The MC (being wet) making an awkward introduction to the girls while attempting to look cool. You can say the start is cliche, but dumb isnt the right word. How would u make a "smart" start? It doesnt even make sense Smart start, you say? Maoyuu Maou Yuusha starts with Evil Overlord lecturing Hero about economic effects of war, and that to stop wars, they have to solve economic problems first. And they agree to do just that. That was smart on all kinds of levels. |

He seems like such a lazy, trash kind of guy (who's pretty relatable to be honest) and he made me laugh quite a few times. Can't wait to see his backstory! Relatable?! No part of Glenn is relatable, except for bad handwriting. Mentar said: It's easy to dismiss this show as "yet another stupid magic academy harem" after episode 1. After all, that's how it looks, doesn't it? What more would we need to know? Except that it isn't. It's no harem, the overarching storyline is actually dark - almost brutal - and the characters are not just moe-dripping fluffballs, but rather distinct personalities. You'll see. The first episode has a really weak, cliche-ridden start in LN and manga, too. Nevermind that and bear with it. The real story begins with episode 2. After previous season's Maid Dragon (the anime played heartwarming parts to the max and expanded them beyond the manga, but didn't have much of the dark parts left), I would not be sure about that. |

The first episode isn't engaging enough for me to want to continue, but based on some opinions on the manga (haven't read it).... I guess I'll wait till 5 more episodes or so. For now I disliked it though |

Anyway, Sisti is really cute, for those who already read the LN, does Glenn end up with Sisti or the other girl? Or is it will be love triangle? Alot of comments are saying it's not a harem in the original source so most likely no triangle (luckily XD). Silver hair is always HNG. Blondie is also 10/10 don't get me wrong. |

After 15min in or so it was a struggle to watch as I didn't find it entertaining enough or cared for the characters. I also didn't find it that funny, I think I did laugh out loud twice. Didn't mind the animation though. Keep going with it and treat as konosuba |

This is honestly the worst show I've ever seen. Granted, it's not like I've watched every single anime out there, but the entire time I was watching the first episode I wanted to punch someone and/or die. The teacher is annoying, the girls are boring, and the fanservice is obnoxious. Every time I see the uniforms I die a little inside. It feels disrespectful and they aren't even cute or anything. And 'm not a hater of fanservice, but I will hate when it is done as poorly as it is in this show. The animation is average light novel animation, which I personally don't like, but isn't actually a fault of the show, just taste. The same applies to the character designs, but once again, taste. I can't believe I see people comparing this to Cavalry or Konosuba, both of those shows are leagues better than this one. They have a good MC, and a fun and interesting supporting cast. While something like BanG Dream! isn't near perfect, the fact that it has a lower score than this highly concerns me, considering it's leagues better. Overall, this is a terrible show. If you want this done right, watch Cavalry or literally anything else. |

Hmm so settings wise this takes place in a semi modern world eh With magic as well Hmm magic used as a form of healing eh The girl was nice to help the old man though If the rest of the students are such powerful mages of their own then i can see why the empire is as successful as she says. So it seems that Runia and Sistine are pretty close friends. Lol that was one hell of a introduction and a overreaction of sistine though. Hmm so far the mc behaves like a typical jerk lol. Sistine and Runia's reaction to the teacher's identity though lol. Wow Glenn's introduction to the class he really is not keen on doing this job eh Sistine will be an opponent to him first i think Hmm so Glenn is at most a third order mage eh. Yep Glenn is the type that would use a lecture to sip tea by using that as a self study lecture. Figures Glenn doesn't even have a teaching licence either. Hmm Celica seems to be both respected by the head and feared by the teachers. And she seems to have respect for Glenn as well considering the threat. She seems to have a lot of trust in Glenn as well. Wow Glenn really looks lifeless though. Hmm Sistine is doing a good job of standing up for the class though. Glenn really is a bastard lol. Sistine really is dedicated to the class though. If anything Glenn isn't scared of anything even when sitting opposite the girl thats opposing you the most in class. Runia though really is cute though. Lol Glenns way of dealing with Sistine's complaints. Shoving a spoon down her throat as she speaks and stuffing it with food lol. Lol so Glenn was blackmailed into becoming a teacher by Celica eh. Yea blowing a hole through two walls is a good enough threat i think. Lol Sistine's threat really backfired here though as Glenn really did not want to be one. Hmm to think that sistine would challenge Glenn to a dual If anything Sistine has great pride in the role of mages and magic as well which is the main reason why she's against Glenn in this first place In magic combat the side that invokes the spell the fastest will win and in this case the one that reduces their spells the shortest and chants it the fastest will win. That result was surprising though. I guess being crafty is one of his traits as its true that they never promised anything after all. It will take a long time to change Glenn thats for sure. |

With all respect, I disagree with people who says it's not harem. Sure there is not lot of hijinks, angst and catfights, but as for volume three there are still four females close enough to Glenn to be considered love interests. Which why saying it's not harem is misleading at minimum. |

It's normal in anime for girls to be touchy with each other. Also they were shown to be best friends and close loke sisters, so if an unknown annoying guy suddenly act close of course she didnt like it You're already asking which one Glenn is going to end up with while simultaneously brushing off any notion of Sisti having feelings for her friend with legit zero evidence at all so I don't want to hear it when I personally don't see either of them having a relationship with him for many reasons (as of the first episode at least). Their are Light novels where the op main character is a douchebag. Thing is those 'beta' males you talk about unfortunately get alpha 'when the plot demands it'. The problem is their half assed character to be the right character arch type for the given situation. It's bad writing at its finest. |

I applaud this series for going with the non-cliche of keeping Glen...well....annoying and lazy and all that in the first episode. Now we just need a gradual and clever buildup of why he was recommended for this job, tone down the "sexual related" jokes and this might turn out genius, in a non-cliche way... |

Here we have a "generic magic academy anime number 18540 with title impossible to memorize XD". Well, I knew what was I gettnig myself into, and I enjoyed it. Yeah, we have most of the things you would expect from this kind of show, but it was not terrible at all, I've seen worse. At least we have some kind of fictional fantasy land, and not modern/futuristic pseudo-Japan. This time it's no surprise why no one, including our tsundere main girl, Sisti, likes the main protagonist - he is a lazy, irresponsible, annoying pr*ck. I really am with the tsundere girl this time. Gonna see if he's gonna change or unleash some OP-protagonist-kun-powers (I hope the second option won't happen). Must admit, the first thing I've noticed about this anime are the uniforms - they feel more like something from the sexshop rather than an attire of the elite mage student - oh well, I like midriffs, garterbelts and stockings, so I won't complain anymore :P The girls "bonding" in the locker room was also a nice view ;) |

Started off funny as hell so much I was in tears. The healer girl was cute, the teacher was funny, like a male Gabriel level lazy ass (from DropOut). A fierce sense of rivalry was already forming with other faculty which was fended off by a bad ass witch who has a soft heart, how exciting! Then we get this piece of %&#@ sexually harassing her best friend (a character who I was already liking) by grabbing her breasts to vent her anger? How STUPID! *grumble* It devolved into pointless ecchi nonsense in the locker fan service scene. "Your body feels so good"? What the hell is this..soft porn now? What a disappointment! What a waste of potential. Couldn't even finish watching. Dropped. 0/5 Appalling |

@Aeonenleben, @Zarator, @Arcued, @Nigami_Shin, @YEROCKY, @Cleviojr, @Raven_Wingz, @Blind_Guardian and others that I might have missed. I was actually on the verge of dropping after watching the first episode too (it was a 2/5 for me). But episode 2 actually changed quite a bit of my overall impression of the anime (except for the comedy that didn't improve much). Even for those who are watching it, the percentage of fans liking it improved from a MAL average of 64% (episode 1) to an excellent 95% (episode 2). Also, episode one hit the lowest at 7.27 in MAL after majority of the ratings came in before episode 2 came out and now it's at 7.54 after episode 2 came out which also indicates that those who actually rated it lower changed their rating after episode 2. Not preaching or anything. It's definitely not a must see anime, but perhaps it might just turn out to be better than majority of the mediocre LN adaptations that came out in recent years. So, you guys may wanna give episode 2 a shot before dropping it altogether. |

Not preaching or anything. It's definitely not a must see anime, but perhaps it might just turn out to be better than majority of the mediocre LN adaptations that came out in recent years. So, you guys may wanna give episode 2 a shot before dropping it altogether. Well, episode 2 was not as bad as episode 1, though there are still many things with it that don't sound quite much right. For example, the whole part at the beginning about the use of magic etc. I understand what Glenn was prolly trying to say - that most people treat magic as a weapon or, anyway, something NOT to help humanity, and that's where his contempt comes from. Which can make sense, in a way, given the pretty obvious hints we've been given about his past, thanks to Rumia-chan's flashback. But the problem is, the way students sucked it up, in a way, makes absolutely no sense. One of the first scenes in ep. 1 showed us that magic can also heal wounds. And I don't see why only Rumia-chan would know about it. So, how can all these people actually believe that magic cannot be useful to humanity? I can see a way in which that preach could have been phrased to make sense, but the way it was actually phrased in the anime was extremely poor. Also, the reaction of Sistina to Glenn walking out (mockingly, ofc) instead of saving her was completely out of place. If you want to stick to rule of comedy (as this sort of reaction might suggest), then you don't put a random attempted rape scene into the mix. It also came down as quite gratuitous too - the whole setup for the teacher to save her would've worked just as well with any other sort of threat, so this rly has no excuse. I'm not saying they should NOT have had an attempted rape, but if you do, then stick to it, and don't make her react in a silly way like she did, when it's quite obvious she should be WAY too shocked to do something like that. For a comparison, when Onizuka hurries to rescue her students under threat of being held for ransom (in the anime - in the manga they're threatened to be used as sex toys), the girls never break out of character, and the drama is preserved - even if GTO is obviously also a comedic show. It is this sort of details which distinguish actually good shows (like GTO) from mediocre ones (like this one). Oh, and if we want to press on the comparison between GTO and Rokudenashi, I'd say Onizuka is much more believable than Glenn as a "bad teacher". The fact is, just like Glenn, Onizuka is sort of a "hidden badass"... but in an area unrelated to teaching skills. He actually knows very little about teaching subjects, which justifies why he's so bad at it. Glenn, on the other hand, is obviously very skilled at magic, as we've seen in this episode. But the transition from "he's a goofball" to "he's actually skilled" was quite abrupt and shoddily done, to me - and frankly, I'm still not sure it reflects how I'd expect a person to act if this were real life (whereas I honestly find Onizuka quite believable as a character). Then again, this is how I felt, and I can understand other ppl may find Glenn totally believable. But this still doesn't change the fact that many other clichéd comedic moments, butt comedy, "baka", and whatever turned a potentially good story into a mediocre show. If these elements do not bother you, by all means keep watching. Personally, I might keep watching this if I have time, but I don't have high expectations. One thing for sure is - my hope that this could've been on par with GTO was completely blown out. |

@Zarator: please put your post under spoiler tag since you are discussing the contents of episode 2 here in episode 1 discussion thread which is against MAL forum rules. Also, put the GTO contents in separate spoiler. There might be those who haven't seen GTO accidentally reading your post and getting spoiled. I did not say it's a must see. As it is now, the anime is pretty average. What I tried to say is episode 2 improves from episode 1. I also did mention that the comedy is somewhat on the weaker side in the story. This is nowhere near GTO for what I have seen so far and there's hardly any similarity, there is hardly any similarity with Konosuba too as fans keep referring to. The closest that come to teacher-student stories like GTO are Gintama (a very significant part of it) and Assassination Classroom. Both of them are comedy and in both stories the teachers that are originally despised leave a lasting impression on their students later on. The difference is Shoyo and Koro-sensei became father like figures to their students unlike Onizuka. Well, the rest is for anyone to find out if they are interested. I am not recommending them here. Often comparisons are made completely out of proportion. This is nothing new. Just check MAL user recommendations. A good number of them are so silly that they make me ROFL and some are so pathetic that reveal major contents without realizing that they are spoilers. So, I removed recommendation notifications/posts from my MAL panel, because they are the real trashy stuff in MAL, more than anything else. |

@shanimebib: I'm sorry I was not aware about those spoiler rules, my bad. As for the show, I dunno but part of me feels like this could only be considered watchable because we set the bar somewhat too low over the last few years (thank you Re:Zero for helping lowering the bar). Frankly, even when restricting oneself to this season, I'd rather watch the Grimoire of Zero than this show, as far as LN-based fantasy anime go. I understand you agree with me that the comedy is on the weaker side - but frankly, it kinda ruins the watch for me. Even if ep. 2 was better than ep. 1, I still had to force myself through it, rather than actually enjoy it like Grimoire of Zero (or Sakura Quest, or Little Witch Academia, etc...) |

Well, you can always click quick edit under your post and add spoiler button to hide your contents in your post above. I know what you feel about LN adaptations. Re:Zero started so strongly only to become a disappointment later. The whole whale-hunting arc was a major downer. It's a shame though that we have so many forgettable LN adaptations in recent years. But there are still some hidden gems in them. Like Hai to Gensou no Grimgar. I personally thought it was one of the best anime from last year and the best LN adaptation from last year. The art and animation are great as well. While the story is pretty good, what made it stand out to me is the characters and their struggles. |

I personally thought it was one of the best anime from last year and the best LN adaptation from last year. The art and animation are great as well. While the story is pretty good, what made it stand out to me is the characters and their struggles. I, uh... really would not call Grimgar THAT good in the first place. For starters, the whole "gamey" feeling it had was unoriginal, and frankly overdone. Second, there are way too many buttjokes, it almost felt like the two girls were there just for that reason. Finally, the overall IQ of the characters was far too low for me to enjoy this, I can understand that a char may not be particularly smart, but it's hard for me to cheer for a cast of dumb teenagers. Overall, I rly could not take it seriously. For a comparison, why don't you try checking out Scrapped Princess? It's also based on LNs, but it really beats Grimgar to hell and back in terms of character depth and world building. Frankly, this is an issue with many anime (fantasy or otherwise) - there is a fine line between "comedy" and "loss of suspension of disbelief". You can have an anime which also involves comedic moments, but which still manages to execute its basic plot and premise in a serious way. On the other hand, we get more and more anime (like Rokudenashi, alas) who are not even trying to take themselves seriously - where whatever seriousness there might be is swallowed by the over-the-top comedy. |

The Light Novel tropes are everywhere with this one. I kinda like the premise, but I probably will stop caring about this show by the next episode, just too many clichés to stay interesting. The designs were very distracting. On the one hand you have these typical light novel designs (highly fetishized and many "charm points"), but the rest of the show's art feels like it comes from another anime. The slapstick humor felt really out of place. At least the amount of fanservice was kept relatively low for a light novel adaptation. |

For a 2017 anime, the animation looks like a 2007 anime. |

What a great start hahahaha It was so funny, i think it was a much funnier episode than eromanga sensei, i was expecting more comedy from eromanga. But anyways, it was great. I will call this guy by "cliche killer" xD That bath part and that duel hahaha And i won't say a word about those uniforms...xD |

While some of the directing, editing, and especially the dialogue were off, the ending scene is fucking brilliant. We start to think just maybe the teacher actually is a badass, as his expression gets serious. I then remembered that he wears Mickey Mouse gloves, something only professional characters wear...but my expectation is subverted as it turns out that the teacher really is a fuck-up. |

It's explained in LN that female bodies absorb mana better than men and that's why they need to show more skin. |

Thought I'd check this out 'cause it's gotten decent scores so far but this was just bad. Probably one of the worst first episodes of the season, it was highly predictable and the characters are so annoying. ._. I'll give the next episode a shot and hope it becomes watchable. |

Nice uniforms ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Sisti's cute as fuck, also that smug <3 Damn, we Yuri already, like how Sisti was still clinging to Rumia while Glenn was talking. Celica is bae, wonder what's her relation with our lazy MC. While I get that Glenn was forced into this, he could at least try a bit, felt bad for the class..xD Loved those chibis at the end <3 |

The students could have just have their own sign-in sheet and leave if the teacher didn't came. Anyways, this anime is pretty decent. I see some potential. It's like Trinity Seven meets Konosuba. |

I'm surprised how much I enjoyed that. Funny and cute, especially Rumia! Yay! I didn't have to make a gif of that. Thanks! **snap** |

Can't believe I sit this out previously. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! I rarely laugh while watching anime (spoiled by Korean variety shows) but this episode made me laugh more than once.. Story wasn't as predictive as I expected at least in this episode. The expected route was to have the teacher show his awesomeness towards the end but for non-manga reader like me, I was on the edge that he's actually 50/50 fluke. Animation quality is high (not sure why some people feels like it's on a budget but rather this is the style for the show) but hopefully it would be the same for the remaining 11 episodes. Character design is likable for sure. |

This show is just stupid beyond repair,i mean we really needed a different type of protagonist from the usual but does he have to be so darm stupid. He not even a bit funny, why did they have to make him an idiot.I mean i get it when viewers say the are fed up with the protagonist we usually get in other shows but this....they could do a whole lot better i think i prefer the cool bad ass over the idiot op that this guy is going to turn out to bet |
