*9. *,494 **,494 Etotama Vol.1 Damn that came out early, like super early, episode 3 hasn't aired yet! Wish it had done better nonetheless, hasn't really given time for potential buyers to decide whether to buy or not (like me). A great opening doesn't mean a great series as it could go downhill. 10. *,333 **,333 Anime de Wakaru Shinryounaika Vol.1 "Muchimuchi Kikkou-hen" Deserves so much more sales, to be expected though, short shows rarely sell well. Don't really need to. Can't see it on CDJapan or AmiAmi unfortunately. 49. **,912 **,912 High School DxD BorN OP "BLESS YoUr NAME" by ChouCho Oh so low, granetd it's the weakest of the DxD OPs but it's still good. |

It's such a bigger market that it's not even a realistic comparison between an industry that regularly sells it's media in the 5-6 digit numbers against one that sells it's media typically in the 3-4 digit numbers. Plus when you have people purchasing for the software and with an event ticket no less...craziness. If other anime titles were in a position to do this (which I guess any of Bamco's titles are looking back on the Macross Frontier movie/game tie-in and the like) it'd change the landscape of the industry pretty much overnight. |

Hardly anyone will buy it for the "game" (lets players photograph idols). People will buy it for the anime, G4U is just a bonus. When Vol.1 (Imas 2011) bundled with Idolmaster 2, sales have not been taken into account because people buy it really for the game. |

If other anime titles were in a position to do this (which I guess any of Bamco's titles are looking back on the Macross Frontier movie/game tie-in and the like) it'd change the landscape of the industry pretty much overnight. You'd be surprised, particularly when they have lots of extras. 30-50K is hardly out of the question here. A lot of the time it's not about the quality of the game but the character brand too, something that Bandai Namco Games has really ridden to the bank of late though they get a tremendous amount of negative feedback for DLC schemes and quality control among other things as well. Let me put it this way though, I worked out the math and the Sword Art Online game tie in by them generated more revenue for Lost Song than the anime stands to make by the time all 9 of it's volumes are out over the course of the next few months. The difference between the game and anime media markets are that stark. Here's the math which isn't going to be 100% accurate since it uses predictive estimates for the last few anime volumes: Lost Song 139,298 (units) x 12,000 (yen) = 1,671,576,000 yen 55,090 (units) x 6,290 (yen) = 346,516,100 yen Total=2,018,092,100 yen or 16,872,683 USD Vs. Season 2 15,000 (assumed average BD unit sales given the first 5 volumes) x 9 x 6,610 (yen) = 892,350,000 (yen) 3,000 (assumed DVD average sales given the first 4 volumes) x 9 x 4,980 = 134,460,000 (yen) Total= 1,026,810,000 (yen) or 8,583,115 USD That was for release week for the game too. It's well over 200,000 copies sold by now. Kuruba said: Hardly anyone will buy it for the "game" (lets players photograph idols). People will buy it for the anime, G4U is just a bonus. When Vol.1 (Imas 2011) bundled with Idolmaster 2, sales have not been taken into account because people buy it really for the game. That logic makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If that were the case the anime version would be the one predicted to sell better and we wouldn't even be having this conversation cause it wouldn't be a factor since the anime disc has all the extras that the game version does aside from the game itself. iDOLM@STER started as a game franchise and became popular that way in the first place, not as an anime though it certainly didn't hurt as is usually the case with multimedia brands. The bulk of it's revenue comes out of the video game portion of the brand as well. Otaku will do weird shit with their money as well with photography games like this being an example of that. If I'm not mistaken I believe the first animes G4U packages sold in the 30K range. Sorry but if the package is listed as a game by every major retailer, is being sold by a video game publisher, and will be tracked sales wise by video game tracking charts as opposed to Oricon then no matter how you try to spin it and what you want to believe the game is the core product plain and simple end of story. It's just raw fact. |

I think people are actually underestimating it. The likelihood of 6 digit numbers is pretty much nil, but 30-50K is hardly out of the question. Remember again this is a strong character brand with a strong loyal fan following, quite often the style of the game and it's quality really won't put that much of a damper on such things as long as fans get their favorite idols being cutesy. Will it sell as much as a core iDOLM@STER game like One For All? Hell no. Will it do okay as a multimedia package with tons of extras? I really don't see why not. |

I think that simple fact trumps pure speculation and spin does it not? Also the G4U costs 9,698 while the anime costs 5,494 yen. This is not a case of them being similarly priced, it's a different overall package in a different market set by a different publisher than the anime disc. Anime discs typically do not sell for this kind of money unless they are part of a special package, but premium collectors edition video game packages do indeed. Anyway I don't know why some people are fighting so hard on this point, like it's just beyond the point of arguing given the categorization and everything else. Even if people don't like the idea of a photography sim being classified as a game I'd just as soon argue that if visual novels can somehow get classified as PC Games by retailers than it is what it is. Don't argue with me, argue with the publishers in question. |

I also thought of the price differential here. It seems it is actually the G4U game plus the anime discs, because it would truly be just a bonus if it was the same price as the standalone BDs. But it doesn't matter, as it seems this is their magic formula to sell more discs than they would've, because the CD sales are really indicative of how much smaller the fanbase of Cinderella Girls is compared to the original Idolmaster. We can compare this to Love Live! and the 2nd Season, which did not go this route. The BD volumes are exactly the same price as normal 2ep ones (Vol.1 only had 1 ep, so it is discounted as normal), with the bonuses tacked on. They did not go and make standalone discs with an event ticket bundled, and then made a higher priced package with the PS Vita games plus the anime BD volume. I would expect it to have sold even higher had this occurred, since it seems the PS Vita game market differs from the anime buying fanbase. We can see this in the difference in sales for the PS Vita game CD single (which is at 40K), vs all the other singles (which are at 60K~100K). Clearly singles not associated with the anime or the mobile game end up tanking, which makes it highly likely the the upcoming single on Apr 22 will only be able to do around 40K or so. Hopefully I am wrong about that, but trends seem to suggest this. |
