Great character development in this episode.
It came as no surprise that griffith was gay, but it was disgusting, i dont mind him being gay, but a manwhore is just not acceptable and a suicidal one too. lol.

caska looked better younger long hair, I think she wouldave been ownage with long hair now she'd probably look like someone outta claymore.

Wow, funny how the first discussion board for this show is on an episode that shows rape and hints at gay sex.

I don't think he's gay per se, but he obviously puts his dream above his own body.

Griffith is not gay, he was just willing to do anything to achieve his dream and protect his men. It may have been shameful what he did but I for one respect it.

you respect a guy for letting another guy enter him from behind?

this applies to both men and women but selling your body to get what you want is in no way worthy of respect in my opinion.

His sacrifice of himself for something more important is a brave move. Those were the times. And in his condition, when his dream is all he has in front of his eyes, using this old man is a minor thing.
What else would you suggest?

Awesome ep! Caska's and Griffith's past roled into one. Griffith is a great man, no question about it. He knows what he must do to fulfill his dream. And, you don't get anymore compassionate then Caska's character...

I didn't realize what had happened until I rewinded it. @ LiarK: He's getting porked for his dream. I really don't find any pride or braveness in that.

He's not proud of it and he admits that, but that's what he found the best for him to do in order to advance with his achievements. Maybe it does lack bravery, but still, to endure such deeds you have to be strong and determined. That's all.

Selling his body for money might not be worthy of respect (who knows. It's a matter of opinion), but you have to admit that Griffith is very strong and determined, like LiarK said, and honestly, I admire him for not giving up on his dreams no matter what. That's worthy of respect.

"Would you have sex with a stranger for a million dollars?"

I think a lot of people would say yes to that. At least when I take a detached view of the situation, I don't think Griffith did anything particularly outlandish, considering what he got out of the deal. It was a logical and straightforward method of getting the money he needed to fund his mercenary band. What is his pride, or whatever sense of revulsion he may have had, next to that?

It really didn't come as a surprise to me for what he did in order to get money to help pay for costs of the entire band of the hawk. I really wasn't a huge fan of Griffith from the very first episode, somehow I could tell even then we was pure evil and would only use people.

It was a nice flashback of Caska and Guts. It made me understand more about Caska and why she is such a true follower of Grifith. Its too bad that she cut her hair though, for I think she looked a lot better with longer hair. LoL

Such an emotionally packed episode.

Grifith and Caskas pasts.
Grifith proving that he will do anything to obtain his dreams and to allow the dreams of those under him to come to pass as well.

By having sex Grifith stopped the death of his soldiers.

lol. Damn intense. I'm not as strong as Griffith. What a strong and determine guy...but he's also a bit crazy which isn't good, scratching his arms like that.

This show is deeper than I expected. I thought it would just be brutal, but I'm glad it can get me thinking.

And at midpoint, this series is reaching a whole other level of depth and drama. This was indeed great development, I love it when stories aren't afraid to show what people are capable of doing, and Berserk shows it realistically despite all the fantasy medieval setting.

I'm not sure if you can call abandoning his pride and sleeping with a man in order to lower the amount of casualties "pure evil".

I don't know about the "protect his men part".. or "for the band of the hawk".

Griffith is a conflicted character. On the face of it, he does everything for himself; the exception being Gatsu.

Geezus! I've always thought that Casca was a sickeningly annoying character, but she really took it to the limit in this episode. Guts should have left her to drown and saved himself. Not too sure how much more of this wench I can stand.

As for Griffith, after reading a few of the posts, can it be safely assumed that Griffith was letting that noble bend him over? Perhaps, Griffith was bending the noble over?

This is the episode that break down the differences of the three main characters, and which will determine the outcome of their endeavors. Griffin yes he's strong, smart, and will do anything for his cause. Basically good for him, but bad for anyone who follows him. Guts may not be smart and charismatic, but he stands firm in his beliefs. He is also loyal as comrade. Also unlike Griffin he doesn't use others weaknesses to get what he wants. I got to respect a man who willing to stand alone, fight, and die for what he believes in. Casca is stronger than most of her male peers in every way. However she's destined for failure. She has yet learned to believe in herself as an adult and still follow someone else seeking their approval and guidance. If she can ever learn to believe and fight for Casca, she'll become a great character for this series.

I think she looks fine with short her. Suits her. But would suit her more if she was white. Especially with hair like that. And why the hell was Griffith scratching his arms like that!? I dunno why but I feel there's some dark secret he's hiding. Sometimes it feels like he's evil and some kind of demon pretending to be human. Something is up with him.

Didn't really surprise me. I mean he did show his crazy eyes a few times before, so you know there's a few screws rattling around in his head.
If you can spot a pun in here, I swear not intended lol.
