THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Haha,, this OVA is bader than all James Bond movies put together when it comes to a guy "using" girls to get where he wants in life. Ofcourse the animation is out of date but I still enjoyed the story alot! |

Wow, Blue Flames is like the absolute reference when it comes to badass/immoral heroes and totally emotionless stories. Even Makoto from School Days and Light Yagami from Death Note put together feel like good guys compared to Ryuuchi... A masterpiece of evilness and manipulation. I really, really liked it, even if the animation is both outdated and was already bad in 1987. Makes you wonder about human nature though... |

Wow. I learned such a lesson: Being a manipulative, lying, cruel, evil, greedy, life destroying son-of-a-bitch gets you... a pretty satisfying life. Ugh, I don't know what was worse--the main character or the fact that he did not get impaled and died at some point. |

It's somewhat amusing how the ladies (Swed aside, that is) of MAL get angry at the lead. How different it would be if it was about a woman using her wiles to deceive foolish men! Light from Death Note was, viewed as a person, horrible. But he was loved as a character. Why was he loved? Because people could relate to his views and actions more than the 1000's of fake good-goody, easily pleased characters churned out on a regular basis. People loved Light because they could believe, without any hesitation, that such a cold, self-absorbed person could exist, away from the 2D arena. And that's why I liked this OVA so much: not because the lead was likable but because self-serving sociopaths do exist, much like easily fooled people also exist. I believe the Swed questioned the point of Blue Flames. In return, I'd like to ask what the point of numerous other short OVA titles is supposed to be. The point of Blue Flames is crystal clear: it was created to show the true ugliness of humans that gets overlooked in romanticized nonsense. |

Some sort of resolution was lacking. They made it seem like they were going to make a sequel or something. Not that I, or anyone else cares anyway... |

Personally I think Ryuuichi was much worse person than Makoto from School Days. From the start he was sleeping with different girls and all he wanted was money. No matter how to get it. He drive girl suicidal state, Because of him guy got kicked from school... and he just lying to everyone. And all this... because of money! I wonder though what he mean with that "Blue flame" in the end... I disliked this anime 2/5, because of Ryuuichi and because what he did and get away from that. |

lol @ you guys talking shit about him You should blame all those sluts that throw themselves at him instead. 1st girl was pretty much raped, but it was consensual b/c she didn't press charges after all that. Her slut tendency welcomed his rock hard cock, and she loved it. The hostess was pretty much 100% slut like all women, so that's that. The older lady from tennis club was throwing her slutty ass at him just to make her bf pay more attention to her. The banker's daughter was just a pure slut looking to have some fun. What did the guy do to get all this? Nothing. He just outwitted all of the sluts and beta-males while looking for ways to achieve his ambition. Sure, he could have acted a little better to not come out as very disrepectful person, but he just say whatever he wants on his mind as blunt as possible, not that there's anything wrong with that. Though it may seems wrong to most people, this is what you call an ' alpha-male'. Not to mention it was implied that he has a gigantic cawk. (no homo) |

This better have been AOTY when it aired. In all seriousness, this is a pretty damn realistic anime. I find it hard to believe that all the blame would be placed on the MC. Without going into my own beliefs and strictly from what we see, the women that MC is with either like him for his physical appearance or have some other intention (like the girl from the tennis club). It's not all MC being a douche. The girls he's with CLEARLY don't guard their hearts or bodies from people who truly don't care for them. And you know something? That's pretty damn realistic. I actually know someone who's close to me that has a life similar to the MC. I'm gonna be thrilled to see his reaction when I tell him there's an anime based on him. |

Him being an ass doesn't bother me. In fact, I like overly manipulative characters, but perhaps largely due to the length I found this show to be pretty uninteresting as I don't find the main characters motivations all that fleshed out or intriguing or the side characters even of remote interest. Aside from length I think part of the issue as well is you just don't know what led him to be that specific way. It also struck me that the MC does not come off as charismatic at all, something that detracts from the believability factor. A lot of this again though is likely just due to the short nature of the OVA, but at the end of the day I can't say I was entertained or disgusted. Instead I was left feeling like I watched something pointless and wasted my time. |

So, this is real sex? A young sociopath story? Very interesting idea, it is sadly too short to see it well exploited (lack of any real adversity: the women immediately fall and he's never worried by the victims of his choices or other persons ). But it made me curious about the manga. The obvious weakness is the badly drawn characters with bland faces (except a few correct close-ups), music was either forgettable or irritating. Enjoyment: 3.5-/5 Score: 4.5+/10 I want more: more details, more events and developments. |

As other have said, this story lacks a proper conclussion. Its not that the protagonist is a silly caricature of psycopathic womanizer, but there is nothing of interest by the end of the story. In fact, this has to be the most boring plot that I have ever seen in a OVA. The protagonist is a shallow character and all the events depicted are superfluous. It reminds me of these reality shows of trashy wanabe stars that you can watch in cable television. I whish the producers have selected a better manga to animate. This was a waste of time. |

I picked this up because it's one of the very few things made by Noboru Ishiguro that I had not watched. I'm disappointed though. I expected something with a lot more depth and quality. Having said that, this character is probably the complete and utter opposite of almost any modern male MC in anime (not saying that's a good thing, just pointing it out): |

Interesting OVA, which I really enjoyed. Too bad that there's no proper ending, otherwise I would've rated it higher. Another aspect which bothered me a bit, is how they almost glorified the actions of MC. They just showed us the highs from his perspective and never the fails, kinda wished that for a realistic story like this, tho. Still a neat watch overall. |

Rapist manipulates his way to the top and gets away with everything. Not only is the OVA's tone sexist, it wears it as a badge of honor - from its portrayal of women, to the direction of the rape scenes, to the music played whenever a girl succumbed to his will. Easily in my top 5 worst anime I have watched in my lifetime. 0/10. |
