| Nothing. Data has shown no increase in immigration from the United States to Canada after presidential elections with the victory of a polarizing candidate. It's human nature to overestimate how events which seemingly have a big impact on our lives. Some dreaded Obama getting elected, yet while they did experience a dip in happiness when that happened, they returned to their baseline of happiness shortly afterwards, because life goes on, and day-to-day happenings have far greater impact on our happiness than supposedly big events. Our mind is geared to psychologically handle emotional trauma. Another example of this is a wife excusing her husband's infidelity while being more exasperated with him not helping out with the dishes. |
