Manga 'Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Idoman to su' Gets TV Anime in 2023

Publisher Kodansha opened an official website for a television anime adaptation of Katarina and Ryousuke Fuji's Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Idoman to su (Shangri-La Frontier) manga on Thursday. The website revealed the main cast, staff, teaser visual (pictured), and project promotional video. The anime is scheduled to premiere in 2023.

Katarina began writing the series as a web novel in the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in May 2017. Fuji began adapting the story into a manga in Weekly Shounen Magazine in July 2020. Kodansha shipped the eighth volume on April 15, while the ninth volume is scheduled to release on July 15.

Kodansha USA licensed the manga digitally in English in November 2020, and released the sixth volume on May 3.

Shangri-La Frontier was nominated at the 46th Kodansha Manga Awards in the Shounen category.

Synopsis
Second year high school student Rakurou Hizutome is interested in one thing only: finding "shitty games" and beating the crap out of them. His gaming skills are second to none, and no game is too bad for him to enjoy. So when he's introduced to the new VR game Shangri-La Frontier, he does what he does best—min-maxes and skips the prologue to jump straight into the action. But can even an expert gamer like Rakurou discover all the secrets that Shangri-La Frontier hides...? (Source: Kodansha USA)

From the PV alone, that sakuga is miles better than most seasonal shows. The dynamic camera is also hot asf. Unique background and lighting. Big, 2D monsters...

Was highkey about to lookover this one due to the ridiculous char design, but easily one of the most anticipated of 2023 now!

HOLY FUCK THE BIRD HEAD AVATAR PLAYING VRMMORPG IS GETTING AN ANIME ADAPTATION?? LETS FUCKING GOOOOO, and no this is not inferior to Solo Leveling at all from what I've read, this thing had more depth and engagement than that despite the generic looking setup.

Ive heard a good amount of good things about this

I liked the works that the director, animation director and scriptwriter worked on and both of those series look good visually (Which going by the KV and PV here, it seems like this will too), so I'm optimistic about this

Hmm, people were indeed right that this would get an adaptation. Now I wonder how much potential this has to become a hyped shonen anime. Also, I understood correctly, this is a rare example of a web novel that was adapted into a manga instead of LN? How often does this happen?
