note that the eye color of that moth shaped insect changes to red with time meaning he overcomed through those negative emotions by confronting them and achieved determination/passion to open the door.

● Part-3: "Human Soul" finally leaves "Human Body" and "Intermediate State of Humanity" shows the direction towards it's final form.

Background showed fused "puparia" which aren't moving and are lifeless.
Thus "Human Soul" has finally left "Human Body" leaving it lifeless.
Skin colored human girl resembling "Intermediate State of Humanity" shows the direction towards it's final form with passion. Note that the girl is wearing "red" dress.

● Part-4: Final form of "Humanity/Human Soul" after metamorphosis.

Final form of Humanity/Human Soul was resembled by the life form that has the skin color of "White" and "Blue" and eye color of "Red" and "Blue" which is accompanied by "red fox" that is considered as "guardian spirit" and surrounded by "Blue Butterflies" resembling scattered souls.
"White" symbolises "Purity"
"Red" symbolises "Determination/Passion"
"Blue" symbolises "Acceptance"
Acceptance of all Humanity regardless of age, sex, race, nationality, religion and profession which is shown through countless human faces.
Note that now all the human faces are "expressionless" and "devoid of skin color" staring at it's final form that has the color of "purity and acceptance"
Metamorphosed final form of Humanity looks back at them and "smiles" showing "expression"
Thus Humanity went through metamorphosis and came out of it's PUPARIA.
My personal rating: 9/10

The quality of this work is unquestionable. The main question is the story. While watching it randomly throughout the past few months it has become more and more clear what is being said. The visuals and expressions, as Tamagawa explains in the interview released today are easy to read like in most anime. This really helps get the feeling across to the audience. The finer details I saw people pointing out were the colors. If you think of them in terms of the right and left brain they made a lot of sense. I was struck by the character who had a red eye on the left and a blue eye on the right. This lines up with the way the eyes connect to opposite hemispheres. Furthermore if we look at the state of anthropology in the west we can find a conundrum between different schools of critical thought. Multinaturalism finds a multiplicity of realities around us by looking at what some would call primitive societies. They view reality in a different way. Im not sure how the east sees it exactly but I am aware of some animism there. In the west one version of reality has seemed to dominated others. Some sort of cosmopolitanism. I think that the apathetic but yearning and alert faces of the characters that reflect the director represents a lot of how people feel today. Like he said in the interview the things that hold us together are becoming less clear. He wanted to give a feeling of being supported, and I think this is what makes the whole short meaningful. The character "covered in symbols" represents these lost worlds that are right in front of us, along with the chrysalis owl looking creature and the slug looking creature at the start. The character seems to go through a realization of what all the people are there for when they turn to look and then looks back at the crowd with a knowing smile. The new aeon has arrived of the crowned and conquering child.

I usually have a good idea what the thing is about even with most obscure works. This thing didn't try to be overly obscure or hide behind anything but somehow I have no idea what it was about. Partially because I was mesmerised by how beautiful it was. It definitely sincirely succeedes in delivering pure emotions. I will watch it again to get the better grasp and unlike with most of the artsy shorts, I will do it with pleasure.
Got it.
