Kirino Kousaka embodies the ideal student with equally entrancing looks. Her grades are near perfect, and to cover her personal expenses, she works as a professional model alongside her best friend Ayase Aragaki, who abhors liars and all things otaku. But what Ayase doesn't know is that Kirino harbors a deep, entrenched secret that will soon be brought to light.

At home one day, Kyousuke, Kirino's perfectly average brother, stumbles upon an erotic game that belongs to none other than his seemingly flawless little sister. With her reputation at stake, Kirino places a gag order on her sibling while simultaneously introducing him to the world of eroge and anime. Through Kirino, Kyousuke encounters the gothic lolita Ruri Gokou and the bespectacled otaku Saori Makishima, thus jump-starting an entirely new lifestyle. But as he becomes more and more involved in his little sister's secret life, it becomes that much harder to keep under wraps.

There are many questions in anime that have puzzled even the wisest of scholars.

What IS the One Piece? Would Gojo win? Did Hachikuji actually stutter?

And among those riddles, one stands tall. One stands above the rest.

Is there possibly a way that Kyousuke Kousaka's little sister can be THAT cute?

...I actually thought she was fine?

To be honest, if they REALLY wanted spineless wish fulfillment, they could have easily made Kirino some fluffball "do your best, onii-chan!" little sis but giving her some kick at least makes it seem like he's TRYING to fulfill a somewhat realistic big brother x little sister ship (...I assume, I don't ... have a little sister).

Which I guess should bring me to a big warning flag in case you somehow are not aware:

This is a story that is a big brother x little sister romance. If that is something that you are not only not into but you can't even stomach watching it, obviously do not watch "There's No Way My Little Sister Can Be This Cute"

But yeah, poorly written tsunderes can get on my nerves because it's simply just pride that stops them from asking MC to fuck them but, like, Kirino has so much on the line, even taking Kyousuke out of the equation. Like, her otaku lifestyle proves time and time again to be a snakebite for her socially, so no wonder she's so defensive about it. And as for her feelings for her brother... I mean... do I even need to explain why it'd just be easier to be all tsun about it? Even if Kyousuke said "yes, sister, I love you too, let's get married", it's not like they could legally or socially do that.

Although I say that, but people seem surprisingly open to saying shit like that?

There are multiple occasions and multiple people who say something like "aw, how cute! You and Kirino are on a date!" or something like that and, yeah, they basically are but I could not imagine implying a brother and sister pair were on a date unless, like, the sister's hand was actively down her brother's pants.

I'm not saying Kirino NEVER got on my nerves but I thought she was totally fine. She even made me laugh a few times (like when she went out of her way to kick Kyousuke's door while walking to hers) AND she's a woman of culture! Not necessarily the little sister eroges but you can clearly see she loves the School Days series and as a School Days defender, I can respect the hell out of that.

I think to reduce Oreimo to "ha ha big bro wants to fuck his little sis" is a bit reductive. Yes, that is indeed part of Oreimo, but it's also got things to say about otaku culture.

Kirino is this perfect little princess but has to hide her otakuness so her family and friends aren't ashamed of her and thanks to Kyousuke, she finds her own little group of friends to spend time with and I just think that's pretty cool.

Seeing Kuroneko acting like a chuuni dork in broad daylight and Saori wearing a ridiculous outfit and speaking funny and just being themselves? That's so fire. I think there's a timeline where Kyousuke is just... a good brother and he marries Manami while he helps out Kirino so she can be her true self and find friends who appreciate her for her and this show wouldn't get the flack that it does (although, admittedly, it also likely wouldn't be nearly as popular).

IMO, speaking of her friends, I think Ayase is really the only character I didn't care for. She has some yandere moments and I do like those but for most of the season, she's kind of the puritan tsundere where she relies on Kyousuke to patch things up with Kirino but she's also like "ew, anime!"

But Kuroneko, Saori, Manami, the Kousakas, very cool.

Although, I'm kinda confused as to why they're building a harem? It seems both Kuroneko and Manami are into Kyousuke as well as Kirino and like I get Manami and ONE love rival would be fine. But Kuroneko? Hello? What is this? I never really got that vibe, I saw Kyousuke x Saori as more of a possibility.

I am far from being above a trashy harem show but, like, what's the point in a series like this? It's literally a series about how his little sister cannot be this cute and it is clearly not just speaking platonically if such a thing could exist.

Obviously Kyousuke is going to choose Kirino, why are we going through with this song and dance?

I thought it was cool how much effort they put into it that they didn't need to. Most of the episodes had unique EDs and the OP had a lot of changing visuals over the course of the series and, like, they did NOT need to do that but they went out of their way to do that.

One thing that grinded my gears was the novelist/anime little arc.

So Kirino decides to become a novelist, right? Sounds fine to me. But the first novel she writes is shitty schlocky poorly written fanfiction (mood) about how Kirino is so awesome. And that makes sense as a starting point, but within the SAME EPISODE, she becomes a highly successful novelist who is professionally published and she ends up getting an anime??

I get there's only so much time but that feels like something that could have taken a season alone if so inclined.

If you can ignore the big incestual elephant in the room, personally, I unironically enjoyed this show a lot more than I thought I would. I thought the cast was good, it was funny, it was surprisingly touching at times.

Like, I guess this is kind of the point but it kinda feels like covering your own tracks to have "There's No Way My Little Sister Can Be This Cute" be the show to talk about how people are too close-minded about otakus and how it can actually be this really cool thing but I mean, when you're right, you're right.

Mixed Feelings

An easy way to describe this anime would be the brother MC is essentially a punching bag.

There are also way too many tsundere's in this anime, even the dad is a tsundere, where most of them are more tsun than dere.

What this show has going for it is literally just the titles for each episode are funny and memes at this point. The rest of the show is honestly not the best for an enjoyable pleasant watch.

Specifically, both main characters brother and sister are not that great. The sister, Kirino, is violent and continuously hostile to her brother. While he himself feels like an ... empty shell of a character which we know very little of since the story basically never shows much about him or his achievements.

While I do understand it is in a sense realistic, since most siblings would do anything for each other in the real life even if it meant harm to themselves. It wasn't a fun or great thing to watch take place. Rather it often created unnecessary drama in what is supposed to be a Comedy and Slice of Life. I will say though it did feel like they acted like their age somewhat being teenagers.

The animes side characters being the friends really is what saved this show from being worse off than it is. Most of them(Manami, Ruri, Saori) are pretty likeable characters with some hinted background depth we did not get to experience much, but i'm sure that will come later.

The OP was alright and it seems they changed the ED's every episode, but they honestly sounded a bit of the same I hardly noticed. The different scenes during the ED were a nice touch though.

Overall, this wasn't as funny of a show in my opinion. It was rather lacking and focused too much on the drama between siblings with beatings seemingly placed as the punchline for comedy. It wasn't bad at times, but those moments were short lived when it would go back to the main characters tiring sibling feud. There's just too many unlikeable characters creating annoying moments that it ruins the mood of this show in the end.

Oreimo or Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai is one of the more unique experiences in the anime genre. The first season is full of messages about relations, societal norms, family expectations, and etc. While the series can be seen just for its fixation on little sisters and the eroge side of the anime genre, a huge overlooked part of the series’ are its messages. These messages say things about parts of society, hobbies, and relationships/friendships. The convey experiences that are relatable and hard to miss.



While the season does a great job in its messages, the fan service as a whole ... is over the top and can be a big deal breaker. This can make the story uncomfortable to watch especially when the subject of the season is the protagonist’s little sister, while this alone would not be as bad. The particular genre of eroge in question is about little sisters falling in love their older brothers. In combination with the multiple misunderstandings, the title, and the fanservice moments, the tone of the series makes it harder to watch than it already is. The characters while expressive and in depth, the personalities tend to be on the more extreme side and as a result makes it harder to relate to the characters for their struggles and hardships. Especially the tsundere nature of Kirino is harsh and unfortunately does not have any redeeming qualities. Kirino is a huge offender of being extremely natured, she’s otaku culture personified and being portrayed as a “perfect” person on the outside just goes to show otaku culture in lighter shade. This by itself is not a bad thing per se but can be viewed negatively when paired in junction with the overall topics of the show. Kirino in essence feels like a portrayal of otaku culture and nothing more. She feels like has no other purpose but to be act as the doorway to otaku culture that has been mentioned.



Despite my criticism for the series, Oreimo with its extreme approach and characters to telling its story, the characters being as extreme as they are pivotal in helping the story move along its tracks. A part of the show’s charm is how extreme it is with its ideas. In addition, the extreme approaches to the story helps further push the story along the The story being character driven helps the execution of the story. The messages being about society and relationships The messages are fruitful and can easily be applied to ourselves as we have had situations we can use to relate to the series. And the protagonist can be seen as helpful and does not have any deal breaking flaws that make the protagonist hard to like. This goes for the majority of the cast, aside for a certain little sister. However, even when the series can be extreme they are still grounded to reality. While the execution of some of these situations are out of the ordinary, the bare bones of the most of the situations in this series, are plausible in real life. While the series does have an extreme approach to fan service, as the story progresses, the series tones down the fan service towards in the latter half of the season. 



Unfortunately, I found the season one of Oreimo immensely uncomfortable to watch even with its upsides and the toning down of the fanservice. The topic of eroge gives the story an undertone that would be hard to miss even when the fanservice gets milder. I would say if you can stomach the fan service or do not mind it, give the series a try because of the series’ messages. However the series is not something I would say a majority of people would enjoy. I cannot say I enjoyed the series because of how much of an impression certain factors of the series give. For example, Kirino if replaced by a male character would have been seen more as a creep due to her interests in eroge and little sisters falling in love with their older brothers. And while I mention the fan service of the series gets toned down, it leaves enough of an impression to effect the subtone of the series. Despite the praise I have given this installment, after some thought, I would say I give season one a 2/10. While this series can be enjoyable and entertaining to some, it caters to a very specific audience. This is not a show to watch without knowing what you’re getting into and definitely shouldn’t pick up on a whim.
