So this is my first anime review.Particularly I felt the need to review this anime because I’ve indulge myself in both the Kancolle game and other things related to it for quite a long time. I'm no expert in anime/manga related matters but I suppose sharing my thoughts on this anime might help give a little bit of insight to fellow anime watcher who have decided to check it out.

Story - (6/10)
“Kantai Collection, also known as KanColle, is an online browser game in which one assumes the role of an admiral, assembles a fleet of kanmusu ("ship girls" based on World War II-era ships and read more

I didn't have high expectations going into the series but I was still pretty hyped for KC’s anime adaptation. Boy was this adaptation pretty disappointing. Why did Kirishima remove her glasses for no reason? There were so many awkward movements and bug eyed blobs everywhere; seems like they ran out of budget by the final episode and production just didn't give anymore fucks. The ending explained nothing important at all. The details became quite blurred literally and figuratively. I hope season 2 makes the purpose more clear and sticks to it but god, this shouldn't have gotten a sequel read more

If you're looking for a new anime to watch this isn't the one , unless you like moe ship girls.
From my POV this anime is merely a fan service anime for people who happen to play and enjoy Kancolle -like myself- but its NOT the ecchi kinda of fan service .

The anime focus on showing the life of the ship girls in battle and mostly outside of battle , having Fubuki as the main character in school like environment.

sadly the story barely make any sense , there is no clear sign where things are going or whats the grand goal behind all of this. read more

You know what's great? Cute girls. You know what's even better? Playing a game filled with them. Even better? The fact that they all have good artists and VAs. The best part? The diversity of girls makes it so anyone can find a favorite. You'd think it wouldn't be difficult to make a Kancolle anime considering there are anime with similar kinds of situations such as Strike Witches and Girls und Panzer, but instead of having a healthy balance of slice of life and battles, Kancolle just jumps around everywhere, making for a jarring experience.

The story is heavily divided, with multiple parts with their own read more

A group of girls based off of or using historical world war 2 weaponry (in Kancolle's case, naval, in Strike Witches', aviation) to battle a mysterious threat with an unknown goal.
Moe girls who do cute things often, both use WWII era weaponry. Though Girls und Panzer isn't actual war, the battles still get about as tense as KanColle
1. Enemies from unknown origin take over the seas.
2. Humans fight back.

KanColle: More lighthearted + sorta dull aside from some cute slice of life. Fine for spending free time on if you have nothing else to do. Treat like any slice of life.
Ars Nova: Exciting, intelligent, better fights, better usage of CG animation, better character development, better "powers", etc. Main downside is less yuri. I don't really care much about the ship girls thing, but this anime was a real "page-turner" when it aired. KanColle was more like "oh the next ep is out".
Both anime are based on video games with a large all-girls cast. The plot revolves around battle and conflict with a rival faction or group of enemies. In KanColle, the girls are incarnations of battleships and participate in naval fights. Whereas in Senran Kagura, the fight is between Light and Dark shinobi (ninja) - fanservice present.
I get the same feeling watching both even though the settings and plots are different. They both have cute girls enrolled in a special school who are making friends and being carefree (for the most part). And both shows have a few serious/sad moments but overall they are lighthearted, fun, and easy to watch.
Two sci-fi-ish anime that are basically advertising for something else, AKB0048 for AKB48, a popular idol group, and KanColle for an online game of the same name. They both feature cutely designed girls with stock personalities that represent the spirit of something else (past idol group members vs. Japanese warships) and participate in battles wearing skirts, magical-girl style. For two such ridiculously conceived anime they are both surprisingly watchable with quite a bit of effort being put into their animation. If you really liked one of these anime, the other will probably scratch your itch for it.
