Toho is expected to ship over 1.2 million discs for the Blu-ray and DVD release of the anime movie Kimi no Na wa. (Your Name.), scheduled to arrive in stores on July 26. The Nikkei Marketing Journal newspaper will publish a one-page feature on the movie in its Friday issue.

The total number of Blu-ray and DVD shipments does not necessarily equate to the number of copies sold. Shipment numbers often include copies sent to a company's business offices and to retailer warehouses. Kimi no Na wa. will be released in three versions—a Collector's Edition 4K UHD Blu-ray priced at 12,000 yen, a Special Edition Blu-ray priced at 7,800 yen, and a Standard Edition priced at 4,800 yen for Blu-ray and 3,800 yen for DVD. Retailer listings indicate the discs will include English and Chinese subtitles.

To date, Kimi no Na wa. has accumulated box office revenues of more than 24.94 billion yen in Japan since it opened in theaters in August 2016. Earlier this year, it eclipsed Sen to Chihiro no Kamikushi (Spirited Away) as the top grossing anime movie globally after setting box office records in China.

North American distributor FUNimation Entertainment announced its own Blu-ray and DVD release of the movie at Anime Expo earlier this month. No specific date has been set, but FUNimation indicated its release will occur within the year.

I think they will still need another batch after that. How often do you hear report/news on BBC of a Japanese Animation Movie?

Well, my predictions are that it'll sell easily over 500k BD + DVD in the first week. But they'll be shipping more soon. And considering that the Japanese release will be coming with English (and Chinese) subs, they'll be a lot of people importing it, like me.

The day the Bluray comes out. The Bluray comes with English subs, so there's no need to wait for subs.

people shouldn't buy this. $42 is way too much for a bluray - and 32 for a dvd, are they serious? that's the reason why so many torrent anime

You realize that in Japan to buy a full one cour series (12-13 episodes) in BD it will usually cost you 300€ right? This is rental pricing, so having it priced that high is nothing surprising.
Not like I would like it to be sold far lower than that, but anime is a niche medium that doesn't have any better way to survive than rental pricing.

They mostly give attention to all the mainstream anime films out there.
