He spends many months just working as a wage worker with an equally useless goddess Aqua. He is quite relatable. |

| Oh yes, the guy from Re:creators. I didn't watch the full show I dropped it a bit after the middle, but at least until that point the guy has almost no impact at all eve though he is technically the protag of this story. Then there are case like Sakurai from sora no otoshimono. Not only useless, but by his sheer presence he drags down the story in the gutter and stops it from going anywhere interesting. So worse than useless, as it feels like the story would actually go somewhere without him, so he's like a massive dead weight for the story. |

| People here have a very particular definition of useless. Some listed harmful characters, aka not useless. Worse, but not useless. Useless = no use aka if you remove them, nothing changes. Removing a harmful character would do good instead. Some listed some weak characters, still not useless. They have a purpose and actually do something. Some listed some characters that are blank for some reason, like amnesia or being a soulless homunculus (let's add that because someone will mention Sieg from Apocrypha let's face it). Still not useless since they always end doing something and actually have the chance to improve with an infinity factor by developing their personality from zero (and in the case of Sieg, fully succeed). Very few actually useless characters. To be fair, I can't really think of a protagonist being completely useless outside of comedy anime. And outside of comedy anime, most useless characters are comedy-relief characters anyway. And often they're useless only for a brief amount of episodes at the start. Take Steph from No Game No Life, she's completely useless but she does a useful thing in a latter episode so technically she's not useless anymore. Mod edit: Removed backseat modding. | It's strange that nobody has mentioned Bam from Tower of God. The first season just finished and I don't recall him doing anything proactive or useful for the entire show. Maybe he might do more in season 2 but as it stands now, he is the definition of useless. |
