Kaitani serialized the psychological manga in Young Jump from February 2005 to January 2015. Shueisha published the 19th and final volume in April 2015.

Shueisha published an anthology manga titled Liar Game: Roots of A from September 1999 to January 2004, and also published a one-shot sequel in February 2010.

Liar Game also received a live-action drama airing in 2007 and 2009, two live-action movies in 2010 and 2012, and a stage play in 2023.

Synopsis
College student Nao Kanzaki has always adhered to her name's meaning: "foolishly honest." However, after opening an unsolicited package containing one hundred million yen, she inadvertently accepts an invitation for the "Liar Game." In this tournament, contestants are encouraged to betray and deceive their opponents to gain a massive amount of cash; conversely, losing will incur a lifetime debt. With all hopes lost, her only option left is to seek help from a con artist.

On that same day, the infamous swindler Shinichi Akiyama is finally released from jail. This former psychology student is known for single-handedly bankrupting an entire company, and Nao believes he is her only chance at escaping her dire situation. At first, Shinichi is hesitant to commit another crime, ignoring Nao and her request. But after seeing her desperation and persistence, he agrees to assist her.

In this fraudulent world, Nao and Shinichi have their own motives. Yet, soon they see the true nature of not only the game, but also everyone involved. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I'm so happy, I could cry! I've been waiting years, I honestly thought Liar Game was too niche to get a modern adaptation so long after serialization.
I really couldn't ask for any other studio either, omg. I'm going to be INSUFFERABLE when this airs, god BLESS.

Oh WOW! This is definitely exciting news. MADHOUSE has excellent taste when it comes to choosing manga for anime adaptations. I'll be looking forward to watching an anime adaptation for 'Liar Game'.

If the time comes for a 'Billy Bat' and '20th Century Boys' anime adaptation, MADHOUSE is the only studio I trust to adapt both of them.

Finally, I've watched two live-action series based on this manga, one Japanese and one Korean, but they just weren't good enough!

Ahhh, I've waited years for this!

Madhouse, don't mess this up. Give it as many episodes as it needs!

Unexpected decision, and a good choice on top of it. Never got around reading the manga due to its length, now I'll be able to (partially) fix that. God bless Madhouse.

I am speechless. I never expected this manga to get an anime adaptation in just one day. Liar Game is a very good manga, highly recommend it. Let's see how the adaptation will be.

Wow, I didn’t expect an adaptation of Liar Game that far after the final volume released. And from Madhouse too!

I wouldn’t mind revisiting the story in anime form (since most arcs are amazing) but the manga relies heavily on talking and explaining things, so I wonder how they’ll manage to make it interesting for unfamiliar viewers.

thats it guys, the smartest manga in history is getting adapted. Japan can stop making anime after this, theres nothing else left. and prepare your blocknotes, cause those strategies are gonna fry half of your braincells.

Watched the live action 4 years ago, and I really loved it. It’s one of my favorite manga live action adaptations along with Alice in Borderland.
Of course I really excited for the anime adaptation!

this is so fucking hype

It's always nice to see older and already finished manga get an anime adaptation.

@Saiche must be capitalizing on the renewed genre interest due to squid game and other series

How tf is this getting an anime. Not complaining but crazy that a manga that's been over for 10 years and has never had one is getting one

I USED TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THIS......and knowing its from Madhouse makes it all the better

Aug 23, 11:21 AM by OmarGuy

Oh wow, that was...random and long overdue, but cool I guess. I dropped the manga because the main characters were annoying and unlikeable, but the creative and interesting games still made it a somewhat enjoyable read overall. Also can't say no to an adaptation by Madhouse.

@Phlaryx @Annvica

YES PSYREN IS ALSO GETTING AN ANIME! Older titles are making a comeback!

A classic seinen from the 2000s by Madhouse? 10 years after the manga ended and 20 after it began? I wonder why? For the anniversary?
