Love Live The School Idol Project S2 won 2014, Osomatsu-san won 2015 and Yuuri on Ice will win 2016. We always use the starting air date as the season, not when it ends or when the discs come out.Z4k said: DarklordVor said: Since beating out Love Live means that YOI is the highest 2016 anime BD/DVD sales. However, for franchise sales they do count when the money comes in so YOI will do well for the December 2016-December 2017 period. LoveLive Sunshine will have v4-7 in there and hopefully a decent showing for its live concert BD. Not sure if we'll get S2 in summer 2017 or not, hopefully we'll know in about 4 weeks after the live concert as they always announce the next anime season at that time. |

It doesn't matter the Sunshine (and many other shows) are split between years because the committee gets all the money anyway. Yearlies are only really good for checking how things that didn't make the full list sold and how franchises do. (Because they don't release that data weekly like BDs or CDs) |

Ah I mean YOI is the highest 2016 anime BD/DVD sales that aired in 2016, but yeah that means YOI is technically the highest BD/DVD sold in 2017 so far (until Kimi no Na Wa arrived). Yohimo_asakura said: 100k is not a huge number for a wide release. I would also expect around 1-1,5 million in its first week. Frozen sold something like that. But considering that Your Name has larger fanbase AND is a japanese movie (Japanese cares about that), we might see even a 2 million sales in its first week. I believe that the first week Kimi no Na Wa is on sale will be only in Japan, before going through licensing companies such as Funimation for worldwide release. Normally people would think that they would sell 200-300k on its first week, because not everyone is willing to buy expensive BD/DVD in Japan. I also used reference from Love Live movie in 2015 that sold over 230k and Evangelion: 3.0 in 2013 (grossed more than 5 billion yen, which is 4-5x lower than Kimi no Na Wa) that sold over 570k in its entire run. And Madoka Magica's third movie also only sold 130k on its first week, although this movie grossed like 10x lower than Kimi no Na Wa. But I guess Kimi no Na Wa can do 1-2m like you said, after all, they keep on suprising internet on how many records they can beat. I don't see how it's impossible for them to break 2 million on its first week, making it the first crazy anime sales of the decade or all time. |

Because that's when the franchise started making money through the BD/DVDs. When you talk about which series sold the most during a specific time period. The airing date doesn't really matter. Suppose if for some reason an old long running series like One Piece sold a lot of BDs/DVDs in 2016. The sales will be listed under 2016 and not when it started to air. Same thing happens in the yearly Top selling Franchise where no one's going to list Osomatsu-san back when it started to air but under 2016's list. DarklordVor said: Z4k said: DarklordVor said: Since beating out Love Live means that YOI is the highest 2016 anime BD/DVD sales. That would be Osomatsu-san since the BD/DVDs were released in 2016. Im surprised no one is talking about Keijo!! given how much hyped it was before airing but it flopped and no one even cares about it anyway. It just shows that ecchi with a large female cast doesn't sale well anymore, what sells now is full male cast with the typical fanservice for fans. shows with fanservice for women doesn't always do that well though. aside from yoi there's such a huge gap between sales that target fujo/yumejoshi. What to you mean "other than yoi" this season we had: UtaPri had a 55k vol1 Tourabu had a 23k vol1 And Haikyuu had a 11k vol1. Natsume and BSD are doing above average. I mean the top 3 series of the season almost exclusively target women are make up 3 of the top 5 best selling series of the year. I do agree that there are many flops that target women too. |

They're breaking records and win nominations almost every day. Since beating out Love Live means that YOI is the highest 2016 anime BD/DVD sales. Now all I can think about is how much Kimi no Na Wa BD/DVD will sell in the first week. 100k? 100k is not a huge number for a wide release. I would also expect around 1-1,5 million in its first week. Frozen sold something like that. But considering that Your Name has larger fanbase AND is a japanese movie (Japanese cares about that), we might see even a 2 million sales in its first week. Frozen still made more money at the box office. And you have to remember mainstream movies don't sell like late night anime that dump almost all their discs in the first week. They have huge legs. Flop Ouch Not really a flop so nah. If less than 1k vol1 sales isn't a flop, nothing is. But it still sold more than Keijo!! anyway. Im surprised no one is talking about Keijo!! given how much hyped it was before airing but it flopped and no one even cares about it anyway. Just from this season we have Yuri!!! on Ice at 1 that has clear romance between men, not that far away at 2 we have Uta no☆Prince with male idols, at 3 Touken Ranbu with a all bishounen cast and from a popular source, then at 4 Haikyuu a shounen manga that for some reason is victim of fujos and at 5 Drifters with a majoraty of male cast and a certain very bishounen character. The more fujobait it is the more it sells just by looking at this list. (funny because the 6 is an yuri bait anime). At 10 Magic-Kyun! Renaissance another idol anime. The only flop here is Dream Festival but that was expected because it is an ONA and the market is already saturated with idol anime. It got a sequel anyway so it was not actually a flop and was sucessfully enough. |

jejehartadi said: Actually I spoke too soon as the NHK is third on the production committee while Aniplex (who does care about disc sales) is 1st and the publisher (which cares most about source material sales) is second. I thought 3gatsu was like Log Horizon, Baby Steps, et al where the only producer was the NHK so disc sales really didn't matter at all but in this case Aniplex put the most money in the pot so it depends how close NHK and the publisher were to the Aniplex contribution. If they were close and Aniplex is only only the hook for about 10-20% then disc sales are less important than normal but if Aniplex is on the hook for 50% then they'll be disappointed.hpulley said: kamil88 said: 3-gatsu no Lion sold worse than i thought, hopefully at least manga got boost. 3gatsu is on NHK so disc sales don't matter but I admit it still seems low Why being on NHK makes disc sales don't matter?
