Overlordomination Is it common for a light novel to have late legs like that? I thought an anime boost is usually at its peak when the anime begins and only falls from there but this seems to be doing the opposite. Also, I would like to know how this boost compares to Danmachi's if anybody knows (thanks in advance). |

*3. 21,660 *21,660 Yakushiji Ryouko no Kaiki Jikenbo Vol.10 "Umi kara Nanika ga Yattekuru" Never heard of this before, shame it's untranslatedas it's my cup of tea. 10 books in 20 years is surprisingly few. Oh there's an anime as well, problem kinda solved. Not surprised to see Overlord selling a lot again this week, expecting a fair bit more before the anime ends. |

Xenocrisi said: summary of vol 1 which would give u a hint of the novelOverlord is everywhere. Is this LN - 12. *9,637 *11,473 Next Life Vol.8 - good? I think the MC's name is Yamagata Takashi (山田隆司, could be wrong abt romanji though), while his game name is Marius=Toban (マリウス=トゥーバン). Let me start by saying the light novel and webnovel version is significantly different (at least the start of it, not sure about later volumes). For the light novel version, Takashi has a little more in-depth talk with his friend during a mountain accident of sorts (they got trapped or something and dying of cold). Takashi happily talks about MMORPG to his friend but ultimately dies. When he wakes up, he finds himself in a surreal place (a forest), finding only his bare-bones MMORPG equipment on himself (which incidentally is high level equipment). He's a magician class who's capable of using Grade 1 magic (If I didn't read wrongly, grade 14 is the weakest magic while grade 1 is the highest), and after testing out several magic spells (almost overpowering levels), he starts to walk around and meets Annett アネット. At this point I am reminded a bit of Spice and Wolf's atmosphere. Takashi is unable to communicate with Annett, but after some hand gesturing and stuff, they sort of settled down into acquaintance mode. Not yet friends but not distant enough to be strangers. It gets a little more intriguing with the introduction of a half-beast pig-faced man(orc?) and half beast dog-faced man (kobold?) coming into the picture. Since Takashi is in a MMORPG mind state (duh these are monsters) attacks them with debilitation thunder! magic which stuns them, but Annett prevents him from doing any further damage. He soon realizes that the three are friends and refrains from attacking anymore, which appears to be a pretty intriguing start. Bookmeter and Amazon's rating for book 1 is pretty good too. So Takashi lived with them for about 2 months, picking up the world's language and becoming friends with them. This doesn't last too long as there are soldiers after the girl, although they don't really know the exact reason. They are soon surrounded by the soldiers without them realizing. Orc-dude suddenly says the only way to save Takashi is to pretend they are the bad guys and holds a weapon over him when they get cornered by the soldiers. Orc-dude threatens the soldiers that he's holding a mage (highly prized) that he kidnapped and says "If you want him to live, you better let us go!". Soldier-commander (thereafter SC) agrees, Takashi and the rest get a headstart to escape. Soldier-commander and the soldiers starts chasing after them, but Takashi stays behind casts [Flare] and [Thunder!] pretending to act like a clumsy mage, which hits all the soldiers. SC asks Takashi to stop firing magic and asks for his name. Takashi hesitates for a while and uses his in-game name Marius. SC brings Takashi to the duke, and after some condescending treatment, is asked to challenge the duke's top mage to prove himself as a worthy mage. MC obviously wins easily, using a grade 14 magic spell to beat a grade 7 magic spell with just pure power. He continues to stay with the duke until the mastermind shows up, who happens to be a lower class demon (who has a lot of people under her control) after Annett for her powers to control creatures and intends to serve her to her demon boss. MC does try to use his wit but doesn't outsmart the demon, and ends up choking the demon by removing the air (or something) after a magic fight. That's about it for volume 1. |

SAO 15 took 7 weeks to hit 300k Mahouka 16 took 4 weeks to hit 200k in both cases these are the fastest times of any volume to reach this figure. This is the 5th week for these volumes but they came out on Saturday, which was before the "official" release date of Monday, so it's effectively the 4th week. Incidentally someone mentioned a few weeks back about a retailer stopping reporting their figures to Oricon. Does anyone have a source on this as a somewhat unnatural number of series seem to have seen larger than usual sales drops over the last few months? |

BTW does those figures include the digital sales like amazon selling their kindle version of a lot of stuff? Do we even know what kind of ratio there is in sales between digital and physical? Thanks for the answer. BEsides hardcore otaku, I reaaaly doubt they are more akin to collect than western countries. One reason the DVD/BD are still stuck in the rental pricing after so long is because peoples don't buy, they rent in japan. Even if they lower the price, they still don't buy and keep renting. I can confirm the size of rental shops in japan is something else, and there's enough around for an easy access, we don't have that in France. A population who has a huge habit of renting can hardly go well with a habbit of collecting a lot of stuff. They may not like digital, but I don't think that has to go with collecting really, except for a minimal part of the population. |

Mecasonic said: According to this article on CNET Japan, when you look at the actual numbers digital books are performing in Japan as well as they do in America, representing roughly 10% of the entire book market in 2013. The amount of titles available from regular publishers are also comparable (taking into account the difference in population size), though self-publishing is far much more bigger in the West. Icehism said: But as far as i know, Mahouka and SAO don't have digital versions as Dengeki never gave them one. They actually announced a few days ago that they will release digital versions of all Mahouka, AW and SAO (including Progressive and Alternative) volumes over the next few months: http://mobile.dengeki.com/dbclub/ I see, thanks. So only 10% in average then. But since not every book has a digital version, it also means that for boks having a digital version, it may be quite a bit above 10%. Depends if most best sellers have a digital version or not, I suppose. |
