Yanmar Announces 'Miru' Original Anime Project
Industrial machinery company Yanmar Holdings Co. Ltd. (Yanmar) announced an original anime project titled Miru on Tuesday. The company also launched an official website, revealing the main staff and a key visual (pictured).
Studio Nue's Shigeru Morita (Kore wa Zombie desu ka?, Kuromukuro) is penning the screenplay. Yanmar created and produced the title, with design and marketing company btrax Japan credited for cooperation. The anime is expected to premiere in 2024.
Yanmar will hold a booth for the project at Anime Expo from July 1–4, featuring a giant robot figure, the key visual, and a concept movie directed by YKBX (Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet: The Third Episode). The company will also host a panel on July 3 with btrax chief executive officer Brandon K. Hill, Yanmar Holdings chief business officer Akira Nagaya, and YKBX.
Miru is a development of Yanmar's "Project Socius," which was announced in November 2022. The title investigates the theme of "confrontation and harmony between humans and nature" within the context of a global movement toward a more sustainable society. While navigating challenges and personal growth, the protagonist will strive to preserve the environment required for our survival, while the presence of robots will be depicted alongside their journey. The anime emphasizes the importance of achieving a balance between humanity and the natural world, echoing the global call for sustainable living.

I don't like being preached to about saving the environment that I didn't ruin. But I do like giant robots. I'll give it a try, but it's a one-chance-to-impress-me deal rather than wholehearted interest.

I hope that this ends up amounting to something great when its all said and done, cus I'm kinda intrigued by the synopsis NGL

At first I thought how low has the anime industry sunk for industrial corporations to be needed to make mecha anime, but it sounds more like an echo of what BP pulled when they came up with carbon footprint propaganda. Basically, the synopsis sounds like watermelon bullshit. I'll probably still give it a shot. After all, it's hard for mecha to do worse than Okada Mari Gundam or sodomy Gundam.

More mecha is always appreciated even though it sounds like an ad to protect the environment.

Man, that synopsis sounds like generic corporate spiel about sustainable development.

The female protagonist in the original show? Okay guys, let's bet on whether she's going to be a lesbian or not. As usual I think it's 50/50 lol.

@deg, looks like mecha is still alive. I'll wait for further updates/PVs before deciding to put this in my PTW though.
I would not say that the genre was dying so that we would think about whether it is alive or not. Although the Gundam revival definitely breathed more life into it and brought the genre back from the now popular mecha machines and suits back to big robots.

The character design and mecha remind me of Eureka Seven (which I love), so I'm interested!
