Another brilliant ep, for a second there i thought Taki-sensei mght resign especially seeing as he lost his cool over the blankets. I really feel sorry for Reina, as far as everyone will be 'pitching in' with the voting, her defeat is pretty much assured even if she is the better player, i still don't see her lying down and allowing the 2nd audition to happen, next ep will be great.

Why would kyoani focus so much on Kumiko & Reina if the anime would just reach this point? What an immoral thing to do

I guess Taki-Sensei would say to the students before the next audition that something similar to what Matsumoto-Sensei (the middle aged woman teacher when she met him duplicating the music seats) told him that time.
Such as "It's all up to you whether this vote is to decide a good sound or to choose your favorite girl. Either way, I will accept the result as an advisor and do my best for you because I'm not a commander or a ruler of this club, just an advisor for all of you."

Good episode overall.
I have come to hate Yuuko, why? Well just because the teacher know someone does not mean that they favor that person. In a music competition like this, you choose the best out of all the player to be in it. Yuuko's reason is so bs.
I love Reina's respond to Yuuko complain.
Second audition, well the result will be the same and hope this will teach Yuuko a lesson that your friend is not always the best just because they are your friend.

Why do care so much about who ships who?!

The reality is the people who are shipping the yuri couple are having fun with it. Even though they knew it was most likely a rouse or yuribait.

Its the people who are antagonistic towards the "yuri" shippers that are coming off like complete dicks.

The reality is there's no time for shipping at this point. The entire rest of the season is probably going to focus on Reina vs Kaori/Yuuko Trumpet face off and the sectionals right after.

just saying my thoughts on this...

i'm a non-shipper, i'm only here for the music, but since that epic episode 8 forums it was hell and not to mention 9....

Yuko accuses Taki-sensei of playing favorites, when her only reason for propagating those baseless rumors to push Kaori as soloist was the very fact that she was biased for her lesbian love. The only difference, of course, is that Taki-sensei actually heard the auditions of both people before making a judgment, unlike someone's blind, one-sided slandering. Typical lesbian crack whore.

I expect fine dining from Yuko's delicious tears next week as Reina crushes Kaori, this time in front of the entire band. Having to yield your seat to cater to the self-serving interests of someone older, but less experienced is a concept as absurd as it is self-destruction. Just because you worked hard doesn't mean you're entitled to everything you want.

Woah, so much hate Yuko, Ribbon-chan this episode. Personally, I don't really hate her, asking Taki-sensei upfront in that moment, I think is better than silent rumors that was spreading around the band. As far as I remember Yuko is not the one who spread that rumor she just heard it from those group of girls. Atleast, they got to hear what Taki-sensei got to say rather spread much more ridiculous rumor.

Seriously I have no idea what is up with everyone watching this show. It's like I'm the only one who loves it, but really does not like Reina. I've been in Concert Band before, and I was ALWAYS underminded by the better players. Do you know how it feels to achieve absolutely nothing compared to the better players in a band? Horrible, and thats why I can't stand Reina. Shes so full of herself, and that makes her come off as very rude to me. I seriously do not find a single thing lovable about her, as she is so rude. I was hoping for something depressing to happen for her to explain why she is full of herself, but no she is totally full of her self.

There I said it, I spoke out against the system. Also I don't like Yuuko either, I just agreed with her. Also I love this show a lot, and I do not hate it much like how I can't hate any other KyoAni(Except Free).

It's always the smallest fish that has the biggest mouths. They didn't practice and so, didn't get selected so instead of manning up, they blame the scapegoat. My, oh my, this is something we see so much in the real world, isn't it?

Actually in most cases at least where I am from nobody ever spoke out. Not even I, I just sat there and let these people trampled all over me. Did you know I was bullied even for being not as good as the higher ups. Something tells me everyone who watches this show was a higher up in band or something, because all I see is people praising Reina for being well a complete know-it-all jerk.

This series has succeeded in bringing back those memories, not from the show but mostly from all of the Reina love. I am just so confused on why everyone supports someone who is clearly well off, and gets all the praise. I entered this culture whenever I started concert band, and I thought it was a place for people like me who are always the people who are put down. I guess I am wrong, I really am in a culture of my own.

I'm not saying I hate the show at all, I just dislike one of the characters in it. Other than that this is the one show that got me excited during the Spring 2015 season, and the only one that I don't even have to question myself to watch. RE-KAN! is a close second though.

You're lucky then. Scapegoat blaming is a very prevalent thing. As for Reina, the reason is; these people don't practice. Then they complain when they get don't get selected and she does. The reason why people are supportive of Reina here is because she is the scapegoat. No one is gonna support bitches that blame the oh-so-convenient scapegoat for their own failures. I wouldn't call Reina a know-it-all jerk, more like a person that got pissed off because her hard-work was rejected and called fraudulent even simply because some bitches decided to make her the scapegoat. What Reina said there "Complain after you've surpassed me" is right. If you're gonna complain, you damn better make sure you can back it up.

I call her that because she has been going outside, and amazing everyone with her extraordinary trumpet playing skills since like episode 1. That literally screams someone who is a know it all. THAT is what tipped me off on it, and I highly dislike her. I am confused on why everyone likes her, and I have no idea what good they see because every moment where I think the show is about to redeem her it just sinks me back into disappointment.

Just to put things into perspective, Kaori isn't deluded to the fact that she doesn't play as well as Reina and neither did she complain. Yuuko challenged Taki because what she saw from Kaori is the exact opposite of how you described her, she's a hard worker and we see her making efforts to help her juniors improve, even leaving notes of encouragement on their scores.

I do like Reina for how ambitious she is, but this line "Complain after you've surpassed me" is both rude and accusatory, especially when we know Kaori herself didn't want to question the audition results. That comment was not much different from Yuuko's and perhaps even more harsh because she made no attempt to be subtle.

A good character doesn't necessarily have to be a good person. Reina is arrogant, selfish and unfriendly, but that's exactly why she works so well in the show: while everyone is busy talking shit behind each other's back, she just states what she thinks openly, and the sequence in episode 8 showed just how different her way of thinking is compared to the rest of the cast. Having a character like her makes you look at the show from another point of view, just like she can spot a side of Kumiko that not even Kumiko herself was aware of.
Plus, she probably works harder than anyone else, and that's another reason why fans support her.
Some of the hate for Yuuko/praise for Reina is unjustified and exaggerated, though. I think they both have a point.
Also, she's hot.

Being good doesn't make someone a know-it-all and from Kumiko's comments in the first episode, it seems that anyone with a music sense can say that the band was really that good anyways. The show is right to try to redeem her because she has done nothing wrong. Remember, it was the band itself that chose to be competitive.

We both know that comment was made to Yuko and not to Kaori. Remember, they are the people that chose to be competitive, be it for whatever reason. After that, they have absolutely no right whatsoever to complain for the better player to be selected. Sure, she thought Taki was being biased, but what does that make her? The only reason she ever complained was because she was butthurt that her beloved Kaori-senpai didn't get the solo part. She questioned the authority of the person that had heard both auditions, despite having heard neither and immediately assumed that Reina only got selected because of connections (after finding out about said connections). Now tell me, does she have any right to accuse Taki of being biased?

You again fail to see the point in what I am saying, I dislike her character because of how she acts. I don't know if it's just a personal thing or what, but I just really don't like how she acts. What I mean by "redeem her" I mean to redeem her to me . Like for example the scene in episode 10 when she walks out, I thought she was going to say something depressing that made me get why she was holding what she was good at so high. But no, simply she is a child prodigy who is really really undeniably good. To me that gets a little to real for me, and having living through being undermined even by the instructor(Who flat out told me I was nothing compared to the higher ups in my section, and I should just quit), I have to say I don't like her.

For clarification I am not referring to the episode 10 thing with Yuko, I am referring to her personality being similar to those who were in my concert band class.

When she says that she got chosen because she's better than Kaori, she's looking at Yuko actually. When she says the complain quote, both Yuko and Kaori are standing in a straight line of sight to her, so I'd say she's saying that to both at that moment as in, if you have a problem with the selection, complain with your actions and not with your words, as Yuko was doing.

She never directly says it but with her implications, she might as well have. She is fully aware that Yuuko is bringing this up because Kaori didn't get the part, as we see from her comment about being better than Kaori despite the fact that Kaori was not originally brought up.

Given this context, it makes sense that her comment 'complain after you're better than me' is aimed at Kaori, since she took what most of the band expected to be be Kaori's solo spot.

That comment implies that Kaori was the one who instigated everything Yuuko did since we know Kaori was not the one who brought up the topic.

The lack of Haruka screen time makes my butt itch. The only person to make up for the lack of Aoi-chan since her erasure from the show.
Lack of Hazuki and Sapphire screen time makes it worse...

Natsuki-senpai's waifu levels elevated to extreme levels. Asuka better watch her ass or I can do that for her

Super convenient audition cause bitching kids won't stop bitching.

Well, an overall good episode. 5 misplaced Kumikos/5

Kousaka is a bitch. Hopefully KyoAni does the most hipster thing ever and allows Kousaka to have her ass handed to her.

My guess is Reina clearly wins the audition. But gets voted down anyways, cause, yeah the people accusing Taki of bias aren't biased at all, pffft. Then it comes down to the section officers to say something.

Somehow, i think it comes down to Asuka. It would explain why it's important for Kumiko to get all serious with Asuka and ask her opinion. It would also explain the quick shot of her grinning after Kaori stood up to challenge.

Asuka said she doesn't "care who plays the solo." What she doesn't say is whether that person is the best. Asuka comes off as always thinking "what's best for the band". I think Asuka didn't want to be President cause she has a dark undertone to her personality and she might snap at the band causing discord. You can see it in the way she handles her section when they're not focusing.

Now let me get this straight. Kousaka has people screaming at her, whispering mean crap behind her back, and ganging up on her by flat out questioning the Teacher's authority. And SHE'S the bitch?

God forbid someone stands up for themselves and not take crap from biased haters.

Sure Kousaka made a crass comment towards them. But seriously if someone is getting in your face. You most likely aren't going to be the perfect lady when you fight back.

Show some respect to your sensei. Taki sensei is super awesome an the dub artist makes him more cool ( i don't his name). Reina will rein in the next episode that i am sure. Asuka's words were also pretty good cause why should she care who plays the solo or not as long as the best musician does it.In the next episode the students might get biased and vote against reina. The yuri rumour about reina and Kumiko ends here. I don't think reina would confess to taki sensei. Yuko was annoying . Natsuki seems to steal this episodes best girl title. Even after her defeat she was so calm and light hearted. This episode was fun.

... That's a contradiction. Just saying.

We both know that comment was made to Yuko and not to Kaori.

If so, the shot is poorly composed. Only Reina and Kaori are in the shot when Reina says "Complain after you've surpassed me", and Reina appears to be looking at Kaori. Furthermore, the statement doesn't make sense directed at Yuko: why must Yuko play better than Reina in order to complain about what she perceives to be an injustice? I think Reina intended the comment for Kaori, and I won't be surprised if she has to eat those words in the next episode. I won't be happy to see Yuko rewarded for her behavior, but I also think Reina needs to learn some humility.

This anime :
"Yuri Bait, stop the ship, wait here's a hug, yuri bait"
seriously from the anime ONLY, I really have a sense of yuri feels (even if Kousaka said she love Taki-sensei)

Humility? For what? For standing up for herself after being called a fraud? Do you realise how terrible it is for your reputation if you get labeled a fraud? And I've no doubt that most of the members of the club will vote for Kaori next episode but not because Kaori is better, but because they know her better... i.e. fraudulent behavior.

Omg Yuko! I seriously didn’t expect anyone to make a fuss like that :/ Reina was epic in her response though and that scream was hilarious. Asuka’s face before she played around with Kumiko cracked me up as well XD

I have no doubt in my mind that Reina will win that audition but I’d like to see the look on Yuko’s face when it happens. Kaori worked hard I get it but so did Reina and combining that with her natural talent makes her the obvious better choice.

Maybe I'm wrong but according to what I could hear, Kousaka said that she likes Sensei but it's not "love". Could someone confirm this?

I think she likes sensei but more like rabu/ 'love' kind of way. I think she means in a romantic kind of way. T^T

Kousaka gets more interesting with every episode, as does Asuka.
Also, I get that yuri bait is yuri bait, but why the heck is Kumiko looking at Shuichi all of a sudden? If she ends up with him, it's just too forced. Reina's the one sharing meaningful moments with Kumiko here; Shuichi is sort of just there.
