Animation production and distribution company Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures opened an official website for a TV anime adaptation of Sakon Kaidou and Taiki's sci-fi fantasy light novel Infinite Dendrogram on Thursday. The anime series is commemorating the 50th anniversary of Hobby Japan, the light novel's publisher.

Synopsis
In the year 2043, <Infinite Dendrogram>, the world's first successful full-dive VRMMO was released. In addition to its ability to perfectly simulate the five senses, along with its many other amazing features, the game promised to offer players a world full of infinite possibilities. Nearly two years later, soon-to-be college freshman, Reiji Mukudori, is finally able to buy a copy of the game and start playing. With some help from his experienced older brother, Shuu, and his partner Embryo, Reiji embarks on an adventure into the world of <Infinite Dendrogram>. Just what will he discover and encounter in this game world known for its incredible realism and infinite possibilities? (Source: J-Novel Club)

Kaidou originally launched the novel in Shousetsuka ni Narou website in October 2015. Hobby Japan began publishing the novel with illustrations by Taiki the following October. The ninth volume will be released under its HJ Bunko imprint on February 1. The series has a cumulative 440,000 copies of its volumes in circulation.

Kami Imai (Needless) began serializing a manga adaptation in Comic Fire website in December 2016, which has been collected into three compiled volumes as of last July. The fourth volume will go on sale on January 26.

J-Novel Club licensed the light novel in English in May 2017 and the manga this past November for digital release. The eighth light novel volume was published on January 15. The planned release of the first manga volume is approximately six weeks away from now.

Infinite Dendrogram placed third in the 2018 edition of Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi rankings by publisher Takarajimasha.

Ugh, another damn game isekai. Are there any more authors who can write actual fantasy instead of half assing it this way? "Game world" series were already threading a very thin line form the start, but at this point it's just an excuse to not make any actual effort in creating coherent and complex fantasy world, or giving MC a good reason to be a fish out of water. Hell, nowadays I would take poorly explained amnesia if it meant MC isn't in another fucking game.

Never heard of this one, sounds like a SAO clone.

Guess time will tell if this is good or not.

Foreseeable since they teased that already through the website URL, but I'm glad that they finally confirmed the adaptation.

I have heard good things about the novels so I might check out the first volume right before the anime airs.

Yay Satoshi Hino is in the cast. Only thing that I need to know is which studio is going to be the one in charge of the project.

I hope they will follow the more serious and toned drawing style of the novel, and not the childish style of manga, I really hope.

OMG I'm so hyped right now (been following the LN for more than two years, and ofc the 書籍版)
This is the kind of VRMMO stuff that really deserved to get an Anime Adaptation. Glad that it's having a decent cast, fingers-crossed for it to get an good animation studio.

Why are people comparing it to SAO? In the synopsis they never say it's going to resort to the cliche of "can't log out". There are many other anime with the thematic of VR games that don't do that stuff, and that are good.

Please stop hating an anime that hasn't even come out yet, that has no hints that it's going to be a "trapped in a game", comparing it with apparently the only anime they have ever seen (or heard, because many people hate on SAO without even watching it)

I love SAO but still the first anime which came to my mind after reading the synopsis for this novel was SAO

Comparing this to SAO?
Nah, it sounds more like Shichisei no Subaru and Hardcore Leveling Warrior. Not a fan of stories of VRMMO setting with a "endless possibilities" mechanic (Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like players will have personal skills/abilities, hence the reason for me listing the above mentioned names). It just feels a lot less of a video game and more of a isekai. IMO

I mean, outside of Aincrad, Fairy Dance and Alicization (in which that was only Kirito for most part), in all arcs people can log out on the games.

Except SAO is good (except for original Aincrad and the terrible Fairy Dance). And the author is a assumed fan of the original series and Progressive, which was his inspiration for his LN as he read SAO as a teenager when it influenced the market for Isekai and VRMMO stories.

It is a Isekai but not a reincarnation one like Slime or by transferring to another world like Shield Hero.
