LOL. I'm 100% sure this is the final version of that key visual.

It looks like a Josei anime, since when does Seinen have art like that.

Kinda late but I seriously cannot wait for this. They even got BOC to perform the theme songs, neat! I heard the manga author is also a huge Shinbo fan, so this could be somewhat interesting.
Keeping cautious optimism for this one.

Didn't even have to think twice about watching this with Shaft at the helm.

Can't wait <3

>Monogatari director
>Toradora composer

Oh yeah.

Shinbo is actually directing this? Not just being chief director?

Huh. Still not looking forward to this (such a miscast with staff) but since this is oriented for mainstread audience (NHK) maybe shaft will go low on their cheap gimmicks & self indulgent antics.

With that director, no matter the source material, this is already bound to be a masterpiece.

The designs are good and all, but give me those head tilts XD
In all seriousness, the source material seems to be good. Hopefully it's a loyal adaptation.

I hope that they take it easy on the head tilts for this one

key visual actually looks pretty nice, i'm not gonna lie
having osomatsu-san person on art director makes me happy

i don't care much for akiyuki shinbou but i hope this guy doesn't fuck it up

It's definitely not going to have the same feel as Honey & Clover. (which makes me sad tbh)

Shaft, Shinbo, PLEASE don't fuck this up.

Ahhhh, can't wait. Manga is great :)

Design looks good. Will watch for sure. I don't think Shaft style is suitable for this series though.

Hoping the characters don't get too much influence from the other shaft works "aka neck twist". The art is pretty good the manga, so hoping it looks pretty good in the adaption.

Oh it's awesome that another Chika Umino manga is getting an adaptation. Not sure if Shaft and Shinbou are the right people to animate it (was expecting JC Staff) but we'll see, I'm still greatly looking forward to it.

Same guy who did the character designs for Nisekoi, they were pretty good imo so there's a big chance the characters will look good

All the Monogatari Series, Nisekoi, Denpa Onna, Mekakucity Actors, ef and Arakawa under the bridge felt a little bit empty to me. I think it's because they didn't bother to draw the background characters or their faces so kind of felt lonely tbh. It might just be me though.

I don't agree. I think that severed the purpose of focusing on the characters, and show how the characters themselves view their surrounding. This is especially apparent in the monogatari series. The backgrounds usually feel like there is something going on, and it feels alive with little subtle movements, which is more important that background characters faces imo.

I don't think calling the background empty for the lack of background characters is fair, it's just one aspect, but fair enough.

No matter how I look at it, it just feels empty. Even the backgrounds usually feel plain. I appreciate the concept but I'm not fond of it. I don't have the perfect worlds to define the feeling but lets just say it feels like some post-apocalyptic world. Still for Monogatari Series, the dialogue does make up for the lack of background detail. I still remember seeing that park scene in Bakemonogatari after Hitagi crab and just questioning that where has everyone disappeared to?

However for the series like 3-Gatsu no Lion, I believe background matters a lot to create the atmosphere.

I think you mean Nisekoi, which tbh is the fault of the source material. Most SHAFT shows have great backgrounds, often stunning.
