Mal's default 1-10 point scale is too much of a headache for me so I decided to use 0-1 scale. If I like anime I rate it 1 and if I don't like anime I don't rate it at all. Sounds like a flawless rating system to me. |

About my lists: (I only need eight numbers to separate the series, so I've excluded 1 and 10.) 2 - I do not recommend these to anyone 3 - I consider these series bad, but they have at least one quality that one might find good 4 - There's a higher chance to find something to consider good in these, but they still fail to tell a story 5 - Nothing much happens, but they're not bad, either 6 - Nothing much happens, but they are otherwise pretty fine, this includes good stories with fillers 7 - There's a lot that I'd fix in these series, but they still manage to tell a story 8 - There's usually a single major thing I'd fix in these series 9 - There's hardly a flaw that I consider important in these series Quite some time ago, I've used something like this: 8 - Not recommending 9 - Recommending 10 - My favorites It wasn't too useful when my anime list grew, though. Is the 1/5 on your rating system supposed to be "average and worse"? |

Unrated I'm either currently watching/reading it or i can't give it a thoughtful score for any reason 1-2-3 Bad. Don't waste your time on this. I really didn't like it. I don't necessarily hate it, but i definitely didn't like it. 4 Meh. Below average. Could have been something, but in the end, it didn't 5 Just a timer killer. Nothing special about it. It wasn't bad, but also not good. 6 Not bad, but also not too remarkable. May recommend titles from this category depending on the person's likes and dislikes. I liked it to a certain degree. It's just ok 7 Overall, it was a good experience. Good at some things, not so good at others. I either didn't enjoyed it as much as i thought i would, or its overall quality wasn't great enough. But still, anything rated 7/10, is something that i liked. Generally, i will recommend things from this category, depending on the request. 8 From this point forward, is where i really liked what i've watched/read. An 8/10 is a very good experience. A solid title in most aspects. Some minor flaws here and there, but i still liked it a lot. 9 A truly superb experience. It had some minor flaws that i couldn't care less about, and that's why i can't give it a 10/10. Sometimes the reason that it isn't a 10 is because there was a similar masterpiece even better than this. 10 Absolutely incredible. It doesn't mean that it's perfect, but every aspect was at least good. I enjoyed it a lot. Definitely among the best of its kind, if not the best |

You could at least use 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 instead. I use the MAL rating system from 1-10. 1 are the worst anime ever, 5 is average and 10 is masterpiece. |

For me 3/10 means I still enjoyed some parts of the show, like art or music or some particular moment, when it comes to this I just count good points and decide between 2, 3, and 4. 1 means it was irredeemably terrible. 5 is a breaking point, truly average, when I don't even feel much about the show. 6 is ok, maybe even good but just not my cup of tea. 7 is good, but nothing too special. 8 is what I personally like but have some issues nevertheless. 9 is what I loved a lot with just 1 or 2 points that keep it from being perfect. 10 is either perfect or when can overlook any flaws just for emotional value alone. |

1-5 = unwatchable. (Exists but I barely use it because I'm good at selecting stuff that might be at least watchable for me.) 6-10 is explained in my profile. I try to be rare with 10 now. Even 9 doesn't get used that often. 9 is almost perfect all of the time. 6 is barely watchable. Very boring and I probably had higher hopes at the beginning. At epi 1-3 I need to hope for 7 (better 8) at least or I'd drop it. 6 or lower are those where I thought "it might get better" ... for the hole anime until the last episode ... to notice it did not get better. :D 7-8 are normal. 8 is just good. Not great. But entertaining most of the time. 7 is entertaining ... but also with a lot boring episodes in between wich are not that bad. But "okay" to have such episodes mixed in to wait for the better ones. |

As long as you follow your own system consistently and there's logic to it, then it's fine. Unless it's done inconsistently, falsely or illogically, then there shouldn't be criticism for scoring systems; to each their own. 1-5 is for anime I thought was truly bad or I truly disliked, but that rarely happens so most of my scoring is above that line, where it becomes more about how much I enjoyed it rather than whether I did or not. I do consider objective values when rating anime, but I mostly stick to how much I enjoyed it/what I thought of it. I boil it down to the image below in all simplicity. I ask myself "did I like it? did I really like it?" etc. and I think about "did I like/dislike this more than this anime at this score?" |

I usually rate shows between 3-9. If i rate something less than 3 then that is because i hated every single minute of it. On the other hand shows rated 10 aren't necessarily flawless but they are the best in the genre that i have seen. For example i haven't seen that many Romance/ School shows. "Re-life" is the best one of that genre i have seen by a long shot so i gave it a 10. If i later find a better romance show i'll give that a 10 instead and Relife would be a 9. |

10- Best thing of it's genre I've seen, I pretty much loved all aspects and every second of the experience was bliss. The series have also to leave a big impact on me. 9- One of the greatest series ever and basically as enjoyable and impactful as my 10's. It's just that they were qualitywise not on pair with them, examples are Golden Time, Plastic Memories or The Ping Pong Club. 8- Awesome watch in almost every aspect, the very few flaws or things I personally disliked they might have had were easily overshadowed by their merits. Consider series with this rating also as part of my favs. 7 Enjoyable watch with little to complain, usually solid in everything it tried to achieve. Some of my 7's might have had a bigger issue which was outbalanced by something else, tho. Overall very satisfying, but not quite as impactful as 8 and above. 6- More positive aspects than negative ones and even if I'm not 100% buying the series I can still appreciate it for it's quality. Vice versa the same, enjoyment overshadows the rather poorly written story or characters. So my 6's are basically reserved for series where I'm either convinced by it's quality or it's entertaiment value. 5- Pros and cons are balancing each other out, yet I tend to think of my 5's as a positive experience while watching, they're easily forgotten after finishing them most of the time, tho. 4- Cons are starting to ruin the watching experience, these shows might have some good aspects, but they are rarely enjoyable thanks to the rest being mediocre at best. 3- Now it's getting into the territory where the watching experience equals suffering. The very few things I liked aren't worth it all, clear failure. 2- Among the worst und unpleasant experiences I've had. Aside from the premise they didn't have anything going for them. Horrible TV series and bad OVA's are to find here. 1- Absolute trash. There's literally nothing, aside from laughing about how miserably they failed, that you can gain from watching the entries I've rated with this score. TV series I've rated with this score are series I love to hate. |

I use the MAL scale as if it was rated over five instead of ten. Like this: 10 - Must see, best of the best, a true master piece. 8 - Good, I recommend it even if you don't usually enjoy the genre. 6 - Above average, you can find some enjoyment if you like the ideas it presents or the genre, but you can skip it if you don't. 4 - Below average, only watch if you REALLY are into that. 2 and below - Just crap I use the odd numbers as decimals between the values I posted above. |

10 - absolutely master piece probally would watch it again 9 - awesome 8 - really really good 7 - averagely good 6 - has some good points but is overall mediocre/has some bad points as well 5 - absolutely mediocre 4 - Bad 3 - has good points but overall still really bad 2 - not as bad as 1 but still really really bad 1 - I'll rage about it and tell my friends how bad it is and how much I hate it I wish it could have a " I freaking hate this anime " tier because it is way bellow 1 to me in most occasions. |

- Any entry with less than 20 minutes total running time; not counting credits, still frames or black screens, do not get rated. - Anime dropped within the first 3 episodes do not get listed or rated, unless I have a grudge with it, or I watched it while it was airing. - Art style, art quality and animation can not affect a score negatively except for in the most dire examples. It can however affect scores positively if it is above & beyond what good anime typically do. The exception to this being anime rated 9 - art/ animation can not improve a 9 to a 10. Scores 10: Flawless/ masterpiece 9: Only has extremely minor imperfections 8: Very good+, deserving of classic status 7: Very Good-, great in terms of entertainment but lacks X-factor or depth 6: Above average (enjoyable for a majority of the time) 5: Completely average to slightly below average (enjoyable less than half of the time) 4: Bad/ A let-down (mostly not enjoyable) 3: Annoyingly bad 2: Offensively bad 1: Filth |

I use a rating system based on my own enjoyment and its recommendability. So far I haven't found or watched anything deserving a score of below 4 or above 9. 9 - Either touched me on a personal level or so good I would recommend it to anybody regardless of preference 8 - Had a good time with it, would recommend to friends and to whoever may enjoy it 7 - Mostly enjoyable with a few lows here and there, I would maybe recommend to those who enjoy the genre or similar kinds of shows 6 - It's watchable with a few entertaining moments here and there 5 - It's not particularly entertaining but not entirely unwatchable 4 - Either so bad I dropped it, or so unsatisfying it belongs in the same category There's some I really enjoy but cannot recommend to everybody. Hence a partially recommendation based rating system. It's not perfect, that I have to admit. But it's a tad more fair system than exclusively judging based on my own preferences. |

You really can' process or conceive of more than 5 different ways of feeling about an anime? I'm honestly envious. My brain would end up differentiating not on 10, not on 100 but on 1000s of levels if you give it an adequate rating scale. It's never enough, the options of differentiating that these rating systems offer. Some shows always end up at the same score where I think 'No, I don't feel the same way about these two shows'. Differentiating between things is what prevents life from becoming one uniform blob of sameness, of feeling the same about everything so it's just something I naturally start doing all the time, it's not something I can really turn off. |
I probably regret this post by now. |

10- God tier (Had to have significantly moved me) 9- Great (If a show has many enjoyable aspects and hooks me in for the long haul) 8- Good (What most shows I watch fall into usually I enjoy these shows but they're not particularly amazing) 7- Solid (Usually an ok show that has a decent amount of strong redeeming qualities about it) 6- Meh (These shows usually fail to impress me but often have some kind of pull to keep me watching) 5- Average (Nothing really special but nothing extremely bad) 4- Bad (These shows usually fall short in every sense of the word) 3- Horrible (These shows usually have a very weak story and very few redeeming qualities) 2- Garbage (These shows were probably more painful than enjoyable for me) 1- An Utter piece of shit (These shows are so bad that they personally offended me.) |

Some that could be the reasons 1. Too many options that it's confusing 2. Too many bad options that're unneeded to include 3. The chosen words are vague and confusing 4. Hard to decide, especially for the middle values (due to the reason 1 and/or 3) 5. So some people want easier way to rate I guess no matter what rating system people have, as long as they use a full 1-10 rating scale then it doesn't matter. When people use different ones in regard of the interval scores (1-5 or 6-10 for example), does it matter. It makes the rating less representative because people don't watch the same anime. Edited for bad grammars and chosen words. |

I'm actually pretty selective when it comes to anime so those that does not catch my interest after the 1st episode are dropped and you won't find them in my list because I don't waste my time on things that doesn't interest me. 1-5 are basically bad ratings that I won't even watch and include in my list lmao So my list starts from 6-10. 6 - the show was pretty decent and there are parts that I enjoyed, intensity wise was prob a meh 7 - show was pretty enjoyable but intensity could probably be strengthened somewheree 8 - show was good, comedy / intensity on point but it still lacks something 9 - show was great, everything required in good anime are included 10 - A FUCKING MASTERPIECE. SHOW WAS INTENSE AF OR FUNNY AF, ALL THE BACKSTORIES GOT MY KOKORO SOBBING AWAY THS FEELZ AND EVERYTHING IS JUST PERFECT |
