The novel confirms they are alive and escape together because the police are still looking for them both when it ends (they can't find any evidence (no bodies). *It is theorized that Grey is alive and helped Zack escape and gave him a new scythe *They recover only ONE body in the burned building (likely Danny's) *The blood on the window is just the ending shot from the game; IT IS ZACK'S BLOOD; NOT RACHAEL'S. *Rachael did not commit suicide; everything that happened, really did happen. They jump slowly and float for maximum dramatic effect. XD There's no deeper meaning. MORE IMPORTANTLY DO YA SHIP IT YET I really hope this is the case and that they were able to run away together!! And YES I HAVE SHIPPED THEM FROM THE START (actually from when I first read the synopsis of the game LOL) I was squealing at all the moments they had during the show~ I'm really going to miss this anime! |

Yeah Im sticking with them actually escaping if the source says they do, what made me raise my eyebrow was Zack having a damn scythe, but thats probably the priest giving him one, he cares too much for Zack and Rachel to leave them all alone, he called the police on them, he knows they'll be in a pinch once they come out, he planned everything up to them disappearing together. Overall quite the enjoyable series. |

the blood on his stomach and leg are wounds she remembers last from zack before she lost conciseness. usually our memory of something is the last memory of it, so perhaps the lady screaming found the body and that last scene was the last parts of her brain cells working. the police showing up is prolly a high risk watch type of thing. the knife is probably something she had when she was admitted and never taken into evidence with the lack of police intelligence here im sure was the case, and knowing Rachel she'd be good at hiding the knife. Blood looks like it got there when she struggled that short body over the broken glass and such. Anyways yes I ship them, and loved the series, for most a beautiful closure to this love story of death and its promise. (that death is gonna get you with that kodak disk) |

For a second, I thought Rachel was about to kill that counselor... Welp, that is the end of Angels of Death. It was alright. What kind of hurt it for me the most is that it drags its dialogue a little too much. Basically repeating what was previously said over and over. I also kind of wished that they played the horror aspect a little more with Rachel running around while hiding from the others. Both Rachel and Zack were cool, and as much as everyone hates Danny, I liked him too. Rachel in particular was quite interesting being someone who had nothing left and seeing Zack, a serial killer, as her one salvation. The ending may have been open, but I can take a guess on what happened. I never played the game, but this may be a story that has multiple endings, so you can interpret it however you want. I was hoping for something better with the "Stop Crying and Smile" line, but oh well.. Good series. It dragged on a bit, but it was quite refreshing. Final Verdict: Til death do us part/10 |

I really love the ending. It feels like the perfect final page of a book, not to mention they were very faithful to the game. Best part definitely was listening to the ending song one last time. Pray by Haruka Chisuga is definitely one of the stronger endings of last season. Really worked perfectly for the theme of the show. |

I might have some theories..the first one is her killing herself. Since she heard that Zack was sentenced to death, Rachel got more mentally broken. It drove her to suicide since the only person she thinks about is Zack. As she hallucinate that Zack is saving her, she killed herself. Remember what Gray said? He sees Zack as an angel. The title is Angels of Death :/ I think when Rachel killed herself, Zack was already dead. But when Rachel killed herself, Zack came in to save her soul by breaking in and save her as an angel. The whole Zack breaking in while being chased by the police was a foreshadowing that Zack is saving Rachel's soul when she died. Remember, Zack's scythe is also busted, but when he's saving her, he has a scythe. The second theory is that Zack ran away with Ray and decided to wait a little longer until Ray can smile again and stopped crying. When Ray was being saved by Zack, she was still crying, so case closed on that one. Third theory, we see them being close with each other, like really close (#zackandray). I'm guessing they both develop deeper feelings and decided to be together until they die. Fourth theory, it could be when Zack saved her, Zack killed her, but when Zack already killed her, the police shot Zack and he also died. So it could be that they both died together (so cute xD) |

RedScarf314 said: Ok, so here is an explanation of the ending; Zack in the end was Ray's imagination, she hears he's dead and kills herself, but imagines him doing it, so he wouldn't break his promise/become a liar. While it's made open/ambiguous (very well made), the answer imo is still definitive - a scythe, the same clothes, knowing where she is - none of that is possible. The post-credits scene clarifies that Ray just broke through the window from the inside with the knife and hands (hence blood everywhere), chanelling her inner Zack and his iron-bars smashing skill. The fact that she has a knife is questionable, but, oh well. Other points are - Rachel forcefully jumps out of the window, but Zack just supernaturally floats; their whole final dialogue is all about how Zack is gonna keep his promise and not let Rachel kill herself; the radio about Zack was likely news that he is executed. What abt the police?? Why could you hear the counsellor scream? |

Finally it's over. This one in parallel with Sirius one were mostly to fill the previoous season. While Sirius was the most generis shounen-type so didn't expect much and even picked it up on the 3rd episode this one was a bit interested. Well that was dissapointing. Didn't connect with any of the characters. The psychology aspect didn't interest me at all, because of it it was slow and boring + to mix up the "supernatural" stuff just felt very weird. Don't even know why that priest was there. And the characters were immortal. Overalll didn't enjoy it at all, if didn't watch it wouldn't miss anything. 4/10 |

The last scene where Zack came to get Rachel made me lol a little bit. It's one of these rare moments which are beautiful, but also unintentional funny. Still great finale overall, good enough to boost the score a bit up for me. And leaving things a bit open was a good decision in this case. |

I loved this anime. I don't care about its flaws, it was a good watch, even if it was slow at times I didn't ever get bored. It had a unique and mysterious atmosphere, beautiful music and animation, and I loved Ray and Zack and their relationship. I totally ship them As for the last episode - I enjoyed it a lot but I'm still confused. It was so satisfying to finally see Zack come for her, I loved that scene, and when I first watched it, no thought about it being her imagination or something ever croossed my mind, I just believed what I saw. But I kinda dislike open endings, I wanted to know whether he killed her or not. Nonetheless, it would be satisfying either way if they just are together. And that's what I want to believe, but oviously it's hard to believe Zack managed to come get her. Then again, not like this anime has been always realistic and believable, so why would I start questioning it now. Also the fact that Rachel never wanted to commit suicide makes me believe she didn't kill herself. So he must have come. What happened after that, though, will keep me wondering for some time. |

I'm seeing how some people thought it got boring midway through, and I personally didn't feel that way but at the same time it seems like with going for the 16 episode arc they did versus the usual 12 most anime do, they didn't want to cut any vital details and speed up what ended up being a quite amazing anime. There's silly elements that really pull away from the mood but the overall arc and it's story telling, plot development and character development is fairly solid. Also scanning through this thread found a poster who had the "true answer" to the ending. I honestly was under speculation the last part was him visiting her in a dream but yeah. |

I read something similar to this in the YouTube comments section of a play through when the viewers were discussing it but I wasn't sure since it's been a while. My personal opinion of the series, it was pretty good. I was confused at some parts since I didn't read the manga or the light novel. I think the ONAs were better than the first we episodes. I like the open ending. From what I remember as well, Zack and Rachel escape. I like to think they develop as characters and even though Rachel wants to "be killed by Zack" I don't think she is linear and neither is Zack. They went through something terrible together and survived. I believe that experience can change them. |

I don't know in my personal opinion I just don't feel like the Rachel killing herself with the illusion of Zach makes no sense because like going throughout this whole series like Zach survived basically every execution there was and kept truck and even scything himself so I'd rather choose to believe the they jumped out the window and died together in my opinion cuz it just makes more sense to with the show itself then the other way around |

Call me impressed, this was to my amazement a really well executed ending for this kind of series! Really wonderful yet dark "happy" ending! The main series was also a lot better than first expected as I really liked that dark atmosphere of it, and to be honest when the 12th episode came around I didn't think they would make it to a proper ending in these four episodes. But well they sure did and it sure was lovely! All in all a pretty solid watch I must say! |

Unsure if any realistic police chief or counsellor would behave anywhere near to how these guys behaved, but well stranger things happen. Competent ending and all in all better towards the end; which is not to say it was perfect towards the end. Good in that they seriously touched on a multitude of issues, and it was largely very coherent and kept a high productional standard. Not that good in that it kinda staggered along with very precarious pacing at points- so while it's coherent, it feels like it's incoherent- and certain themes they touched(God and religion, for instance) were developed in a ham-fisted way. The entertainment value was very low at certain episodes, not as gripping as the producers would have liked it to be. I'm thinking of this as a better-produced Caligula, more or less, so that's a high 5 to me. |

The former 13 epusodes were so uneventful and boring. I gave it a 6/10 (shouldve gave it lower actually), though these 4 episodes were, in contrast, great imo. It got me emotionally invested right from the get-go but it was a fun short ride compared to the prior 13 episodes. 8/10 for this ONA for me |

One thing definitive is that the window is broken from outside, not inside. This is evident when the window shards are found inside the room, not outside. At least this fact is a major plot point in detective manga like kindaichi and tantei gakuen Q :P |

I think the ending of this show is much darker than many people in this comment section believe. I think that the last scene of the show was most likely a figment of Rachel's imagination. The nurse had no reason to lie of Zach's eventual execution, and due to Rachel's fears of dying alone, she created the final scene in her mind. The short post credit scene confirms this. Zach was most likely executed. I also think that Zach having his non-broken scythe in the last scene proves that it was all a "dream". Rachel most likely cut herself with the knife and threw herself out of the window. idk I've never read the manga so this is my best guess. |

Hm there are so many endings, saying that Ray “suicided through her imagination”. But hey can’t I dream of them living together for a bit?😂 Say, that really was the real Zack who escaped and wanted to fulfill their promise. He escaped together with Ray. But didn’t kill her YET. Since the real deal was to (1) Escape to the outside (2) Ray shows a satisfying smile which will make Zack want to kill her. Since (1) is completed. Who knows about the (2) one? Did she smile like Zack wanted? Or was she still a “Dead Doll” thus leaving Zack no choice but to stay with her until the the time comes where she can “SMILE”, gets killed by Zack, then Zack lives the life he wanted? But since it is an open ending. I can just leave it to my wild imagination!!!😤😆 |

Hmm, another confusing ending haha, but yeah after I read some comments, what I have in my mind is Zack already excecuted and what Rachel saw was only her imaagination about Zack. Why? Because as you can see from Zack's appearance and the scythe...the scythe should be broke. But what makes me confuse is there are so many police cars outside the mental care facility, what means, maybe Zack was really left the prison or something has happened in the mental care. I don't know, but the blood in the window didn't help much to give me a clue and the knife too, if Rachel commit suicide, it would be easier to use that knife isn't it? And that knife should be prohibited inside that mental care facility. Hmm, overall good anime, I mean anime with this kind of story is rare and yeah it's interesting. So the angel of death is Zack...that makes sense. |

And this content is the reason I rated this 8. Beautiful ending. That was a promise well left often but very well carried out. Zack and Ray have a unique but very nice bond, really like it. Also Gray retaining his status as the best side-character gracefully in this last arc. I know there are suggestions for what else might have happened but I personally like the one when they showed on-screen, Zack came back to her against all odds, he did mention that if she tells him to do something, he will do it. They are both loyal to each other, so I wanna believe in that. |

man i am so disappointed with this series. I love the tropes of a guy softening up for someone who he could finally call a precious one, and a girl finding comfort in a guy who heals her wound, and that they needed each other, but I didn't like how the development was done in the series.. It started very well, setting up for the end game, which is really nice as well, but the middle part is a bunch of nonsense. The religious mumbo jumbo, the illusion / supernatural crap, and the doc who just wouldn't die.. Zack's backstory is alright but Ray's backstory didn't explain her apatheticness, yea we could've drawn conclusion that her family situation put her into that position but it still really doesn't explain it. Her cop dad killing the mom is kinda a stretch, and Ray pulling the trigger on her dad, like she's 12 or 13, in Japan no less, how does she know how to use a gun, and where did her mom get one.. Also she's way too knowledgeable for a 13 years old, would've been better if she's like 16 or 17 at least. The development part is key to me, and this was done in a very generic way, Ray said something and Zack had an awakening, and vice versa. Somehow Zack chilled down after 15 years of being a psychotic serial killer, all happened in 2~3 days in their time? They even had that generic "we're destined to be with each other" scenes before their relationship was even developed. Premise was great, ending was good, just didn't follow up very well in the middle parts. |
