Why do I get the feeling that the one who was actually stabbing was Keichi and not Rena? I did not watch the OG series (and don't plan to), but I loved this episode.

Definetly one of my fav of this season. Either Keichi has gone mad or everyone in Hinamizawa is crazy / cursed. Their parents being in Tokyo for a night is also very convenient.

Can't wait for the next episode.

***First - timer

Well, that was quick to the point.
Previously, I thought this is going to be like a Battle Royale episode. Well, It indeed was one of them. But, Then why are Mion and Keiichi both alive? It kind of fails the battle royale concept itself as only one should be alive.

The next episodes are going to build on who actually was the temple killer most probably.

Well, Who knows and who actually killed Rena. I suspect it was the older rika, but that is all I can suspect, but why would she kill her younger self is something I can't get over?
Maybe she doesn't need her younger self to escape this timeline, I think.

But, Damn, The censoring was pretty useful here, Man!

Ahh blood, this is why I love higurashi bummer that the knifing was censored :c . Tho I hardly doubt any human would be able to survive that much stabbing lol.
But overall good episode. I am so glad this anime is back. People shouldn't confuse it with being a remake anymore. This episode definitely confirmed that its a sequel.

This is why Gou is not a good starting point. You're supposed to be watching this while knowing what happened originally so the Damashi arcs can pull the rug from under you and go haha jape it's actually different!

Holy crap, best episode so far. Despite the slight censorship (which was pretty funny), this gave me chills. Passione is going all out and the animation was at a peak. I was worried about the slow burn in the beginning but I suppose it paid of extremely good imo. Probably a new timeline next episode, but my god I’m so excited for next week’s episode. Thinking about it now, the ending song scene rings even more true with this episode. If the episode keep being as good as this one (even if it isn’t a bloodbath), this could turn out amazing. Personally I’ve enjoyed it a lot but this episode took it to another level.

Okay, I think I get the drift of this season now.

It's called Karma because the characters are getting their due for what they did in their previous respective arcs.

IE instead of Keiichi going all murdery with the baseball bat, he instead got stabbed by the murder-filled Rena.

I'm real interested in finding out how that could play into Watanagashi since Meakashi was kind of already that. Either way I'm excited for it.

The direction and tone in this new Higurashi have been terrible as a whole but this has been the absolute worst episode so far. Absolutely laughable instead of serious. I'm not even a particularly big fan of the original anime, it's a meh adaptation of a fantastic sound novel, but it at least gets the tone right.

I don't know if I may classify Rena's berserk stabbing spree as comedy or not.
Because I might upset people and hurt their feelings if I do for having a different opinion.

Interesting that both Satoko-chan and Rika-chan were taken down too, what's the story behind that I wonder...

Good lord, this is horrifying. 61 stabs, what the bloody heck?

Strangely, a part of me has slowly accepted the fact that Keichii surviving that is possible now. But again, the possibility that it was all in the head isn't far-fetched either.

Ryukishi-sensei 'bout to take us for another ride here.

@Syureria I totally get you, I didn't sleep until sunrise for a few days and keep a close on the door of my room after binge-ing the Deen version earlier this Spring xD.

More likely a completely new series.

It's neither a remake nor a sequel. It's a story completely written from the scratch. It's confirmed by their Twitter handle. Here's the English Translation

WHAT THE FUCK! I wasn't expecting that. These dates have to be important somehow. Time travel???

This show is so good at building tension, that scene with Keiichi contemplating whether to let Rena in was done so well. Her cute and innocent voice being juxtaposed with the loud thump her banging the door was amazing. The sinister OST playing behind that scene help create that tense and scary atmosphere.

Doubt can be seen as a weakness but it can also be a strength, it can help you get out of dangerous situations. If it wasn't for the weird talk with Rika, I don't think Keiichi would Rena in. Keiichi should have trusted his gut.

Plus the tv foreshadowing Rena's sinister actions was a nice touch.

Rena's psychotic break was thrilling and confusing. Was she killing Keiichi so that Oyashiro-sama wouldn't curse her dad or was killing Keiichi because he was the one that Oyashiro was going to curse? Why would she want to be demoned away?

Rena's VA was amazing- her ability to switch from that cutesy, innocent voice/persona to a more sinister, psychotic persona/voice is great.

There was so much blood, I generally thought this was going to be a nightmare sequence but it just kept going on and on. I don't know how Keiichi survived that attack. SO MUCH BLOOD!

Keiichi keeps seeing flashes of memories that can't from his timeline. Are alternative timeline memories blending together?

Can't wait for the next week. Hopefully, we get some answers.

The studio censored the stabbing but not the blood bath? Bruh

Also the stabbing scene is just so weird, I can buy that he survived the many stabs long enough to kill her, but he should have died shortly afterward

HOLY CRAP

The ending is sooo much more different than the original. In the original, Keichi was the one who murdered Rena(as we see in the alternate memory).

MAJOR SPOILERS here on out if you are watching this anime first:

For those who are watching this anime first, yes, Keichi dies at the end of the episode. Every time Keichi dies, the anime moves on to the next arc. The next arc is the Watadamashi-hen, a variation of the Watanagashi-hen from the original.

Overall great episode. Definitely getting interesting. 5/5

This episode was just so comical in both good and bad ways and unfortunately for me it's more so the latter. While the few "jumpscare" stares were pretty nice for what they were, the whole sequence itself with the stabbing shit and all was probably one of the silliest and most offensive things I've seen this year in anime.

I love how they've subverted the original first story arc (Rika, you should have known better.) I've enjoyed this anime so much - up until the actual murder scene where I was laughing my ass off. They tried to make it so scary and it ended up so stupid. I hope the following arcs get more emotional murder scenes, because this one just lacked the impact.

Also, I'm very curious about what was happening at the clinic.

Edit: Ah, this episode might have actually been a big old case of
hence the exaggerated stabby scene...

Offensive??? What is your problem exactly wtf?
You haven't ever tried to think that """maybe""" that whole scene is deliberately exaggerated to shock and give clues as to what is going on (since many are speculating based on it).
BUT YEAH IT WAS SO OFFENSIVE

Why is everyone so incredibly stupid when talking about the stabbing scene, as if they've never watched or read Higurashi before? I could understand it if you were a first-timer, but anyone who knows about Higurashi should already know that things are never like they seem.

The scene wasn't badly directed or unintentional comedy or anything. It was exaggerated to confuse you and it obviously worked. Why are you so sure that the scene happened exactly like that?

What I love about the first arc or higurashi was how it never openly said Rena wanted to kill Keechi, so you could sort of interpret it as Keechi going made from paranoia but this one is a lot but blunt about it.

Also what's the point in censoring the stab wound and not the piles of blood? Seems kind of point less lol

Also unless Ryukishi07 is pulling some sort of trick one us Keechi should of gone into shock because of all the blood loss
