The fact that he makes his own little daughter take naked pictures of how much she's grown is sick, but I think him erasing everyone important in her life is worse.

Her mom also looks badass.

Rea is weak-willed, she actually attempted to kill herself lol.

Wow, Rea's father is by far the most messed up person I've seen in anime. If being an incestuous pedo isn't bad enough, he has to go out of his way to carefully manipulate who his daughter is allowed to interact with. (Yeah, I know it's been said like, 50 times already.)

If that wasn't a joke, you are just as disgusting as he is. And even if it is, it really isn't in good taste.

They did a good job portraying the father as a giant scumbag. I think coachroaches have more morals than Rae's father.
Hopefully, in the future episodes, there will be swift and deserved retribution.

So far, one of the top series to follow this spring.

Honestly, if you were placed in such a situation, I think any sane person would have at least thought of that. Not only do you have no one to trust and confide in, the only person able to support you is the one putting you through this hell.

Yeah, I definitely don't think most people are in a position to call her weak-willed for trying to kill herself. I think I would have tried running away first, seeing as how she can occasionally escape supervision, but it's hard to say not being in that situation. There are many, many factors to consider.

Thought this was pretty funny. Not sure how a joke about fiction can be in poor taste.

Im not sure if her dad is a perv or if him taking those photos was just a wierd obsessive way of something along the lines of not wanting her to hide anything from him and basically forcing openness and 'love" from her onto him. Either way hes a really horrible person for being so controlling and hurting her like that taking any friends away from her.

Lol. To put one in someone's shoes means to also put that person's environment, past experience and personality into consideration. You are not "weak" because you were raised differently. Your personality has been built in a different environment. Now, rewind time and erase your memories and put yourself in her shoes.

Time to stop the "oh I am so great and above" ego boosting.

I think what I was trying to say is that you can understand why she did that and if you were put in this situation, perhaps you would have found a reason to keep living, but you would still have considered the option. Really, to have your own father chase away the people you care about, restricting you from leaving the house, sexually abusing you and basically controlling every facet of your life, I personally would begin to lose sight of why I want to continue living. With no goals, no people to interact with other than your abusing father and uncaring mother and stuck within the confines of your own house (basically a prison), I can see that you just eat, sleep and get abused.

If your reasoning is along the lines of "there's no actually physical abuse going on", then may I add that psychological abuse is most often far worse than physical abuse. Even in physical abuse, the problems stem from the psychological impact of it. Even the deepest cuts heal in time, but the brain either remembers everything (leading to depression or fixation on the situation) or adapts to forget it (in the process causing other things to go wrong, perhaps leading to things like dissociative identity disorder or antisocial behaviour).

I thought this episode was slightly more entertaining than the first but I feel like something is missing from the whole production so far. This episode had lots of neat little visual cues to pick up on that might be considered foreshadowing but was light on substance itself. I definitely feel like the anime is either trying to find it's tone or is just stalling for time because there isn't enough manga material to work with.

Rea's flashbacks were fine for little bit of development but her story wasn't particularly original or interesting. I've seen the same thing done in other anime with more emotional impact. In this case I think there was this general feeling of disconnect for me because of the lack of some kind of stamp of originality to differentiate this from other tragic childhood's I've seen in anime. I've seen plenty of others that were far more heinous or played in a far more believable manner.

I just feel like both of these episodes have plodded along with not a whole lot going on before showing something shocking at the ending to make me think more had actually had in the episode. Hopefully theses sudden mood shifts won't become the norm for this show because that will get annoying real fast.

Not to say that I hate this show or anything. I think the animation and general visual style are both very good. And Rea and Chihiro's interactions have been kind of cute so far.

Still it's better to continue on living depending on someone and when you're still that young, if they are trying to depict that state mind, then they are doing a poor job of it.

At the end of the day, it's fictional. But it's too weak I didn't feel anything but disappointment.

Biggest surprise of the season, since I didn't even want to watch this to start with.
I love the fact that although we get Chihiro as the main protagonist it's Rea whose mainly interested in him, instead of the other way around (although I'm aware that will probably change soon).
While I'm really not a big fan of the ecchi genre, I suppose I can tolerate it as long as it's in smaller doses - the way it's happening now. (why are you watching an ecchi anime if you don't like the genre...?)
I absolutely love Rea's backstory and the fact that it actually fits in well with the plot, it's not just random melodrama without reason. Both of the voice actors are really good and the characters match each other so well. I think it would be better without the cousin, but oh well, somebody has to provide the tit service.
Either way, loving this so far.

Suicidal thoughts are much stronger when you're an adolescent. Plus, she only just got to know Chihira and was forbidden from seeing him ever again, so in her place I think anyone's thoughts would be very similar. Not only is she going through her father's abuse, but she also must feel impossibly lonely because of what he's doing.
