Genshiken is another anime to talk a lot about otaku culture. It's less focused on romance, and there isn't any sibling drama, though. There is, however, still SOME romance. In Oreimo, you have Kirino and her otaku friends, but in Genshiken, you have an entire club of otaku who do similar things to Kirino like playing games, going to Akihabara, and going to Comiket.
Both series have similar characters and both revolve around otaku culture.
Both shows deal with otakus and otaku culture around them. While Genshiken delivers a much more realistic approach, OreImo shows a more idealistic approach
Both shows also have traces of romance in them, where Genshiken is once again a more mature approach while OreImo is a more incestual approach
Both series are about a circle of otaku friends, their daily life, and romance. In Genshiken it's college students, in Oreimo high schooler. Both are doing an episodic walk-trough of stereotypical events and themes in an otaku's life, such as visits to Comiket, cosplay, consumption of eroge, shopping in Akihabara and so on. Both have similar bantering humor among the group members. Oreimo puts more emphasis on the romance sub-plot, as it doubles as incest dramedy, Genshiken is more grown up.
